MY STORY: - How I Became Paralyzed
Переглядів 2,9 тис.4 роки тому
Welcome to my channel. In my first video I talk about my Injury and how it happened.
Thank you for the video. I just returned from a 11 day cruise in Canada with my mobility scooter. The room was similar. For my next cruise I will order a lift chair for an alternative seating choice from my scooter and bed. Seating in the room is otherwise not suitable. Thank you.
I had surgery for spinal stenosis and ended up with temporary paralysis. That was in Dec. 2022. I now have neuopithy in both legs from the knee down to my feet. It's mainly in my right leg. I'm able to walk with a upright walker but I can only stand for a few minutes. When I walk, I have a hard time getting my legs to do what they are supposed to do, the muscles don't get the signal from the brain as fast anymore. In November of 2022 I could walk, drive my car , do every thing. I never thought I'd end my lyears like this, I'm 86 now, very healthy but I've got a lot to learn how to live my life as I am now.
Thank you for the video! My wife and I are traveling in November and can't wait! Your video did take away some fears I had about the stateroom since this will be our first cruise. Thank you again!
@@Wulfemeister great, glad to hear! Will you be in this exact room? And i know the feeling i was nervous with a few things myself before i went on the ship too.
@@jessethepara We will be in 1024. I've heard nothing but good things about Celebrity. We are very excited!
Very nice! I’m going to have my bicycle riding husband take a look at this and see what he can do! Those wheelchair power assist attachments cost a mint! We have lots of bicycles, though!
Never thought of using a mirror. Nice tip
Nice work. Thats really cool.
Kudos! You guys did an outstanding job customizing. I want one just like yours. I'm a disabled little person (4' 7") and you wouldn't believe how hard it is to find an e-trike -- it's impossible! Please let me know if you ever get into the custom e-trike business; I'll be your first customer. 😃
Can you get an electric one of those freewheels?
@@suew4609 Not at the moment. But i am sure someone, somewhere has upgraded one to have a motor lol.
Nice! Seems like this would also make rolling over cobblestones way easier
Hah. Damn. I should watch the whole video before commenting. You tested it on cobblestones.
@@blorpblorpblorp yeah man in the video the cobblestones don’t look rough but it was a huge help with the freewheel on.
Solid video Jesse! Keep 'em coming. Mustang looks super clean - how many miles?
just about to break 200,000 lol

What is the story on the notchback? Love the SN95! Would love to see any mods you’ve made.
@@mariocapetillo3322 I have another channel all about that car, built it with my father and brothers! Search: “edwardthecoupe”
Jesse. We are kindred spirits. In 2016 I converted my Quickie Shark to an E-Bike using a towed trailer system, then this year I upgraded it to a hub system like yours. I am just about to convert my old bike into a crank assist system. Vids will be posted this time. I am taking it bikepacking in Western Australia this year and Europe next year. Awesome work mate. Keep up the great work. Cheers.
That is awesome!! I will check them out!
Awesome keep making videos brother 💯
no excuses. good stuff bro
Mad love dogg.....
Oh he'll yeah brother 💪
Brothers are the best! Great job, now lets get to manufacturing them and make $$$$$$
But not too expensive! Us disabled have to be able to purchase them on Medicare or Social Security!
Keep a walker in the bathroom so the handicap person can stand up with safety and. confidence.
Hi Jesse just found your channel and subscribed 👍
Great video, thank you for all the detail. My husband and I will be in cabin 1022 next year. My husband is in a wheelchair too (he is a C5-6 SCI and is in a power chair) and he always travels with a mattress overlay, that we put in a wheeled tote. You never know how hard the mattress is and it really protects his skin.
@@hollyoberhansly2303 very true! Everyone is different in that department!
That seat along with the foot rests, at least in my view, makes this bike a great candidate for this conversion.
Well, first off, if I did it this way, the number of splinters I would get in my butt would turn me into a porcupine. 🤣 Next, if I did it with no shoes on, my toes would be a bloody mess. I am way too invested in self-destruction. lol
lol we check the wood first to make sure nothing is sticking up and as long as you move slow you'll be fine.
That’s a cool bike. Hearing that spinning I now understand why my rear wheel on my eBike has the motor on it, my added weight stops it from spinning. If you can install a skinny bike rack on the front you could add something for weight over the front wheel.
Almost threw it away...
I know right?!
Thank you for this video I'm definitely going to give it a try. Stuck indoors due to broken lift.
Great project! What kind of range are you getting? I have an old handcycle that I'm getting too old to pedal, this looks like a simple enough conversion.
i haven't pushed it from full to empty in one riding session because it will go for a long time. I use it once a week and it can go for a month or so if you keep it on the lowest setting and just cruise with it. If you get a little rowdy with it the power drains faster.
Such a great, sweet video.
Thank you 😄
its spinning because it is in front of the center of mass and trying to pull. it would be better if the back wheels were the powered ones. then the force would be behind the center of mass and be pushing and also have much more weight on them, it would stop the spinning. you would have way more acceleration and torque
for supreme level.....have all three wheels with a motor :)
This would be cool to do and something to upgrade to in the future!
By far the coolest E-bike I've seen. I'll place an order for the fat chopper edition. Thx 🙏
Wow that thing is so vicious, way better than a regular mobility scooter.., it has a low center of gravity which improves the handling, the only upgrade i would do would be to put a motor on the back wheels were most of the weight is distributed, making it all wheel drive so the front tire wouldn't loose traction.
Your positive outlook is awesome🙏🏻
I appreciate that! Life is all ups and downs, gotta stay positive as much as you can.
