This looks like a long process to do, probably easier on a engine that isn't transverse. Did the timing slip or something for the head& piston to get damaged? My dad's Chrysler 300 had the head gasket blow (just under 200k mi) and he wants ME (who doesn't even have a torque wrench) to replace his engine... More than likely I'll send him to a mechanic to do it + it ticks (probably lifters).

You came to my rescue, again! I just had both O2 sensors replaced and that worked out great. Out the door with my friend, a mechanic, cost me $150 for the sensors (both) plus $50 for his time. Good deal. Mine is a 2016 Smart fortwo Passion. I appreciate your help in getting the back off the car as you showed in another video. We noticed the muffler had developed a hole and some noise like you described. A couple of questions, if I may? Your muffler has what looks like a metal shield on it. Is that part of the muffler? Mine has what looks like an insulation blanket wrapped around it. And, it rubs right up against the black plastic fender underneath. It seems okay. It hasn't melted anything. Is it supposed to do that, is there supposed to be a gap between the muffler and the plastic fender? I ask because the car was in an accident and I don't know if they put it all back together correctly. Also, that clamp that connects the muffler to the exhaust manifold? Is that a special Smart clamp or a stock clamp? I have seen those before. I called the dealer. They want $64 for that clamp! I think I can reuse the old one. I found a new replacement muffler - looks just like the original with that wrap-around blanket thing on eBay for $230. That's about the best price I've found. So, I think if I order the new muffler and use the same clamp (or can find a stock clamp as a back up), then I'm "all set." to replace that muffler. For my use, I need the car as quiet as I can get it. Thanks, again, for all your help! You know this car inside & out!

Has anyone here tried the AMSOIL 75W-90 MANUAL TRANSMISSION & TRANSAXLE GEAR LUBE Product code : MTGPK-EA. That is what Amsoil dealer says they sell for this model. It’s not listed as so but it is what they recommend. Just curious and thanks again for these really informative Smart 453 videos! I’m binge watching them all now 😎👍

At what mileage should this belt be changed at?

If torqued properly when installing, do you need to go back and re torque the spark plugs again after some miles have been put on them?

I understand you don't have a lift. Well, and because of that you did so much unnecessary work. It would have been much easier to remove the engine and remove the catalytic converter. Look at the valves. And figure out from which cylinder the antifreeze is pouring. And not remove both heads. You wasted a lot of your time and effort. Learn to repair properly.

Very helpful! These blades are hard to find. I have a 2016 and have been told to use two of the 20" blades. Seems to work. Thanks for reminding me how to do this. It's been a while!
