Our Sailing Voyage
United States
Приєднався 3 лип 2016
Our Sailing Voyage, formerly known as The Amazing Ocean, is all about ocean adventures. My name is Rich and I'm a 30 year PADI professional and have loved exploring our aquatic world since I was old enough to don a mask, fins, and snorkel. What I'd like to do is pass on some of this passion to you by sharing with you some of my adventures. Digital cameras, UA-cam, and other online platforms now it make is possible, as never before, to show everyone the mystery and magic of our underwater world.
In 2021, we invested in a Lagoon catamaran that will be our mobile home and platform for exploring far from home. Our first major voyage will take us to the Bahamas for a season of diving in 2023. In the meantime, we'll be posting about our boat projects, mid-atlantic sailing adventures, and when we have the opportunity to strap on a tank and go for a dive.
Thank you for along for the ride!

Charleston, SC to Isle of Hope, GA (Hurricane Nicole and more) | SV Voyager Journey South Ep 3
We start off the 4th leg of our trip wrapping up the issues with our injury at sea detailed in the previous episode. We spend a few days before Amy and I shove off. We had planned to be in Florida for our daughter's visit, but with various delays it wasn't going to be possible. So we make the decision to make for Isle of Hope and meet her there. Then Hurricane Nicole throws a wrench in the works and we've got the weirdest 24 period of our cruising lives.
Join us for this shorter video detailing what happened and then on to the final leg 5 to Port Canaveral and the end of the fall 2022 series.

SV Voyager is a Lagoon 420 catamaran and our home away from home. We've spent the past two summers learning and improving our boat. We've sailed the waters of the Chesapeake extensively and are now up for the challenge of sailing back to Florida and over to the Bahamas. We're learning to be full-time liveaboards by living, working, and relaxing on the sea. Thank for following our sailing journey!

We're at it in the yard - the first week. Hull cleaning, dinghy repair, assessing projects.
Переглядів 436 місяців тому
We've already drilled out, chamfered, and filled the three hull penetrations that were causing us so much distress over the past year or so. We used West System Six10 and it did a nice job filling the holes clear through. While I was working on that project, Amy got started on acid washing the hull. We're pretty happy with the results as you'll see. We also got the dinghy leak cleaned up and re...
Rehabbing a Quick Nautic B3 Marine Water Heater
Переглядів 4377 місяців тому
In this video I recap overhauling our Nautic Water Boiler. It had been leaking around some of the fittings since we bought the boat, but when the electrical heating went out last year it was time to rehab. We discovered the heating element was done, so we bought a new one, replaced some other key components, tested it, and reassembled. Now, it's ready to go back into the boat. I hope this video...
Thanks for the Mess!

Pungo River (MM 127) to Southport, NC and offshore to Charleston, SC | SV Voyager Journey South Ep 3
Переглядів 1118 місяців тому
As we continue our journey south we deal with an illness and visit New Bern, NC. We push south to Morehead City and then get jammed up by the broken Figure Eight Bridge and lose a couple of days. Freed up with move offshore to get those days back and suffer a major medical emergency during the night offshore. We push hard to Charleston Harbor Marina where we get great help getting the boat secu...
Upper ICW from Great Bridge, VA (MM 12) to Pungo River (MM 127) | SV Voyager Journey South Ep. 2

After our overnight sail down the length of the Chesapeake, we begin our southbound journey to Florida and the Bahamas on the Intercoastal Waterway. We've got a some terrific weather and even managed a sporty downwind run on the Albemarle Sound. At the end of Alligator/Pungo River Canal we face the notorious Wilkerson Bridge and help another boat with some strategies to squeeze under. With inch...

