We are a little disappointed in the numbers, but we're looking at changing that... Shoutout to Midwest Powerhouse!! Thanks for watching!

      Yeah I don’t see many in this color! Only my bed and rockers have been repainted, the rest is factory. I had new bed sides put on it, but i did a lot of the labor myself. I think it was roughly 3500ish for everything, with them replacing the rockers and doing the paint work. I’d look into getting a few different quotes and find a shop that does quality work!

      That sounds like a cool rig! This truck only gets driven when it’s nice out, so it typically starts great. It does crank a bit longer when the temp starts to get below 40. There’s a video on my channel of it starting in the winter. I should have specified that in the video!

    • @VossGarage
      @VossGarage 13 днів тому

      They’re really just for monitoring the live action! The one on my steering wheel column is my transmission temp, bottom one on the A-pillar is turbo boost, middle is EGT, and the top one is my lift pump fuel pressure. I really only care about transmission temp and lift pump pressure, but the boost gauge is fun to watch 🫡

      @jonathanzickefoose860 13 днів тому

      @@VossGarage what is EGC? That’s awesome thank you explaining it. I am guessing the lift fuel pump shows how much pressure and fuel pushing through the motor?

    • @VossGarage
      @VossGarage 13 днів тому

      @@jonathanzickefoose860No problem! EGT is exhaust gas temperature, something you want to keep an eye on. Lift pump pressure is the fuel pressure being supplied to the injection pump. 2nd gen 24v’s have a vp44 injection pump that is very sensitive to low pressure. So you want to make sure you have good pressure

    • @VossGarage
      @VossGarage 27 днів тому

      Not a dumb question! Really depends on year and factory transmission in the truck. Mine being a 6 speed originally has electronic cruise control, so mine works just like OEM. The factory auto 2nd gen’s are vacuum controlled, and I’m not 100% sure if it will still work. I’ve heard that it does and doesn’t, so I’d research that.

    I like to see a clean nest under hood. I can't stand it when someone pops their hood and it's a rats nest of extra wires ran everywhere for accessories. There's nothing worse than messy wiring and cluttered battery terminals! You'll see someone's positive battery terminal has 4729 extra little wires and crimp on ring terminals stacked on the positive side! It's not hard to get an inexpensive battery terminals to hold all the heavy guage ground and power wires and have extra space for all sorts of accessories! I've spent a lot of time carefully zip tie organizing everything, including redoing some of the factory wiring and looming. I really like the mesh looming, then head sharing the ends to secure it tight on the wire. It loooks really clean. Getting the 'Christmas tree' zip tires and sticking zip tie points really helped clean up and redo some factory wiring. I'd really like to know more about what you did for this 'wire tuck' you did, and the ecm relocate. I see you got rid of that main trunk of wiring that runs alone the tilopnof the fireman and cowl. Where did you move it to? Under the cowling? Your one buddy with the 3rd gen, needs to delete and remove all that under hood insulation and crap on the firewall and along the e cowl. I remember in my '06 mega cab 24v there was all that black under hood insulation stuff all across the top of the cowl and on the firewall. I hate that stuff, it just gets dirty and greasy and holds dust dirt and water when it gets wet! The first thing I think I do on all vehicles, mine and other peoples if I'm working on it is throw that under hood insulation in the trash where it belongs! It really cleaned up my mega cab along the firewall and cowl, I even did the same on my second gen '02 HO 6 speed. It's almost identical to your one buddy as with the white secound gen. He needs to remove that chrome stick on rocker panel chrome! That stuff is just asking for rusty doors and rocker panels! Especially if you live in moist, wet, and salt! I think you said you're in MO? I'm in CO, on the western slope, in grand junction. High desert over here. Itll snow, but not much, Colorado don't use salt on the roads at all, and thank god! Colorado's a good state to buy a clean rust free vehicle from, and is often over looked when looking for something 'rust free'

