Strike the Bell on Celtic Folk Harp
This refers to the bell that would be struck aboard ships to mark the passing of time, which eventually signaled your shift was over.

Lyrics:
Up on the poop deck,
Walking all about,
There stands the second mate,
So sturdy and so stout.
What he is a’thinking,
He don’t know himself.
And we wish that he would hurry up,
And strike, strike the bell
Strike the bell second mate,
And let us go below.
Look well to windward,
You can see its going to blow.
Looking at the glass,
You can see that it fell.
And we wish that you would hurry up,
And strike, strike the bell.
Down on the main deck,
Working on the pumps,
Is the poor larboard watch.
Wishing for their bunk,
Looking out to windward,
You can see a mighty swell.
And we wish that you would hurry up,
And strike, strike the bell.
Down in the wheelhouse,
Old Anderson stands.
Grasping at the helm,
With his frost bitten hands.
Looking cockeyed at the compass,
But the course is clear as, well,
And we wish that you would hurry up,
And strike, strike the bell.
Well, down in his cabin,
Our gallant captain stands.
Looking out the transom,
With a spyglass in his hands.
What he is a-thinking,
We all know very well.
He’s thinking more to shorten sail,
Then striking the bell.

Sheet music for 40 Sea Shanties can be purchased here: a.co/d/0bMVIaS6 Lyrics: Come, all ye young sailormen, listen to me, I'll sing you a song of the fish of the sea. Poor Paddy Works the Railway on Celtic Folk Harp