You tube sailing moneymakers you mean?? Bikini and snorkel sailing .
keep the good work captain
There's a lot of it lols!
nice!
Thanks Gary! I'll probably seek some advice on a couple of the projects.
Let the games begin 😜 hope all your projects go well for you
Got lows in the 30s so we're trying out the Honda portable and a ceramic space heater. So far so good! Should be on move tomorrow!
This location looks familiar
I have been looking to do this on our 420. Thanks for the video!
Let me know of you have any questions!
👍
Thanks Gary!
Just ordered mine. Can’t wait for it to get here.
thanks a lot stinky birds!
the boys were back in town...
L birds
looks like a bad Oman
like bananas on boats....egads!
Merry Christmas Rich.
Merry Christmas to you and the family. Hope you all have a wonderful season!
Well done nice video! Have a Merry Christmas Gary and Ena SV Divergent
Happy holidays you two and all the best for a great 2024. I promise I'll have this whole trip done by 2026 lols!!!
Thank you, enjoyed the video!
Congratulations on finding your leak. It looks to me like that was a thru hull with a grate strainer and they use 4 screws to locate them from the outside. Looks like they may have drilled through on that screw.
Thanks Gary! It's obviously not the permanent fix, but boy what a weight off the shoulders. I'm going to try and get over to the boat this week and give it all a thorough look-over! But fingers crossed...I think I got it.
Got the first overnight out of the way 👍 they get less stressful but never stress free😜Ena and I do three hour shifts starting at 8:00 pm usually when we do am overnight or multi overnights
Thanks for the comment Gary! It's definitely a new experience. Each of us had our own fears and apprehensions to overcome, but with no sail changes, very straightforward navigation, it made the ideal passage for a first-timer. With really little risk, we were able to wrestle with the disorientation, shifts and sleep, and the really cool and unusual experience of watching it go from total dark to daylight underway!
Hey just wanted to say hello! Hope all is well with you guys we are hauled out in the sea of Cortez and are now in the Pacific Northwest for a few months. Best wishes Gary and Ena SVDivergent
Hi Gary, was just thinking about you guys and wonder where you were at in the journey!
Now that beautiful cat is out doing some Adventures. Sailing royalty indeed.. but they're too down-to-earth to want to think of it that way.
I actually heard it's for sale in Charleston now. Not sure what the story was after they left our marina.
Awesome.
What are those things???
Little guys called "Copepods" Check out en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Copepod
Waccamaw is great
Wqppo Cut currents are tough!
Looks awesome! Glad you’ve got some good weather for all those projects! Keep us posted!
Thanks Mel! Hope you're doing well and off to an terrific 2023!!
Mom! Phineas and Ferb are making a title sequence! LOL! Great job. Did you use a drone for some if that!? Leveled up!
Oh man, the memories of the kids watching that show....actually I think my wife and i watched it more... lols
So true.... love watching them.
Old Friend Since I have zero cruising experience I can only offer racing advice. 1. Sail fast, take chances. 2. Always gybe at top speed, the boat is more stable and there is less load in the main. 3. If the wind is behind beam regardless of the conditions, pop the chute and send it. There is never a discussion on whether to set or not. It’s a law as strong as gravity. Wait, your on a multihull, in that case never let the wind go behind beam but still pop the a-sim and send it.(That’s from my multihull racing days). 4. Don’t listen a damn thing I say. You post the videos and I will watch them. If I were to buy a cruising boat your boat would at the top of the list. A.J.
It's a great platform to watch a race from ;) hoping to some day see some good ones...like Sydney Hobart...or the AC. Just have to keep my eyes and ears open as we work our around.

Officially volunteering to crew!
Very kind Jeri, I'm glad we put off a decent vibe :)
Got for it!
Sooooo lucky! Wonder if they have already flown to Thailand? Would be so awesome to meet them.
Quite possibly. The boat has been quiet for a few weeks, so they've either gone somewhere or put themselves up in a Air BnB. I do have to say they attract a lot of attention. I can appreciate why they like their privacy. The "drive by's" by dinghy and boat have even become a bit bothersome for us. It is pretty neat. We came walking down the dock.... "Oh there's an Outremer docked beside us...how interesting. Wait....OMG what? What are the chances...?"
@@oursailingvoyage I think they went to Vietnam
So cool I hope to see the boat in Annapolis
Yeah, they said they're prepping it here for the show. It's got some miles on it for sure, but I'm sure it will be charter ready in a month.
I hope you didn’t get paid to lie because am going to purchase one right now
Nope! I offered to try it report on it. They sent me one in the mail. No payment other than comping me the mask.
omg
Thanks for taking the time to film this, it is very helpful
I couldn't find one when I needed it. so voila! Glad it helped!!
What a great trip!
It was really quite an adventure. Overwhelming in some ways, but immensely rewarding. Thanks for the comment!
Great job Rich!
Thank you! Super glad you enjoyed it!
Awesome Rich.
Thank you for taking the time to watch!
Do you think a chrome ball valve will decay faster with saltwater flush heads?
I hope so! If it's real chrome moly, it should be ideal: "With such a high temperature tensile strength and corrosion resistance, CrMo is also found to be effective in salt-water applications"
Who is your contact at lagoon
Alison, went through the Beneteau parts folks in North Carolina: BENETEAU AMERICA, INC. 1313 HIGHWAY 76 WEST MARION, SC 29571 TEL: (843) 629 5320 FAX: (843) 629 5329
Omg do you have the brand name of that tank. Have one leaking but from the access plate. Need to order from ftl
Hi Alison, I'm not quite sure who manufacturers the tank, but here's the order information: 200080 TANK WASTE 80L ROTO.(CE)IDYLLE
And in the ocean reef I run a fully independent pony with a shut off and a northern octo 2 is 1 1 is none
Idk I didn't care for it I switched to a ocean reef predator on there commercial line
So, how did it work💁♂️
Posting the "splash" video right now actually!
I think than the purpose of those mask is to be able to speak clearly underwater. It seem than it's not the case. xD
thats why you use Buddy Phone® Communications attachment. the masks purpose is not for communication without one of these devices.
How is the frog with this?
At last, a bearded diver saying that the leakage was minimal. Gives us bearded guys hope.
so true bestie
Keep a net bag stashed in your BCD. When you're on the surface, stuff it in the bag and clip it to your BCD. Also, use your main regulator as your octopus and keep your regular mask stashed in your BCD in an attached pouch as well.
Thanks Mark! Great idea!