Instead of welding those bars under battery you could put there 3x bigger square battery. Would have wayyy better range. But anyways thats great idea. Government should donate those electric kits to every person with disability. Those are super cheap and can change someones life.
imagine how glad the builder will be.! 23 years and the machine now has abetter look
I’m so glad that you were able to change that bike for yourself good going.🥰
Awesome build. For my trike I added a front rack with panniers and rack. It helped out a lot with the front tire slipping on takeoff. Suggestion I also added the torque arms to the front axle to prevent any damage to your fork. Enjoy I can see the joy on your face 👍🏼
I also made a trailer for my bike. @keepupwithspeedy. ua-cam.com/video/pOjzaKhDYrc/v-deo.html and ua-cam.com/video/-NoS3DhioXo/v-deo.html
you didnt look on my channel. I made a hand bike like that using a wheelchair and the front of a bike. Later on I got too weak to crank it well so I converted it into an ebike. 36 volts. 500 watt motor with a 1000 watt battery. It goes scary fast. I then added a 12 volt motorcycle battery and added lights and signals to it.
Looks like a ton of fun ! You need some tractor weights on the front wheel to stop it spinning.
put a little oil in the tube/tire, will increase its weight, lower center of gravity, and decrease volume of air needed to inflate it
A guy in Florida gave me one of thes old top ends. They are basically the first hand cycles to come out. I tried on sandy and gravel terrain. It was hard to pedal and spun out a lot. I should have tried it on pavement first. But ya the problem with this old design is the lack of weight over the front wheel. It will spin out a lot. Now having the e motor on that front wheel will give it more weight but with all the extra power it’s spinning out a lot in the video. Have you been able to resolve that problem?
I get by with my spinning, but always thought a couple of front wheel fork battery mounts/batteries would help this common issue.
Wow thats really cool....nice of your brother to help you out too. Im glad you loved it .have fun and be safe 🙏
Love seeing you with this freedom to get out and about!! My only suggestions, lighting (head and tail/break) and a whip style flag on the back, all for visibility and to increase your safety out there.
I just purchased these cool lights from amazon that are super bright at night.
I love how the whole family just comes together and makes it happen.
Unlike some families who have someone in it who has a birthday today. Ugh. What could we even say to someone like that?
omg that's crazy I never heard of a spinal stroke before. I had this surgery but omg
Glad you are improving it even further. As I suggested to you in the previous video, you need to balance your weight on both front and back wheels. Right now you are sitting directly on the axle of the back wheels, which creates a wheelie effect and wastes power. If somehow you try to push the whole seat forward, it will prevent the front wheel from spinning without traction. If it is not possible, then there is another easier idea. You can extend the back wheels axel (the horizontal rod that holds the wheels) 3 or 4 inches backward.
This is so simple and awesome. You just need to do something to distribute the weight on the front wheel. Maybe the angle of the front fork is too slanting backwards. If you somehow try to slice and make it a little bit straighter, it will do a good job. I know the handle will extend forward. But then you can replace it with the bent cruiser handle, which will be even more comfortable. Shifting the seat a bit forward will also do the trick. I mean this will prevent the wheel from spinning without traction and will save a lot of battery power.
so cool... that thing is super zippy and stable... 5 years ago i wanted a fat tire trike but on amazon they were 2k... i figured i could make my own for cheaper... i was both right and wrong bc i could have made one for well under that... gut i ended spending way more bc i had so much fun building it... i bought a 20inch mongoose fat tire bike so i could lace the rims on the tricycle hubs... then i had a 26 fat tire wheel with a motor for the front... one of the saftey concerns i ran into was the steel slotted axel wallowing out the dropouts and either spinning the motor out or loosening up the wheel enough that it would drop out and normally thats not a concern but with allthe added wheight of the motor it made me very fearful... i ended up installing some tourue arms... i recently this year got a awd ebike a bigniu bg10... i didnt want to have to worry about the same problem on my new ebiek that i had with my old one so i did some internet sluething and found a brand of bike called meelod... they actually have a axel retention solution for powered forks built into the drop outs... i bought a pair... but ur a handy guy and you could prolly built it urself... while ur add it turn ur old forks into "para" lever suspension forks... or something... anyways enjoyed the vid and subscribed... looking forward to your future vids... very cool dood...
I did that with my Walmart/Schwinn Meridian electric trike. Built it for less than $700 but all the little add-ons I was obsessed with cost me.
Nice wheels Bro. 1 suggestion and anyone who's used them will agree. For $40 bucks you can upgrade to some Zoom hydraulic brakes and be able to 2 finger stop that bad boy on a dime. There'd be no need for the rim brake.
As a threewheel rider with my feet strapped up, you wabt a backup brake. If one fails and you have no backup, you have no brakes and no way to put your feet on the road or smth.
I will look into this, thanks!
cool . lots of space for a bigger battery ?
I felt the nonchalant pride from you getting on the ebike, hell yeah
So the front tire is bouncing around because of the inner tube and or the rim liner. Sometimes all it takes is to deflate the tube and fill it back up. If not you're going to have to mess with the liner.
Thanks i will try that!
@@jessethepara 😁👍
It’s els that or there is not enough weight distribution on the front wheel. I wonder , if the placement for the legs and feet could be more forward so the legs are more stretched straight a head, if that would transfer some weight to the front..kind of like a a regular hand cycle but maybe not to that extent..🤷♂️
Awesome build. You can buy an extension cable for the front motor. Stay safe out there take care and be well.
