4 Hours in ~30 seconds 750 frames at 20 second intervals Sony a6300 / 55mm macro Shot through the glass of a bowfront terrarium, so pardon the distortion. Located in my nocturnal reed frog paludarium, so I couldn't keep the lights on any longer. Impressive movement in four hours, though!

DIY Conductive Paint for ElectroformingDIY Conductive Paint for Electroforming
DIY Conductive Paint for Electroforming

Hello! This is my process for making my own conducive paint that I use for my electroformed work. I do not have editing software since I don't do videos very often, so I apologize for the long take, but I needed a way to explain it better. A few things I left out: The paint lasts at least a few months, I've always used it up before it went bad You may want to remix it with the Dremel every coup...

This is my personal electroforming procedure for plating a piece in copper using a 3 Amp TekPower rectifier. I am not an expert, this is just what works for me. I put this together for a group of electroforming artists that may be curious about this specific procedure, so if it seems I've left a lot out, that's why. If it's well received, I'll consider doing actual "How-to" videos and tutorials...

I am on my 2nd time trying this. Thank you for the video. Would you leave the piece over night or do you need to constantly be around to check on it?

I need to know how to make the eletroforming solution, but I live in Brazil, and i dont know how to get a brightner product about here. That product you use in usa is very expensive. I need to find something to replace it

OMG, THANK YOU SO MUCH for this video! I'm gonna subscribe and see what else I can learn from you. I actually found you searching for how to switch my two rectifiers (one is a tekpower, the other an eventek) from C.V. to C.C., but I didn't see that in this video unfortunately, but I'm going to keep searching. Do you happen to offer any individual help by chance? I'm not asking for you to help for free, but the way you're teaching in this video has actually been even more helpful than the "Electroform This!" group I joined on Facebook, which is a really amazing group, but sometimes people get too frustrated when newbies ask too many questions! :-( I've actually been electroforming for about 2 years, but have NEVER been able to dial in the power. It never takes me less than a week to coat a piece, but recently I have been having issues with pieces coating way too thick slowly. Which is driving me nuts because members in the group are the ones that told me to turn my power up more. I REALLY, REALLY need to figure out my power problem. Even though I've been electroforming a couple years now, I feel like I have absolutely no idea when it comes to the power. 😢 If you happen to know of any other resources I can access, I'd really appreciate it if you'd share with the community. Thanks again!

I tried mixing the powdered graphite with matte mod podge like Jason Welsh recommended in a video, and it did not work. :( Have you tried this, and did it work for you if so? I do have some black acrylic paint, so I'll make a new batch. But meanwhile I have 3 huge crystals coated with the mix I made, and not sure if I can just paint over top of that, because it wouldn't be easy to remove it.

For 3D prints, I also have this idea of using and acetone or dichloromethane (if my PLA doesn't smooth with 99% IPA) as the solvent with graphite so basically the graphite solvent paint suspension (have to mix well before applying) literally just kind of melts/dissolves into the surface so might bind better. Jason Welsh I'm thinking might be doing that in one of his videos.... acetone I think with graphite. Then once drys, just steel wool or brush or buff off. My guess is dichloromethane might be better for PLA. Acetone for ABS reads like.

Nice, you have a plating video as well! Farm stuff too, I so haven't done any farm stuff videos.... seems like with food... I don't share that so much. Anyways... I just received my 0-30V 0-10A CV CV SMPS that I plan to use for electroplating and also for my lab test equipment repair projects and I guess for powering other repair or build projects. I'm mainly looking to replate old parts from tools (sewing machines at this time) and plate 3D printed parts. I was also wanting to plate 3D prints for antennas and other electronics parts designs. Thanks for sharing!

Neat, thanks for sharing. Wondering what at the Dollar Tree is going to be purchased next to experiment with... black acrylic paint if I don't find any around here in that art supply box from middle school that I think is still somewhere around here. Was wondering about using epoxy thinned a little to paint on the surface and then just dusting and then maybe a little more slightly aggressively painting on the pure graphite? I'll have to see what lubricant of the graphite I have around... though will budget for a bag/bottle of next month. Seems I bought a little bottle for foundry work also, to make graphite crucibles or something since was wanting to do some lost PLA casts for parts. I'm going to try to copper and then nickel plate some 3D printed parts for a sewing machine. I also want to replate some parts as well to restore that were rusted really bad.

The black acrylic paint has carbon black which is going to be more conductive than any of the ingredients in white.

My rectifier has been doing this weird thing and I can’t find any explanation for it or how to fix it anywhere. I set everything up, both my amps are on a number I like. Then randomly my voltage will go super high. I don’t touch the knobs or mess with them at all, it just happens. I can’t get it to stop. What does this mean? How should I fix it?

Hello all. Just wanted to make a suggestion. If you mix the graphite with acetone first then mix it with the paint it will mix up easily without power tools.

great info, thank you! I'm new to this, but fwiw I've found that a cotter pin stuck in a dremel is a great way to make a stirrer that won't bend like wire, you can find them at home depot in the hardware aisle, in the little drawers for special parts.
