What size round bar is that and what length do you start with? Please and thank you
I'd like to know, as well. It looks like the bar might be 1/4" or 6mm, but I am curious on the length.
Have not been there since childhood. Good memories of my dad. Thanks for posting.
Is there any courses to learn traditional black Smith?
Wonderful
Thank you so much! I will be using this recipe soon. I love how you use the muffin liners!
That hammer hitting the metal makes such a satisfying noise.
I love the look so much i just wish you used slot head screws or even nails that are bent over in back the modern yellow screws just look off
Other then the screws its looks awesome
Mine are not growing! I have them in a sprouting jar, with water covering about a quarter of an inch of the seeds.
100% I was born in the wrong era. Love the setup, modern smithing is enjoyable, but would love that old time feel.
What do you recommend to as far as maintenance and use for the oiled charcuterie board? Should it oil be reapplied every so often? Should users limit what they place on the board to prevent staining?
Great question! For cleanup, we recommend washing with a cloth and dish soap then promptly drying. The mineral oil and beeswax-based finish we used in this video will require periodic reapplication to ensure the surface is protected. Another great option that we started using more recently is Osmo Top Oil. The manufacturer indicates that it is safe for food-surface contact and forms a hard wax coating, so is less prone to washing off like mineral oil. Worth considering and makes a beautiful finish!
This type of videos are art, love the way you live brother 🤘
I appreciate it! Thanks for the thoughtful comment. Glad you’re here.

Thanks so much! Hope to get another video out soon! Take care ⚒️ 😊
You need strong hands for hand made knives 👍
Lol Indeed! 😊 Thanks so much for watching!
Never knew what the white pouder was. What's the use?
Thanks for the question! The powder is anhydrous borax, which is used as a flux. Fluxes help to prevent the build up of scale on the surfaces to be welded 🔥
@@BacktoBasicsSimpleLiving I see, what's the scale that comes off when hammering?, Impurities?
Love it! You are a fine craftsman sir and nice vid editing! As Tyree from Mad real world would say "Keep doin' what you're doin'"
Thanks for the thoughtful comment! “I am one with the universe…I am one with the universe…no I am not!”
I never realize you could just beat a handle into it?? That's rad. I always see people start with a knife shaped piece first.
Sure can! This is our preferred process for forging knives 🔪 🔥 Thanks for watching!
Looks good, glad to see a new video. That last blade looks amazing
Thanks buddy! I’ll bring it along on our next camping trip
Very nice work big fan of the design. Can't wait to see more videos soon my friend. Keep up the great craftsmanship and hard work my friend. Forge On. Fab On. Weld On. Keep forge lit. Keep Making. God bless.

What tipe borex
Sorry for the delay. Anhydrous borax! BUT since shooting this video, we’ve started using Iron Mountain flux and now swear by it.
@@BacktoBasicsSimpleLiving for you which one is best for you
Loved the feel of this video, the fire, the scanning of the hanging tools, you working along with a fellow blacksmither. Very good!

best way to survive and keep yourself warm , crafting tools and weapons ,it will be a real challenge 😀
Very true! The blacksmith shop would definitely be the place to be 🔥
@@BacktoBasicsSimpleLiving we had a house inside forest once, but i didnt have chance to build a blacksmith, but i build an open forge with anvil from body builders iron weight, bought an old hand crank blower from flea market renewed it and crafted 3 knives, tried to learn basic alone,i still remember first day of hammering pain inside my palm.
You need a nail header tool
So amazing and meditative to watch. I didn't realize how many steps were involved in the process, great job!
Thanks so much 🙏 Indeed! Especially the epoxy steps take many days of patience, but worth it!
That was so interesting to watch how you make that magic happen to come up with the beautiful finished product. I love your woodworking shop. Video editing and all - very well done!
Thank you so much! 😊 Our shop is really taking shape now, and so much fun to work in during the winter. We’re enjoying following your winter adventures too on your channel! @HikingWithKathleen