Not technically a shanty, but this Irish-American song became popular among sailors and was often sung on ships. It was one of the songs mentioned in the first published work to use the word "chanty". Красиво!
Beautifully played. Best wishes from Wales
I was in southern Wales a handful of years ago. Lovely place.
@NEWCommunityHarp glad you liked Wales. I'm in the south east. Did you get to try a Welsh harp while you were here?
Is it bad that I want to learn to play a harp after watching these videos?
Nope. It's super easy if you read music.
Ohhhh me encanta!!!❤🫶🏼
Its like Hand Piano, what is the name of this instrument ?
A harp
@@NEWCommunityHarp Thank you
@@user-gn2xy7ul8f You're welcome
Awsome music as always
I thought this was a musical parody of the hawk thuah girl. Came for memes, stayed for a wonderfully soothing melody. Keep it up!
Fooled by the Welsh.
Great playing as always
I always love your videos. keep doing great
Thanks I plan on it.
Another great song
Вы очень красиво играете❤. Если можно спросить где вы отыскали такой замечательный инструмент и как он называется. Очень хочу научится играть на таком же😅.❤❤
Thank you. This is a small harp that I built. It has nylon strings that are tuned like the white keys of a piano. All the red strings are C, and the black are F.
You’re awsome
Aww. Thanks.
Great playing
Thanks
Beautiful!! Love it ❤
Thanks so much!
Great sound brotha! 🤙
Thanks! My larger harp sounds even better.
Please! I need notes this song!!!!! My song favorite de The Groggy Dogs!!!!! Thanks!!!!❤🎉
Sheet music for the song is for sale here a.co/d/0bMVIaS6 If you have Kindle unlimited I think it's currently on free preview for a while still.
@@NEWCommunityHarp thanks
Water, sky, harp... Sounds like a perfect day
That was a pretty nice day! The other time I recorded out there it was a bit hot and still.
I love the harp
Me too! :)
Que bonito🫶🏼🌹
We used to sing this in school! Was one of my favourites!
Very cool.
❤🎼👌🏼
I was puzzled because the songs are not in the same order as in the book. I always have to pause the video and take a look for the title.
The book is in alphabetical order for ease of finding songs. When assembling the video, I put the songs in an order that I thought musically flowed better for a casual listener. If you'd like I could upload another video where the songs are in alphabetical order to play along with.
That really would be great!
Try this link. It's all the same songs, but in the order the book goes. ua-cam.com/video/CJjtdsDWbx0/v-deo.html
The rolling shutter effect on the lower strings is INSANE! 😀
The image capture speed of the camera must be close enough to the standing frequency of the vibrating string to cause that effect.
that was rather pretty. I liked the tune.
Hi
Hi!
Beautifully played
Thanks!
Oh I love this
anything Cornish?
You know, I don't think I gathered any specific Cornish songs. I'll have to rectify that when I publish my next book of songs from the British Isles. Any good suggestions?
NOOOOOO RECORD THE SEA SHANTY DAMN IT
There's one posted now. I'm uploading 3 a week. Come back and check it out.
this is great. Do you know Allan Stivel ?
I wasn't aware of him until now. I've been listening to British folk rock for years (Steeleye Span, Jethro Tull, Fairport Convention, Fotheringay, Blackbeard's Tea Party, etc). It looks like he's the Breton side. I'll have to dig deeper on him.
I met Mark Harmer once!
@@andyharpist2938 Very cool. I loved watching him arrange Parry's Delight.
Great work!
Great idea! Very positive :)
Thank you!
Great! :D
Ah! This bring back memories! I loved this song when I was younger, and I never would have guessed it would make a beautiful harp song. Thank you for sharing, your playing is lovely!
I find lots of songs sound lovely on harp. I'm working on some sea shantys coming up.
Excellent stuff.
Glad you enjoyed it
Keep going at it. This music is beautiful. Every channel that I’ve said that to and has kept going at it quickly reached 1k subs. Let’s see if you get there likewise.
Thanks. I'm in it for the long haul for sure. Not going anywhere anytime soon!
@@NEWCommunityHarp keep doing beautiful music. It truly is. In a world devoid of beauty (at least in my immediate context it is devoid of beauty) we need all the beautiful things we can get. May your music be that light that shines hope upon the hearts of those who live in darkness, a beacon to head towards and a worthy thing to aspire to emulate (to replicate, to imitate, to do again in similar fashion). Many Blessings.
One of my absolute favorites! Thanks!
Glad you like it!
Beautiful
Thanks! The Welsh have some great songs.
What a wonderful rendition of this Irish folk song!!! Thank you so much!
Thanks!
Simply amazing
Super cool, I found your channel in the UA-cam recommendations. I learned about this music thanks to a cover by Mathieu Sommet (a French UA-camr). Anyway, I love it =) You deserve more subscribers.
Thanks. I just started posting a few months back. It's slowly but surely growing.
Beautiful! ❤
Thanks!
ThLs soives lt. L’m LiiLterate because of confusLng fonts
Yeah, not the best font for a double r, but what can one do?
@@NEWCommunityHarp I wasn’t trying to pick on you. Just the font.
@@FirstnameLastname-rc8yd No offense taken. It is very funny looking with that font! :)
Beautiful tune ❤
Its one of my new favorites.
Can't quite see your levers to see what key this is in...Bflat? Excellent rendition!
I play just about everything in C (or Am). I lead a group of harpists, some who don't have levers. So I tend to transcribe everything so there's no sharps or flats. I've published a few books of lead sheets all in C or Am if you're interested.
nice
This is lovely. I'm glad I've found your channel.❤
Wow! This sounds so lovely! Thats a beautiful tree in the background too. Do you like playing on this suze of harp? This is the size I want to buy ti begin learning harp, never played a full size before. But I have a regualr 16string Lyre Harp already in the Greek Style
This is a very convenient size harp to play and learn on. I play with a group of harpists, and we occasionally play public shows. This size is easy to transport to those events. I've played a larger harp a few times, and they have much more room to play accompaniment with, since there's more strings for the left hand to use. I'd love a bigger harp for keeping at home, but they're expensive. Perhaps one day I'll acquire one. For now, I just need to be a bit creative to fill out my sound.
Saving this for my DND campaign
I have a medieval and a fantasy playlist if you want to check them out. Might be a few more good ones in there.
