expand your comfort zone more naturally

Hey friends! In this video, I discuss the popular notion of pushing ourselves out of our comfort zones to foster personal growth, especially within fitness circles. While discomfort can drive adaptation and growth, it may only be part of the equation. I discuss "experiential introspection" and illustrate it with the parable of the Stone Cutter's Tale. The story highlights the importance of not ...

why authenticity matters more than ever
Переглядів 10 тис.8 місяців тому
Here are some thoughts on balancing self-improvement with authenticity! There are 2 perspectives I guess 1.) Don't be yourself. Be better. 2.) Be yourself, but explore new things to learn what "yourself" means. Ultimately, I guess these are roads that lead to similar destinations. Have a wonderful day!

    I wish people were more respectful of retail/restaurant employees. But I think the belief that "the customer is always right" has caused some people to think that they have total power as a customer and they can be disrespectful of the business and its employees. It's a shame.

      My goal is to leave people feeling a little happier. Sometimes it is hard and sometimes I don't succeed, but I think that it can be meaningful to simply genuinely acknowledge that the other person is a human being and really see them (don't treat them like a machine or servant) and give them a genuine thank you and smile and wishes for a good day.

    9:03 - "People deserve respect just for being humans." I think this kind of hypothetical argument against what you're talking about is based mostly just on English (and many other languages certainly) having the word respect used for both esteeming somebody for e.g. experience and also for acknowledging them as a fellow human; brings to mind the way some (typically not very nice) people say "If you won't respect me [as an authority], I won't respect you [as a person]" conflating two meanings in one word without realising it. Linguistics aside, as always, great video!

    I would recomend to learn how to talk or some similar communication skill, if someone wants more respect in life. Not to impress others, it helps develope the thinking skills that are needed for self reflection. Self reflection can help to find out what kind of respect you need in your life. Is there a lack of respect you're suffering from?: Is your voice not been heard? Are people taking you for granted? Or do you want more than average?: Do you want to be someone looked up to? Do you respect yourself ( mentaly and physicaly)? I can not recomend trying to improve your self respect by geting respect from others. Who are the persons you want respect from? Is it a family member or a spouse? Get some help if needed, the closer the persons the harder it usally is in my experience. Are they friends or coworkers? Are you pulling your weight?, are you setting boundrys? (Hard work is often overlooked) Figure out what kind of person do you want to be. Why are you admiring the people you are admiring? Make a list and take that to an abstract level, it will lead you to your core values. Then set small steps and be aware it takes practise just like fitness. Always remeber that beeing medium good means that there are a lot of people who are worse. And that is already an acivement. (Sorry for my bad english)

    Peoole seem to sometimes put too much weight on respecting calls to authority even when that's totally irrational. Proof of work is a more trustworthy metric. It takes a while to build this solid foundation.

    Really helps with anxiety. When you KNOW you can be doing more/taking more risks/etc, but are held back, it causes a lot of shame. It's so motivating to know that it's okay to not have to go against the grain 24/7 and you can take your time to find out who you are and what you want. Btw, you are one of my favorite people, Hampton ❤

    i loved the tale and it's a very important lesson, looking forward to your book mate. i've been following your fitness guide since 2022 and you are the one who taught me how to work out with calisthenics. and you're one of the few who remain true to their values and authenticity. other creators nowdays change their values just to optimise for monetising their audience, but you're different

    I loved listening to your thinking about how you want to evolve in your life, where you want to aim. Your feelings about it. That’s so inspiring! A book about mindset and fitness is a good idea ! What touches me is the fact you genuinely want to help people , and are looking for this great way to do so.

    Awww thank you Hampton ! I love your story telling ! That was so interesting ! I like trying new things, but sometimes I feel I don’t have the energy or motivation, being too caught up with my life and routine (even running away from what I should do, because lack of energy inside me). I will think about your tale of the stone cutter, growing through experiencing life and trying new things. Thank you !

    Loved listening to this! It's always so great to hear someone talk about their deep sense of what they want to do or feel like they're meant to do like this, I find it enrapturing. Also appreciate the rawness of the recording and unscriptedness, it absolutely makes a difference! I'd 100% support you in doing whatever you want to do even if it's not related to fitness at all :) It sounds like a fiction book could also achieve what you want albeit in a less literal way, but potentially it could be more effective... Either way can't wait to see it!

    I think you already have made a lasting contribution by the video's that you make and what you share in them. I know that it has an impact on who I am and how I interact with people and how I try to reach and motivate others. Personally, no matter what you choose in the end , I will read it to know you better. Every creative work even scientific text has bits and pieces of the artist in it. With your humbleness, any content that you create will be seen as an option rather than a rule, so I don't think people are likely to hate you for it. Best of luck with figuring out where you want to take this and investing your energy in it. Loads of format options to choose from. Thank you for all your work!

    I listened to an audiobook about stoicism years ago. It was an easy read and the general gist has stayed with me ever since. I don't remember the specific content, but it helped change how I think about stuff on a deep level. A book about exercise, fitness and staying or getting healthy, like that would be cool. Your videos are already the nearest thing to that that I've seen so far.

  • @SariaGrace

    Whatever you choose to create will be unique. Only you can create it because it’s coming from you. Even if you talk about concepts that everyone knows about, or other have already created, the words and way you choose to describe it and the way you present the information is what will make people connect and actually take it in. This is what makes you feel like something is new. When you connect to it. Think of how much people love your fitness channel, when so many others also show ways to work out. It’s because people like the way YOU talk about things. I also think you should consider creating something just for yourself so you have full creative freedom, instead of getting caught up in the goal of wanting something to be successful or great. It sounds like what you’re actually craving is the process of creating and feeling freedom in that. Don’t confuse that with the creation that is the result. That said, I’d love to read a book of yours that focuses on the mental side of fitness, and by that I mean learning self awareness, learning how to work out even when you don’t feel like it, stay consistent etc. And would love to read about how you stay true to yourself and listen to your own voice in this world as I get the sense you’re great at that! Thanks for all that you do :)

      Thank you for your wonderful thoughts! I do want to create something for myself, but I think a big part of it is wanting to serve and help others. It's just a preference if I'm going to spend lots of time on it. Agreed that the process itself can be worth it though! I really appreciate the ideas and thoughts too. I'd love to do a book on any of those things.

    I'd like a book where it's just you, no scientific bs or interviews with others. With all your videos I'll say you have more than enough to give, especially mentally-wise. And this backing something up with science trend is not something I like.

    • @iridium771
      @iridium771 3 місяці тому

      I feel backing statements with science is pretty important, especially if people are going to take them as advice as a way to change their life, and especially now that there's a lot of misinformation going around. You can see it as verifying and making sure the conclusions you found actually make sense and worked elsewhere as well. Although admittedly, it tends to make for a less fluid experience, whether in a book or video, and having discussions and forming opinions without throwing papers at each other has merits as well.

  • @iridium771
    @iridium771 3 місяці тому

    I really appreciate these deeper, more contemplative talks and I'm glad you chose to share these thoughts. I find this kind of content is very valuable and that there's very little of it to be found among all the high-paced content fighting for our attention. I'll be there for the next one, whenever it happens.
