Freeway Music is the premier music lessons studio in Columbia, SC. We offer private instruction on guitar, bass, piano, drums, voice, ukulele, strings, brass, mandolin, banjo, and woodwinds. We also offer group classes such as: rock band class, group piano, ukulele sip and strum, theatre, and more.
Students also get the opportunity to perform in our recitals or showcases, in which students from each instrument collaborate on current songs of their choice at concert venues throughout the Columbia area. I know youre supposed to down pick the whole song, but like, why. The difference is so subtle Ive never really understood why its as big of a deal as people nake it out to be.
No disrespect to you but if you think the difference is subtle when this riff is picked alternately instead of down picking, then you just aren't listening enough. Alternate picking makes the riff sound legato instead of machine gun staccato

the first e power chord is an open e5 power chord, not on the fret. and they also play F as the last note on the descending chromatic run, not 2 open e
Someone else pointed out the open E5 as the first note! I think I just learned it this way a long time ago and never really questioned it. That's interesting about the F instead of open E. I see some other people play it that way, but I've seen a lot with the open E as well. I'm not too sure which one is correct, but if you have a reliable source you could point me to for that I'd love to see it. Thanks for the feedback!

Indeed! Don talks about that a little bit in the explanation and why he chooses to alternate pick when he plays it. But if you want to be most authentic, down picking is for sure the way to go!
Ha! I was going to say the same thing although I personally also prefer alternate picking just about everything. Alternate picking makes me feel like I’m playing the guitar…Down picking makes me feel like I’m attacking it. There are good reasons to use both techniques 😉

@@FreewayMusicSchoolHis solo recording career only lasted 4 years at such a young age, and he put out enough in that time to easily call him the greatest. It almost seems impossible, especially considering his style was completely new. God only knows what he would have put out if his career went on.

You sound sloppy as fk. Also you may get more views if you start with showing the finished product or fill at speed rather than starting with the painfully slow sticking. Starting with it at speed is the “hook”.
