That Pilot Luke

👋 About Me 👋
I started college in 2021 and originally had my eyes set on becoming a doctor. I quickly realized that wasn't for me, so I started studying business and finance while working sales jobs during the summer. After selling Pest Control and a working a finance related internship, I decided to look into becoming a pilot. After a couple flights I was hooked and decided that making money while flying jets doesn't sound too bad!
I decided to create this channel to document my journey towards becoming an airline pilot, help others on their journey, and provide aviation content in general.

What a fantastic moment there to have with your mother!!!! Great views as well...... also you have a great smile.
Very cool! I’m glad you got to share flying with your mom!
Any word from CFI jobs? I applied and had my interview with ATP but it seems as if it could take a while.
Superb, so specific and so soulful experience between a son and his mother. I also had the privilege of living that unique experience with my own mother in the late 80 s when I was flying. Why did you not film the landing? For me it the most challenging and most beautiful part of a flight to be proud of even if only the pilot knows for himself he made a specially perfect kiss landing or , in a strong crosswind, a perfect low wing or crab or mix of the two approach and landing with first the upwind main, then, the downwind main, then finally, the nose wheel. Congratulations for your hard work and fast developing aviation career. Hi from Belgium Luke, be careful, enjoy each flight, and thumbs up.
It was such a great experience. The camera mount fell off unfortunately prior to the landing and my mom didn't film it so we didn't get any footage of it this time! It definitely is the best part though I'll make sure to get it next time. Thanks for watching!!
That's awesome Luke! I know she is a proud mom!! too cool:)
Preciate it!
Awesome man. Those mountains tho 😍
They're crazy
im planning on joining atp shortly after i receive my associates, your channel has helped me alot in preparing for atp.
@@protikhaque2899 glad it's helped! Thanks for watching!
Love it. Criminal not to include the landing. I imagine you greased it. I did my training in Ohio and we do not get those kind of views, I look forward to the day I fly out west.
@@tinyrichard haha Preciate it man. Unfortunate the camera was no longer sticking to the window and my mom didn't film it lol
@@thatpilotluke Really enjoying your channel, and I think when others find it they will too, and it will grow. I am at about the same spot in my career as you, waiting on my first instructor job, so it is very cool to watch. Keep up the great work!
@@tinyrichard thanks man! Waiting for my first instructor job as well. Hopefully I'll see ya at the airlines!
Fun 🎉
Are you going to be joining one of the cadet programs? Will you be making any future videos on these programs?
I am planning on joining some, haven't gotten too far into that yet but could make a video on it in the future!
congrats!
Thanks Brice!
Congratulations, Luke! I came across your channel while I was doing research for my son who is in high school. He wants to be an airline pilot and I’m trying to figure out the best route for him to go. Could you tell me what the advantage is to going to an ATP flight school as opposed to a four year university? Obviously, I know the cost is much less. But if you are not able to fly with the airlines until age 23 (if I have that correctly) why would someone right out a high school want to do this route?
Thank you Julie! If you want to email me or book a one on one call via the link in my channel description I'd be happy to give more info! Thanks for watching.
Congratulations Brother ! 🙏🏽🤞🏽🔥
Thanks bro I appreciate It!
Nice!
🫡
Congrats Luke! I started my training soon after you so have really appreciated all the insight on your checkrides. Got my commercial ride coming up soon, hopefully joining you with the CFI and II soon after!
Love to hear it. Good luck brother!
Thanks for this and - congrats!!!
Thank you!!
Congratulations Luke. It is a pleasure watching you achieve each milestone; For your next videos, do a day in your life as you plan for your next goals; or show some of the topography of Utah as you fly, maybe you have done that already, I will have to check.
Will do! Thank you for the support!!
Yes sirr!! great Job man!
Preciate it brother!
Congratulations dude. Wishing you a wonderful career 🍾🥳 ✈️
Appreciate it!
Luke, I enjoyed your CFII Video. Can you do one on your CFI checkride? Mine is next week. Thanks!
Preciate it. I believe I posted one a few weeks ago on my CFI initial ride! Good luck!
Hey Luke, I start ATP in 6 weeks and I’m curious if you could make a video about all of the equipment needed for the school, I have the major things like an iPad and headset, but what about smaller things like flashlights, foggles (or hood), kneeboard, etc. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Congrats btw
I'll try to get one of those videos filmed! Thanks for watching
Need your IPAD, headset, flashlight, foggles. Get you a check list from them and that's about everything. Store everything in your Foreflight document in different folders by stage. Be prepared for the program to not be as short as advertised. I just finished and it was 6 months over what claimed, and that is without failures or errors on my part.
Congrats Luke, been following your videos about to start at atp with credit private, wish you the best
Thank you!! Good luck!
Congratulations Brother ! 🤞🏽🙏🏽
Thanks brother!
Luke, I like the glasses. What's the brand/model (the one's you're wearing en-route)? Thanks and great content!
Appreciate it! They are ray bands erika
Congrats Luke! I'm awaiting the Commercial Checkride. Keep it up!
Thank you! Good luck!!
How long would you say it takes from 0 time to study enough to go pass your PAR?
totally depends on how many hours a day you study, if you spend 2 hours a day studying itd probably take a week to a few weeks! Honestly been so long I can't really remember how long it took though
How did you pay bills while going full time?
I fortunately was able to save up after working sales jobs to pay in cash and was able to have free rent living with my in laws while at school.
Congrats Luke!!!
Thank you!!
Congrats man! I’m going to be starting at the Ogden location soon!
Good luck man!!
Congratulations man 🎉
Thank you!!
Big time!

