Rudra Veena Unboxing (05/27/22)
Memorial Day 5/27/2024, was the two year anniversary of when my Rudra Veena was delivered from Kolkata, India to my home in Florida on 5/27/2022. I originally took this video so that I could document my first experiences with my Veena. I have avoiding sharing this video, as I felt it really should require some editing, and perhaps some sound over the video itself (please excuse the film Gangs of New York, playing in the background). Although originally intended for personal use, after having had my instrument for two years, I am less self-conscious and happy to post the unedited unboxing video of my Rudra Veena. My friend Joe came over to assist me with the opening and initial inspection of the Veena. A Puja was performed the following day with my Guruji in attendance over video chat. Since my Veena has come to me, I have been able to help my Guru Madhuvanti Pal release an album through Sublime Frequencies “The Holy Mother”, the first vinyl LP to feature a female musician performing on the Rudra Veena. As well as having been able to travel to India to study and live with my Guruji for a short time. I am now currently working on doing everything I can too get back to India to study this music and this instrument.
Richard Frost 🙏
All thanks go to my Guruji Madhuvanti Pal.
The Rudra Veena was made by Guruji Madhuvanti Pal & Sanat Halder of Uluberia.
The cases were made by Dk Das Musicals of Kolkata, who prepared the instrument for shipping as well. Thanks to Mr. Dipen Das’s attention to detail, my instrument was able to safely make the voyage from India to Florida.

How To Choose What Style of Rudra Veena To Play (Traditional, Dagar, or Other?)
Переглядів 15810 місяців тому
Hello!! I made this video to discuss things to think about when deciding what style of Rudra Veena to study on. The most important tip being to find a Guru or teacher to help guide you to what style of Rudra Veena will best suit the style of music you are wanting to play. Each Gharana (style of music) will have its own requirements and different Rudra Veenas will suit better than others. It is ...

Hello Friends, I am pleased to present a review of my Guru Madhuvanti Pal's new album "The Holy Mother, Madhuvanti Pal Plays The Rudra Veena" out now through Sublime Frequencies. This historic album is the FIRST recording of a Rudra Veena performance by a woman musician available on Vinyl LP! I am so proud of of my Guru Madhuvanti, she has worked so hard to get to this point. This LP has been i...
Rudra Veena Anatomy (Parts, Name, & Mythology)

Hello friends, I wanted to make this video to describe the different parts to the Rudra Veena, as well as discuss why this instrument is called a Rudra Veena and some of the differences between the Rudra Veena compared to other Veenas. I also speak a short bit on the Hindu mythology of where this instrument comes from. The Rudra Veena is a sacred ancient instrument which unfortunately in mode...
Finding a Guru (Dhrupad, Rudra Veena, & The Guru-Shishya Tradition)

Hi there:) I wanted to make this video to give my personal thoughts and experiences relating to the Guru-shishya tradition & how I’ve come to study Dhrupad on the Rudra Veena under my Guru Madhuvanti Pal. I’m still getting used to making these UA-cam videos and becoming more comfortable in front of the camera so the video may be a little rambling. I am currently working on making more focused ...

Lap Steel & 12 String Guitar Set, “American Primitive” Style, Fiorelli Winery 06/04/23 Richard Frost
Переглядів 80Рік тому
This was a set I played at the Fiorelli Winery & Vineyard on 06/04/23, I played a Johnson AXL-998 resonator guitar set up for lap steel & a Guild Gad 125-12NT 12 string guitar. There are a number of “mess-ups” and a lil’ tuning confusion between song 2-3, but please enjoy some noise I made on a beautiful Florida day. Song List; Lap Steel: 1.) Drowning on the Nile (DADF#AD) 2.) Sundogs Tribute ...

A short "American Primitive" set by Richard Frost, at the Selby Public Library, on 08/15/2022. Note - This was a video made for a fellowship application. I had been playing "music" for about 3 years at that point. Aside from Indian Classical Music lessons with my Guru Madhuvanti Pal for Dhrupad in the Bishnupur Gharana style on the Rudra Veena, I am completely self thought. I use the term "Amer...

@@louislamonte334 I’m so happy you found this video helpful!! Your dream is a dream certainly worth pursuing, this music and instrument have limitless possibilities! I highly recommend finding a teacher. Perhaps contact my guru Madhuvanti Pal. It was an interaction exactly like this in the comments of a UA-cam video that led to my finding a teacher and serious study of this instrument and music. Best wishes, Richard F.

@@plasnes2055 Hi there!! I have several methods… listen to a lot of music in the genre and out of the genre, Play for as many hours at once as you can, Come up with little riffs and variations (I call them mini songs), steal from your favorite artists, try different tunings, and most importantly don’t overthink. The unconscious is part of what’s so beautiful about this music. Some compose very structured songs others will compose songs allowing for lots of improvisation, feel out what suits your particular style. And most importantly keep playing!! I would love to hear your music someday:))

I'm very happy to see that without doing anything, your heart is open to the mystical experience offered by the pure vibrations of the music, and its spiritual dimension. While I might be biased about qualifying your experience being an Indian and having played classical music myself, I can see your devotion and your receptivity and embrace of the intentions behind the way of Indian spirituality. Your fascination with Beethoven is not viewed as a coincidence or random event - and its something you bring with you from your Soul. Congratulations on finding a Guru and may you be blessed with the grace and evolution only a Guru and heartful student like you can channel through. Blessings be with you. 🙌😇🎼
