    Didn't see anything about installing the induction hob.......... I presently have a 4.1kw double oven and a basic ceramic hob connected by one 6mm cable to isolator switch, CCU and the fusebox. Works fine and recently had electrics checked and a new fusebox fitted. Looking to install a 7kw induction hob so will that run off the present set up or will it need a separate 6mm supply. Since having central heating installed, here's a now an unused 8kw shower connection etc at the board.

      Thank you for your comment. BS7671 actually doesn't specify a depth for buried cables, but recommends a depth of at least 450mm. The depth of this cable actually exceeds 600mm. Circuit diagrams as part of the certification and warnings were provided to the client at the end of the project.

    Pulling the fuse might be dangerous but some of the underground cabling is already 60 years old and the armour is rusted away. The armour is also the earth ? I know someone who knocked a house down, rolled up the powerhead and builtva new house, rolled the old powerhead back into possition ? How about that ? The stuff builders do for money and 3 wives on the go.

    One thing is important to know is that safe isolation? Does not give you the right to Tampa equipment that isn’t yours. It’s simply means if you can’t safely isolate you can’t work as I see some people believing it means they can take any measure necessary to isolate which you cannot.

    Hi, the EV circuit requires a dedicated RCD, the EV itself can potentially leak upto the 6mA DC limit of a type A RCD, when the RCD is shared as in the split load board , any equipment on the other RCD protected circuits could also leak DC, causing a higher accumulated value than the tolerated 6mA. Which in turn could prevent the RCD from functioning as designed. The best option when a switched neutral RCBO cant be used in an existing system, is to split the tails and use a dedicated "EV' Board.

    • @vwes
      @vwes 2 місяці тому

      I do agree, the best option is for an EV Charger to have a dedicated RCD, however it is perfectly acceptable under the current regs to have an EV Charger on a split load board. If it wasn't then very few consumer units currently installed would be useable for an EV Charger making installations way to expensive, which is why its not mandated in the current regs.

    If its a looped supply is it wired in a ring or radial?

    • @vwes
      @vwes 2 місяці тому

      When I refer to a looped supply, it's the incoming supply from the DNO, so its neither ring or radial. For example in a line of terraced houses, the first house will connected to the main supply cable in the road, the next house will be connected to the first house and so on. I've never seen this arrangement, but it does exist.

    Im in the usa and ive never heard of a looped supply. Everything is so different there. We just have two hots coming in at 120 each, a neutral and ground. So is it basically a parallel 240v line? Each house is a node in one line. As far as i on w we dont do that in the usa.

    As someone from the US, what makes an EVSE/EV Charger different than other loads on the electrical system? We don't typically have central RCD (or GFCI) protection here, but EVSE devices will have GFCI built-in. Many loads don't have any sort of ground fault protection to begin with.

    • @vwes
      @vwes 3 місяці тому

      Probably the biggest difference is the duration. Most other loads like showers, cookers and so on, only have a full load for a few minutes (maybe 15-20 minutes tops for showers). An EV Charger however could be using a full load for several hours, exposing itself to a much higher risk of a fault occuring while it's on, as well as thermal effects being larger on devices such as MCB's, which is why it's not recommended to run an EV charger at the same load as the MCB attached to it as it could trip due to heating.

    • @vwes

      Main reason for the junction box is there is a possibility the client wants lighting as part of the landscaping, so its just futureproofing. As for the cable, yes i could have used 1.5, but i had enough 2.5 left over from a previous job. And yes probably a valid argument for just using 2 core and just earth via the armour. • @vwes
      @vwes 6 місяців тому

      The 5-core cable used for this matched the existing 5-core cable supplied with the Induction Hob, so it's a 5-core 1.5mm flex cable. Can be either a 3185Y or in my case a HO7RNF. If you need to get a longer cable, you will need to match it to the one provided (It should be stamped on it). As for the MCB/RCBO, I was able to use the existing 32A MCB protected by an RCD, so no need to retrofit anything in the board. The Diversity calculations can be found at 05:24