  • @Moose400ex

    That trick using the power steering and a short extension is pretty cool! I haven't seen that one in all my years of building trucks, wrenching, ASE or working in shops! Learn something new every day! lol. I know those hub bearing assemblies can really be a beer to get off of badly salt corroded and rusted trucks. I've had to use a puller before and get straight up native with a long handled sludge to were your changing the shape of it haha. A good wide wheel clean up of the knuckle and some anti seize on the new wheel bearing hub assembly inside flange of the knuckle will Make it easier for the next guy down the road! Some gloss black spray paint on the knuckle to keep it looking factory fresh and prevent rust! I like to replace backing plates! Especially when they start getting crusty and rusty, or they've gotten tweaked and bent up. It makes them look a lot more visually appealing with a nice clean straight fresh backing plate., they are cheap to, $30-$40 at any local parts place is cheap price of mind to replacing a bent up and rusty backing plate. I know some guys like to just remove them and throw the away and that's fine to, but they do help engineering wise with air flow. If the engineers put them on then there's a reason for them! Rember the engineers are 'know all gods' and masters of design (end sarcasm) Removing them and throwing them away on mud trucks , rock crawlers, or anything that they are going to cause debris, mud, snow, ice and rocks to get caught or stuck in there it's a good idea to delete the backing plates for off-road only. That catch can looks really nice! What kind did you previously have? I know there's a lot of different styles and levels of quality catch cans. That vibrant one looks nice! With 4 ports what's the best setup? To have one or two from the tappet cover and one or two from the top valve cover? So it spreads the venting out and Balances the venting out I suppose? Whats the best way to make the AN lines and fittings. I've never played with them before. Our local Napa store here in grand junction CO and it's a big big Napa warehouse, had a whole wall of AN alumn fittings in all Sorts of ano colored, red, black, and blue, purple. I really wanna dress up some stuff on my '02 under the hood and make a turbo oil feed line, and it would be really cool to make power steering lines for the steering gear and ditch the stock rubber hard lines. Heater lines is another one. I guess I need to research a little more and watch a 'how to' tutorial and go see everything they have on the wall at Napa and the speed shop here in town and get an idea. It can't be that hard right? Just expensive like everything else! Haha. I'm kinda in the same boat as you, my trucks lucky to get 5,000 miles a year out on it, the rest the time it's in the garage. I've had it 9 yrs and only have put exactly 30k on it. And I bet I've changed the oil 15 times heh. One time being at the shop at work, I did an oil service and ran 12qts of bulk 15-40 thru it with a fresh filter of course, let it run for 5-10 mins, and dumped it. Drained it out and changed the filter again and filed with the a good synth 15-40 I like to run. Gave it a good 'oil flush' try and get any and all Of that lingering black sooty dirty oil that's hangs around in the nooks and crannies and corners of the internal oil gallies of the block and in the head and oil pump cavity itself, and bottom of the oil pan itself, there's quite a bit that stays behind when you drop the oil plug, and just mixes with the fresh oil you put in to refill. No good! Ya it's minimal, but it's not a 100% fresh fresh oil change! Letting it drip drain helps but a flush and dump is better! Every little bit helps! 6 qts 15-40 bulk and 6 quarts atf is a good concoction for a super clean engine! ATF cleans really really good! It will remove any varnish internally, or any sludge build up, and will soften hard valve seals. One other trick I have found is to park on a bit of a slanted hill or driveway when draining the oil pan. Park nose uphill so it all runs to the lowest part of the drain pan and towards the drain hole. I know some Might say and it seems like a waste of 2.5 gallons of fresh bulk 15-40 and a new filter, especially when some people can't afford to even change their oil.., but where at a huge gravel pit with lots of CAT machinery and yellow iron machinery, it has a huge bulk 15-40 oil tank lol, all that yellow iron uses 15-40, I even have an endless supply of FASS CAT brand filters for the fass fuel system and and oil filters! lol and a 10k gallon red diesel fuel farm (shhhh!) the perks of being in charge 😂 That shifter setup is a really neat setup! You deff put some thought into to, it almost looks like at first glance that it's still a manual trans with the shifter boot still in place. I don't know if I would go from nv5600 to auto. I've had one auto, my '06 mega cab 24v and I'll never go back, after having to spend $9500 on a stage 5+ full billet trans, I didn't think of doing a FMVB, I considered g56 swaping it but was talked out of it by the guys at the shop and some friends. I love my nv5600 in my '02 HO. There countless people out there that would kill to have a nv5600 or any manual. What did you do with your nv5600? I'm sure you were able to get good money out of it hopefully. They are getting really scarce and hard to find. I see compete 'brand new' non remans selling for $9800+ There several internal parts that are no longer mfg anymore and are discontinued! So they can be hard to source until another mfg like TCS or the like picks it up. I don't go around doing burn outs or anything. I've never even done one with this truck heh. Maybe if I was 16 yea old again. You should go over that 'wire tuck'and how you moved the ECM to the firewall. That looks neat and clean. Where do you get the door panel 'arm rest' replacements? Or you saying you'll have to recover the door panel fabric where's it's worn? The vent lines you got coming out of your stock OE valve cover, did you drill and tap the holes or how did you do that? Thats looks like a good idea to do in the mean time until I buy a billet valve cover that have the vents for a catch can. Please let me know about the valve cover vents! I wanna do that for sure. Lemme know if you drilled and taped the holes or how you did that along with some of the other things, the ECM and wire 'tuck' procedure, what you did exactly, maybe make a short vid on that! You're the first and only one I've seen do such a thing, and a few other things you've done! I'd love to show you my truck and some things I've done!

