Cry of Love performed an acoustic version of "Carnival" during our live broadcast from Shoreline Amphitheater in 1993. I believe they were opening for Lynyrd Skynyrd later that night. Back then, we'd sometimes broadcast with high-performance phone lines back to the station, so this song was actually recorded onto cassette back in the main KOME studio. I've remastered the sound for this posting.
I was saddened to report the news on my Central Coast California morning radio show in February of 2014 that lead singer Kelly Holland had died at the age of only 52. I remember how friendly he was and how he and the band gave this song their all. They were an impressive and talented band. There's no doubt Kelly was an excellent rock/blues vocalist. You can hear another song they performed from one of our live "Breakfast Club" shows, "Bad Thing" here on my channel. That one is from the DAT master recorded at the venue.
We were set up that afternoon in Lucky's Place, the bar near the entrance of Shoreline, named after Bill Graham's character in "Bugsy", Lucky Luciano. Bill Graham designed Shoreline Amphitheatre as a great concert experience for sight and sound. His blueprint would be borrowed for several amphitheaters around the country soon after. We probably had 100 listeners with us there that afternoon.
This song was only broadcast that one time as KOME listeners drove home from their Silicon Valley jobs. I'm so glad to be able to share it with you again.
