That was one heck of a show. I cannot believe that I had never seen it. That was the year that I moved from Philly to Dallas. No wonder that I didn’t see it then, but over 36 years?

I love the audio thet this provides. But DCI's video editing was always shit. Look at 5:30. During evey fucking drum solo, they'll point the camera at the color guard..... This is not even the worst edited performance. Sometimes it's downright criminal.

Are the tenors using the small sets? Doesn’t look like 10 12 13 14 to me, especially when they have them pulled up at the beginning of the solo.

Thanks for posting this. I ended up marching SCV in 1990, but left before tour due to health issues. I love seeing this though, because in 1990, the neutral wood-tone drums used in Phantom 1989 were passed down to SCV Cadets, and these beautiful, all maple, very green Pearl snares were retired. They were just giving these drums away at the corps hall, and I ended up with one of these snares at my home for 6-8 years until I eventually collapsed the rim. It was an amazing instrument, and I even incorporated it into my drum set. I was sad when it died. Seeing this really brought back memories. Thanks for posting.

Man those drums sound great! Particularly that Snare line is absolutely one! I asked my young son without him seeing the snare line: how many snare drummers does that sound like? He said: ONE! I showed him 7 but he said it only sounds like 1! I said that’s what you call: CLEAN!

and now, because of mismanagement, they are no more.

Jfc. That is SO clean.

Whether I was getting out of my car or getting off the bus, the clean sound of snares always drew me to their practice sight at the shows.

Paul Litteau gave the 6th-pl Cadets a 9.7 and the 5th pl BD a 9.9 out of 10. SCV got a 9.4. Nice to see a judge take risks. And YET AGAIN, they march holes in Finals. What the hell was with this corps?

The guard changed costumes in mid-season from the green to yellow, and added better props to add so much GE visual to this show.

can anyone remember how hot it was that night? I felt so bad for those kids in the wool Russian hats, everyone was soaking wet after the show. This recording emphasizes how clean and crisp the snare line was.

As a 86 bd alum, Pearl drums sound so much better than yamaha.

Damn, beautiful clean sound from snares... Haven't played a note since the 90's in highschool band but don't remember our drum heads sounding that tight... Are those kevlar heads?

I know people are a little put back by the judge here. However, I appreciate that he talked to them like adults and not grade school kids. Everyone doesn't get a trophy. Still though, this is a great Great show. Drumline was nice!!!!

Absolutely loved this show - the drum score was amazing. I marched with Vanguard in '92 and the contras all talked about only playing a handful of notes for the entire '91 show. Funny.

I remember it well - Garfield and SCV were going at it with each other all year, with fans equally-divided who their favorite was that year.

A new remastered version of the audio ua-cam.com/video/6LXafrbhk1U/v-deo.html The audio has been remastered. Due to the fact the audio was recorded on a cassette recorder, it didn't stand the test of time. There were a few audio drop outs, dynamic loss, noise, and quite a bit of timing drift all has been corrected. The audio has been completely re-synced to match the original DCI recordings.

Holy clean batman!! Almost all those parts sounded like one snare and one tenor. This may be the cleanest stuff I've ever heard. So much dynamic playing on those old mylar heads!
