In this episode, VFX graduates Sondre Fagerborg and Sebastian Sveen, who attended Kristiania University College in Norway, take you behind the scenes of their ambitious bachelor project, Cryo Odyssey-a fully CG sci-fi short that showcases their mastery of Hollywood-level VFX compositing. Sondre and Sebastian dive into the challenges and creative choices involved in bringing Cryo Odyssey to life, exploring the techniques they learned in their VFX Bachelor course and applied with Nuke to achieve cinematic results. ua-cam.com/video/EGV-ipoBtcQ/v-deo.htmlfeature=shared
Nuke is a powerful, node-based compositing tool used by VFX professionals worldwide. Its flexible workflow allows artists to integrate 3D elements, perform colour correction, and create high-end visual effects with unmatched control and precision, making it the industry standard for Hollywood-level VFX.
In addition to their collaborative work on Cryo Odyssey, each shares insights into their individual university projects. Sondre discusses The Suit, a live-action project enriched with VFX compositing to create stunning visual effects, while Sebastian reflects on The Cannon, another live-action production transformed through high-level VFX compositing. ua-cam.com/video/ePwa_TimiXA/v-deo.htmlfeature=shared
Discover how their university projects not only refined their skills but also prepared them for success in the VFX industry. Their hard work paid off-Sondre and Sebastian both landed their dream VFX compositing jobs right out of university, ready to tackle Hollywood-level projects. If you're a VFX student, a compositing enthusiast, or just curious about the power of visual effects, this deep dive into their journey will inspire and inform you!

100% agree with the statements about NFTs (and memecoin projects). The amount of shittypeople in that space really leaves a sour taste in the mouths of artists that actually try to build a legit project in web3. I'm trying to do it myself in the memecoin space but damn. It can really be discouraging most days with the things people do, or the projects people launch that have 0 fkin use case / inspiration. Especially when they steal the art from other artists and dont even try to make something original themselves.
This is so inspiring❤🔥🔥🔥
Jess is truly beauty with a brain, it's hard not to adore
Maya or Houdini?
Do you mean which software people prefer ?
@@thevfxprocess yeah, if they used Houdini for simulation in their scene.
Hi gas I have seen your very special that how did you do the match moving? Can I get its to tutorial video?
Search for Sondre Fagerborg on UA-cam, He has a full video breaking down his process 😎
@@thevfxprocess Thank you 🙌very much for replying to me. I have already seen the breakdown. But I did not understand it because it is a breakdown video. I do not know what body tracking and match moving is, so if I have to learn it from the beginning, how should I learn it? There are many ways and I have tried it myself, but it is not fitting perfectly,
You basically stole the suit up scene from iron Man 1. Not necessarily a bad thing, but I can't unsee it so it's immersion breaking for a moment.
In the full interview Sondre mentions that Iron Man scene being an inspiration. I guess it worked well. Have you watched the full version? 🙂
Iron man didn't invent that mechanical style, most likely inspired by anime from the 80s-90s. And now this was inspired by the Iron Man scene.
This is very true
wow
Saw this at GIRAF, Wow, What a great, strange, and whimsical adventure.
👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👍👍

Thank You Sir.
Oh wow ! That is so generous . Thankyou for such incredible support !
Good to see someone from blender community starting their own assets ip
Absolutely ! Such an awesome design and ip . Jess rules 🙌
The content is great, really doesn't need the distracting music overlays. When the content is great, "jazzing" it up with random music while your talking detracts more than it adds.
Hey thankyou for the feedback , it’s hugely appreciated and we will try without it moving forward 🙌
@@thevfxprocess Thanks! Again, amazing content!
Thanks! Out of curiosity, do you mean the intros or throughout the episode?
@@thevfxprocess The music happening around 1:20 was most distracting for me personally. I was trying to focus on his words, but I kept hearing things chimes and bells and it was just hard to focus on what he was saying. The music in the rest of the episode is less distracting, but to me it makes it feel like a commercial or like music for an emotional backstory for a biopic, not an informative podcast (which is what I'm here for :) It probably is more noticeable to me since I tend to listen at 2X speed - so it's especially distracting when sped up. Thanks - loving the content!
We're very lucky to have you in the Blender community Jess
We couldn’t agree more !!! Did you see Jess’s talk at Blendercon?? 💪💪💪💪
No way we watched the same podcast after BCON!

@@thevfxprocess Hahaha no way! Niko is one of my closest buddies in blender community!
This was so informative, I'm working on an animated anthology series and I was wondering how much visual description is actually needed in the script to paint a picture- because Lord I thought this is definitely going to be a long read but informative...
Thankyou slim , and wish you all the best with the anthology series , anything we can see ? There may be more information on the audio version of the conversation - available on most platforms like Spotify etc .
@thevfxprocess I was trying to determine which method would be more successful in getting an anthology series produced, I'm not an animator just a writer...

As far as his critique of the industry goes, which by the way is so refreshing to hear someone speak about it so matter-of-factly, I I get hopeful when I see someone like him who is an artist himself but also the Director, he is someone who can really be in the corner of the artists at the negotiating table.
Absolutely !!! Great input to the topic and couldn’t agree more . Thankyou for that 🙌
What a great podcast! I love all your podcasts. This one really hit hard for me.
Hey thankyou that means so much , super glad you’re enjoying them. What is it that resonated with you on this one ?
@@thevfxprocess Well, Raman himself. But specifically, I like how he is basically a self-taught artist (besides his illustration background) who is making a really impressive professional name for himself. I liked his thoughts and advice about the industry and how to start (like ask a friend to make a music video for him). And I love that he loves Blender!
