Aussie Electrician - 600A Diesel Generator Connection - TOUGH Job!

Follow along for a double day adventure into the mountains! Josh and I hook up a big Kohler 600A/450kVA generator servicing a nursing home in a brand new Main Switchboard that we upgraded last week. We used this generator to power some essential services via a temporary board whilst we did the MSB upgrade. The weather was a little crazy 30C day one when we manhandled the cables and 15C the next...

    Hey man! Follow you on IG…. And have now found your UA-cam :))) Was wondering if you think the fluke 1664FC is worth it compared to the Fluke 1993. I’m looking to buying my first multi function tester (freshly qualified)… I think that the Fluke 1994 probably has features I don’t need unless I was a business owner. What do you think? The 1663 does all the tests really, including EV. The 1664 is also an extra 2k. I want a multi function tester that can last me a really long time for nearly every area of the electrical industry. Would you recommend me getting the 1663? Or maybe a different brand of multi function tester. Fluke has a really good sale on the 1663 atm as well. Cheers, Lily

      I would definitely consider some other MFTs, kewtech/metrel/megger are all on par. I did think the 1664 was worth the extra $$ for the features (especially auto test and pre-test) it shouldn't be 2k more though 🤔 Msg me on the gram and I'll try and get you a discount through fluke direct

    I’ll be honest i see a lot of people saying you carry way too much and that’s fine everyone can like and do as they please but im like you. I like having as much as possible with me at all times. Sometimes im deep inside a factory and it feels so good when you need something odd and you have it in your bag and dont have to walk all the way to the truck to get some you’ll use for 5 seconds

      I agree. Feel the same way. If I could bring every single tool with me on every single job I would, but for me it gets too heavy. So I keep a big tool bag in the car with all the “special” tool.

    what's the reason for them to be having the two "safety" contactors? is it just an industry safety standard or something?

    • @WillmannElectrical
      @WillmannElectrical Місяць тому

      Yeah mate it's for redundancy - if a set of contacts weld shut the safety circuit still won't work cos there are always 2 sets

    Sexy nail you've got there! My daughter is nine and she's finally outgrown the daddy makeovers. You're going to laugh at my method for stripping Romex. I cut both sides with a razor knife and pull. I don't typically use my sidecutters/linesman to strip wire, but I've done so in a pinch.

    Hallo, dachte zuerst es geht um einen üblichen Vergleich von gleiartigen Werkzeugen,-also von Kombizangen. Daß es hier nun letztlich darum geht wie gut die jeweilige Zange aus der Sicht des Anwenders dazu geeignet ist abzuisolieren ist mir nicht gleich klar geworden und, es kommt noch besser, er verwendet Zangen zum kompletten Abisolieren die an sich nicht optimal für diesen Zweck geeignet sind und erledigt diese Arbeit geschickt und mit Erfolg. Also, man muß nicht für alle Arbeiten daß speziell dafür gedachte Werkzeug verwenden, Geschicklichkeit und Übung bringen den Erfolg in vielen Fällen ebenso. Übrigens, ich bin kein Elektriker, aber daß ist wohl zu erkennen. Grüße

    Yes much lighter 😂 a tool for every job, I prefer to carry minimal tools like a 4in1 non vde screwdriver, a tester, a flat head beater, 1 big 1 small cobras, adjustable, the type of things that you can do most jobs with, if you have not used something in the past 4 weeks take it out 👍

    Great video, do you have a particular preference for 413 socket vs quick connect surface socket? My electrician wants to use quick connects but im concerned they're less safe. Should he be using the downlight sockets shown in your video? Cheers.

      Sorry for the slow reply, quick connects are perfectly safe to use, just a different style of electrical connection. They're actually a bit more expensive but have a faster install time. I've got some in my cieling at home 👍
