Extraordinary performance to disentangle the 2 and 7 in block 2. I am so ashamed of being too simple-minded to do such acrobatics. I rather put the 3 as I learned to do the first time I played sudoku in r3c5 and the rest simply followed. Greatness will always escape me :)

Ah, I couldn't make sense of the comment I made when having a look at this video. I then looked at my solution again re a supposed UR, and realised it wasn't the same sudoku but the NYT Medium!

It is a lot easier to follow what the landscape is when pencil marks are used.

Minute 16 The 8 in r1c2 is obvious. Then of course the 13 in r1c9 that forms a pair with r1c3. Then, a glance below for the 79 in row 9 at col 2 and 9. Easy finish.

Not too difficult. 12 mins. notation free.

At 17:30, the 8 was fairly obvious at R1C2. Then you had to see the 1,3 pair in Row 1 at Cols 2 and 9. That placed the 5 at R3C7. Fairly easy after that.

At 6:00 the first thing was to place the single 5 at C1R5. That allowed several placements. After that you would be able to identify 2,5 and 8,9 pairs in Block 8, but you were nowhere near that when you gave up, so it would be very hard to explain. This was a very satisfying puzzle to finish without notations. Not as satisfying as yesterday, but still very satisfying.

Today's (16th Oct.) one was a doddle, 8 minutes NF. With commentary, how about 12 to 15 minutes, Zen?

Actually, I didn't find it too bad since I solved it fairly easily with the strategic use of cell notation. Mostly bi-value, but a triple emerged in C6 if I remember correctly, and I found a coinciding pir somewhere later on. Not timed, since I was writing things in while watching Pointless.

Hard work today, I must say. So much so I have difficulty even remembering how I did it ! I seem to remember that the combination of the triple along row 3, and the triple at the top of column 1 forcing the 1 in r9c1 did it. Ouf ! Not a walk in the park.

I started with pencil marks and it still took me 25 minutes to solve.

@25:00 1. There's a 2,4,7 triple in Row 3 at Cols 3,5,7, so R3C1 can be 6 or 9. 2. There is a 3,5,7 triple in Row 4 at Cols 6,7,and 8, so R4C1 can only be 8 or 9. 3. R1C1 can only be 6 or 8, so there is a 6,8,9 triple in Col 1 at Rows 1, 3, and 4, which leaves a 1,7 pair in Col 1 at Rows 5 and 9. Puzzle Solved!

Funny how the difficulty rating can vary so. Yes, a straight forward one today with lots of pairs. I actually wrote them in as I went.

NYT continues its recent trend of easy and relaxing puzzles for the week-end. As at minute 17 when you finally get the 1 and 8 disambiguated in row 5, if you just care too look around, you have sudoku 101 locked-in digits to finish block 6 and from there the rest of the central horizontal part of the grid and from there all of the puzzle. 11minutes notation free. Here is my path from that point: 8 in 69 (row 6, col 9) - 6 in 49 - 4 in 47 - 7 in 44 - 1 in 45 - 5 in 43 - 2 in 41 - 5 in 12 - 2 in 13 - 3 in 11 - 1 in 22 and in 16 - 6 in 26, 31,. 62 and 94 1 in 97 - 9 in 87 - 3 in 77 - and from there, it gets even easier.

Much easier than EASY. 7 mins.

Notation free. Noticed the X Wing of 5s in rows 1 and 9 at columns 2 and 8, with the 5s in row 9 being a part of a 15 pair.

I did my own experiment with this sudoku and succeeded but took too long time.However pleased. OK

As at 14m20s after placing the 2 in r8c9 due to a 2 pointing from row 7 in block 7, I was sure you would go and place the last 2 in r9c5. Why ? Because blocks 2 and 5 above being full, your "probabilities" of getting the exact location of the 2 were 100%. Just making this comment to help those who may be interested to understand the inherent mechanics and logic of the game.

There was a 249 triple in column 5 in the rows other than 1 and 3, which confirmed the 5 in row 3 and the 7 in row 1. Quick puzzle to do notation free.