    That spool up for the little burnout seemed insanely quick. I know im at 5k elevation but even my little 369 wont come up that quick at all. A video of how the turbo spools in various scenarios would be cool. Spooling for a burnout/launch, getting on the freeway, chillin locked in overdrive then tryna go somewhere, stop light to stop light etc etc. Doesn't sound like you use it for a daily like I do but I also dont have any towing plans. It's just here for my enjoyment over and above being the only vehicle I own so I can run a more hopped up set up/want too run it in a daily driver application that way.

      Yeah I decided to auto swap it because I went through a few clutches from doing burnouts and launches... and then I broke 6th gear! It made more sense for my build to go with a built auto. I'd like to get another 6 speed cummins one day, bc I do miss the manual sometimes! I don't blame you for wanting to keep the 2nd gen nice and drive a beater around! That's what I do. Dang your truck has low miles!

    Haha! I thought I had to be the only person that had to push my truck back so the tail pipe stuck out the garage door so It wouldn’t blow black soot particles all over the nice epoxy garage floor coating when I cold started it up in the garage! It makes a mess. It was staining the dry wall black to! So the truck was to release the parking brake (6 speed HO truck) and roll it back a few feet and then jump in and start it so the 5” straight exhaust and 10” octagon tip was pointed a few feet out the garage door! I thought I was prolly the only person in the world that was OCD enough to do that haha! You make me feel normal… Dude I love my ‘02 secound gen. I couldn’t have asked to find a better more perfect mint inside and out HO 6 speed low mile truck. I had an ‘06 mega cab, black on black on black, blacked out everything. Lifted, built to the hilt, stage 5 billet nuke proof trans, all the goodies, and sold it. I’ve had prolly 6 first gen’s over the years, most 2wd’s, and a 4wd that I flat beded and lifted and a really low mile ‘93 club cab 2wd dually 5 speed getrag with only 138k miles I found sitting in a hay barn in Colorado. All Of em rust free and very straight! Colorado don’t use salt so it’s a god state to find rust free trucks online any state east of Kansas and up north, north east! I wish I’d of kept one of the first gen’s as a keeper truck, but my ‘02 secound gen is a keeper for sure. To perfect, to nice, I just turned 100k miles. I bought it with only 79k miles 9 yrs ago from the org owner in Denver co. I’m on the western slope in grand junction, warmer over here, desert. Only Took me 9 yrs to put 20k on it! Now that it’s hit 100k on the odometer I’m going to p pump swap it. The vp44’s defiantly have their own sound that’s unique to them, as well as common rail. But a true ‘street tractor’ is a p7100 pump! Vp’s are aren’t all that bad as a wrap as they get. Just as long as you have a FASS on it from the very start. That was the first thing I did when I got it home was put on a FASS 165 and a bean machine dual port sump. I wanna use that 2nd port on the sump as a fuel line in from an in bed aux tank, and have a 30-35 gal aux tank in the corner of the bed gravity feed the main tank. I’ve got the p pump swap all planned out, I’ve been amassing parts and everything I need the last 8 years or so. All the cool billet parts! Billet oringed timing case cover, billet oringed tappet cover, billet valve cover, billet water pump, studs, heavier valve springs and keepers and heavy duty push rods since I’m in there.

      You're not the only one! I hate getting soot on the ground/wall when I start it. Man you've had a lot of nice rigs! I'd love to own a clean first gen some day... Missouri is very generous with putting salt on the road so it's hard to find rust free stuff here. It sounds like that 2nd gen you have is a gem! Definitely hold onto that one. P pump cummins are for sure the epitome of a street tractor... can't go wrong with a healthy p pump truck. I agree, I think vps get a bad wrap bc people overlook maintenance or don't put a lift pump on it. Get that p pump swap done and post some content so I can follow along! I'd like to see it 👍

      I wouldn’t say it shifts “hard”, I’d describe it as firm. Which it only does that when i leave the converter locked when i shift. It’s pretty much the nature of a built transmission!

      Heck yeah man!! These trucks are awesome. That does sound like the governor pressure solenoid. Let me know what fixes it, I’m curious! Definitely do the grounds too, it’s easier than it looks!

    Maintenance is not a mod. There's only a half year 2nd gen with the 24v and vp44. Sorry - stopped watching at that point.

    • @VossGarage
      @VossGarage 2 місяці тому

      I definitely see your point! I think maintenance is overlooked on these trucks, so I wanted to make sure it’s discussed. I did mention a few “maintenance mods” like the WT ground mod, and some upgrades for the steering on these trucks. I appreciate the feedback man!
