'24 Concho Sprint - Ross Lap #1
More fun at the Concho sprints. A little clutch issue with it getting hot and not wanting to disengage had me in struggle mode for a minute. I just had to leave it alone and use it "just when necessary". The trail got crowded on several the rocky climbs and took a little "enduro" thinking to avoid any mis steps. Boots on the ground before any rocky climb is a time to keep trucking. This old man started to get a little tuckered and I had to work out a leg cramp a time or two.
Always a good day at Concho.
Thanks TSCEC

A good dose of rain earlier in the week made for very good conditions. A little dust and a little mud with tons of epic dirt made for a good day in TSCEC enduro land. The original factory pump filter on the Rmx was the same white fabric filter. I basically did a google search to find the replacement filters. The aftermarket filters weren't 100% the same but very, very close and fit with no issues. Kawasakis and Suzukis both run this same Keihin fuel pump.

    Hi there i have a cherry bomb in my bike as of right now but i think its doing weird things to it but just from what ive read here is it a good mod? Like i dont want to buy it then have more issues than when i started. The tuning looks straight forward but is it going to cause more flame outs? The bike is stock and on the sheet paper it says with insert so does that mean pea shooter exhaust? Thanks anyways

    • @burstcasino
      @burstcasino 7 місяців тому

      If you have a non restrictive ecu running the cherry bomb I would probably just stick with it. My '17 USA RMX had the ECU with only the restrictive map and not the performance map. The cherry bomb on non locked ecu's allows the bike to use the performance map. The early and non USA ecu's had two maps. Stock plugged up map that was designed to be used with the airbox snorkel, throttle stop, and exhaust muffler reducer(pea shooter) and a performance made for an open airbox and free flowing MX style muffler. Once you remove all those restrictions your bike will need more fuel which the vortex delivers. My '17 USA rmx needed a fuel performance system to not run lean once the restrictions were removed.

    • @Gtdubsterx7
      @Gtdubsterx7 7 місяців тому

      @burstcasino ah right so my system is better? For being stock and uncorked? Because does yours do a low idle then kick to a high idle after a while? Because that's what mine does

    • @burstcasino
      @burstcasino 7 місяців тому

      @@Gtdubsterx7 My USA '17 Rmx needed extra fuel(vortex, wiseco dobeck box, etc) as I had removed the restrictions and it was running hot and lean. The vortex allows for different states of tuning. I wish the vortex had an application to fine tune the ten different maps like the GET ecu. There is a vortex software but it is $$$ and not readily available. I set my idle to about 1900 rpm and it generally stays there after a proper warm up.

    • @Gtdubsterx7
      @Gtdubsterx7 7 місяців тому

      @burstcasino yeah we adjusted the idle to the higher side of the idle rev range but I think that the cherry bomb may be a little bit older so it's not talking to the bike properly because from what I've been told it's not supposed to go from low idle to high idle all the time so I may just need to buy a newer cherry bomb because that bike sat in a guys room since 2016 and bought in start of 2023 so whats that 7 years

    • @burstcasino
      @burstcasino 7 місяців тому

      @@Gtdubsterx7 I think the Cherry bomb dongle is just a resister that triggers the performance map in the ECU. I don't think there is any intelligence in the CB. I remember reading reports of guys making home made Cherry Bombs. If you remove the Cherry Bomb as a short test, you should be able to tell a difference. If it starts to backfire or run hot then reinstall the Cherry Bomb. At least you will know if the dongle is accessing the performance map. good luck

    Swap to stock ecu and see if problem clears up

    • @burstcasino
      @burstcasino 11 місяців тому

      Stock ecu is bad. The stocker has a tune meant for the EPA. Suzuki got fined big time when the RMX came out in 2010 because it had a CARB tune to get a green sticker with a throttle stop, airbox snorkel, and very restrictive muffler, but also had a performance map accessed by adding a dongle. The EPA got pissed and fined Suzuki big time and forced a recall because Suzuki didn't declare this performance map. My stock 2017 ecu was locked off and only has the green sticker tune. You had about 25 hp on a 450. If you pulled these stock restrictions then the engine ran hot and lean. Most rmx riders would buy a Jd Jetting/dobeck piggyback fuel controller to add more fuel to the mix. I ran one of these units for a while till I found a good deal on a vortex ecu.

