Hilariously, this logic still holds up today. Everything said has been confirmed by merely living amongst them (which i have). Its obviously not a universal truth, but it is a general truth. There are major problems with seeing this or that practice as a higher form of spirituality or a lower form of superstition. To be fair they were given the opportunity to be free if they fought in the Revolutionary War in 1776 and against the Confederate in 1812. But most overwhelmingly declined. They even rejected the indentured right of working for 7 years and buying land before 1690 when those rights became illegal practices. So they aren't entirely wrong even though it sounds derogatory. Its important to understand that especially during the the Revolutionary war, it was the peak of American patriotism and the forefathers knew that when they signed the declaration of independence they were signing their deaths away.