Well done Luke, Congrats!!
Thank you Mohamad!
Congrats!!!!
Appreciate it!!
Can you enroll at 18 how does that work?
I think so!
Thanks for the video man, I’m subscribing and following your journe
Appreciate the support man!!
So did you skip colllege completely? Like no degree?
I did two years and have about 100 credits.. ill be finishing a degree online while flight instructing
Do airlines require a college degree??
Nope
Definitely going to come back to these!
glad they help!
what location did you train out of?
Ogden UT!
Part 2 comment. Your journey is far from over, continue to make content about what you are doing to build more hours, you can post technical things about maneuvers, mechanics of a plane, dealing with different type of students, your healthy meals or exercise, what your study schedule looked like, really anything. Most people are interested in watching you succeed and watching how you do it. Your students will teach you more about yourself. Now get out there and create! 😊
Appreciate the support and ideas Virginia!! Comments like that make me want to create and do more!
You mentioned flying as much as possible. What are you slated to fly at ATP each week? Are you not slated to fly 5 days a week? And if you want to fly more than what is booked in the program, what are they charging you?
well you have a certain amount of hours that are allotted to you for each stage of the program. now i only reccomend trying to fly as much as possible if you're willing to put in the time and study when you're not flying - or else you're probably just wasting your money. you've got to be prepared and study on the ground to be able to progress rapidly while flying. I flew about 3-6 times per week. Depends on weather, plane availability, your instructor, etc. But yeah they want to keep you flying at least 4 times a week.
This is sweet! I’m moving from Provo to Ogden and Starting ATP this summer and super stoked! I did the medical route, summer sales route, and now decided to follow my dream and become an Airline Pilot. Thanks for the videos.
Awesome dude, best of luck on your journey!
Can you go to ATP and go to school at the same time because you said 7 hours a week and you can’t do that and go to school so can you go to school and go to ATP?
If you're asking whether you can do college and ATP, I'd say probably not just because of how intense the program is.
At what age can you start at ATP flight school because I’m thinking about starting but I don’t know if I’m old enough
@@Colingallagher1853 I think 18. It's on their website somewhere
@@Colingallagher1853 but you can start flight training whenever. You can solo at 16 and get your ppl at 17
@@thatpilotluke if you can solo at 16 does that mean you can start working towards it earlier?
@ yup
@@thatpilotlukethank you so much really appreciate it and your my favorite aviation UA-camr and thank you for all the information about going threw flight school really helps keep the good work up
Hey Luke, just found your page and it’s super helpful. Hearing you say the industry is expected to be short on pilots only motivates me even more! I’m curious about location for school - I’m in Los Angeles, there are a few small airports, but I’m wondering if there’s a better location. Any thoughts? Thanks 😊
@@noland250 hey! Glad the channel helps! Honestl socal altogether is good because of weather! Not too much to say other than that. If you want to move to Utah I'm taking students lol!
If I can convince the wife 😂
I am trying to get my intial solo as soon as possible .. any tips i have already written all exams not just flying .. anytips to get solo within under 25 hours cause most students at school are up to 30 hours with no solo
@@WebwiseWarehouseSA honestly I would just say try to learn as much as you can on the ground. Know what the plan is before each flight and study what you'll be doing before you fly. You'll learn a lot faster!
Six pack shirt is legit! Starting ATP Monday. Keep up the good work bro!