      The Rmx450 will run like crap and also be too hot and lean if you change the stock exhaust. The problem is that Suzuki and the EPA really hampered the ECU to run really lean. Your bike sounds like it's too lean with popping and stalling. I tried richening the TPS up a little but it really didn't work for my bike. These bikes really need a fuel management upgrade to run right. I'm using the vertex now but have also used a wiseco piggyback system(JT Jetting like fuel box). How often does that RMX flame out like that? Would you buy it again? Thanks

    • @burstcasino
      @burstcasino Рік тому

      I'm not sure I would buy the FMF Ti Powercore again as its more of a MX top end muffler but FMF was clearing out their warehouse.. It doesn't really do the bottom end as well as other exhausts. I've added a magura clutch and vortex ecu and my flameouts aren't as bad as this Wiseco /JD Jetting/ dobeck piggyback system. The cable clutch in this video was kinda hard to find the engagement point. The juice clutch is much better. I probably need to open up the airbox a little to let the engine breathe a little but have held off on that at present. I got the bike cheap with 105 miles on the odo for half of msrp. Its nice to have a decent backup bike to my race bike. My Beta 300rr had a radiator that looked like a banana so I rode my Rmx for this 2 day race. I also use it to take wear and tear off my race bike while play riding and training. This Rmx is slowly turning into a light ADV bike for small dual purpose runs. Atleast that the plan...

      @@RUSTY-A-L I tried that and mine ran hot and had lean popping. Adjusting the Throttle Position Sensor on the Throttle body made my bike run hot and lean. Hi, was the Vortex worth the extra money?

    • @burstcasino
      @burstcasino Рік тому

      I got a new other unit from ebay originally programmed for a kx450. Tokyo Mods reprogrammed for my rmx since the box was the same just needed to be reprogrammed. Seems like I was in it for about $350. I like it better than the Wiseco tuner that's almost identical to the JD Jetting tuner(both made by Dobeck). I needed to bump up the low and mid trim pots on the vertex to reduce some lean popping. The RMX absolutely needs a fuel system as the stocker ecu is just crap. I just wish the vortex was programmable by the user like a Get box. You need a shop with the software and knowledge on how to use it. Vortex seems to be cooling off on support for the ecu. It's still on the bike at present in enduro 1 map.

  • @mxcollin95

    That was really interesting thanks for posting! This may be a dumb question but do you think it would be reasonably possible/feasible to use the RMX450 crank cases and supporting electronics to basically create an RMZ450 that has an electric start and headlight if you wanted it? I know the cams between the RMZ and RMX and a few other things are different but it almost seems like the two bikes are close enough that you could have the best of both worlds if you mixed and matched a few parts!

    • @burstcasino
      @burstcasino Рік тому

      The frame on the RMX is basically a 2009 RMZ with a 2010 swingarm. The Rmx has been accused of being too much motocross bike and not enough off road bike. I'm not too sure about trying to switch parts as the starter and mech really won't work on a Rmz engine. You might get better results with hotter aftermarket cams on the RMX. The milder head and cylinder are similar but different to accommodate the starter system. The stock rmx needs an aftermarket fuel system like a JD or vortex unit to run mx speeds.

      @burstcasino 2 роки тому

      Well... Its kind of a mixed bag. I'm running a FMF pipe with a sparky installed but a lot of the maps are for fully open and loud pipe setup. I tried those maps and they did give more power thru out the spectrum but also introduced some weird flame out issues. I tried the the torque map and it did great in a single track scenario but wasn't a MX map by any means. Less top end but a ton less flame outs. I need some more testing on the map that is for the MX pipe with a sparky or db insert. It seems to work well but I did need to bump up the fuel on the individual low end trim pot as it seemed to run hot. I really need to spend more time with it but in reality I have been fine tuning my 300 2 stroke. I plan on some testing soon as I'm gonna run a Cross Country on the RMX soon. Here's the restricted MX map without tuning the low-med-high pots... ua-cam.com/video/4nDZDcQB_TU/v-deo.html
