    Super cool flow and style. Obviously this can be more efficient in some cases - do you find yourself actively doing this on projects or is it harder to execute these with precision when you're at your limit

    • @ClimbVibes
      @ClimbVibes 5 днів тому

      I admit this will have limited direct uses for most boulders, simply because very few problems REQUIRE you to transition smoothly from move 1 to move 2 but I think this is a fun way to 1) be more mindful of your cog 2) practice executing your visualisations it's true that you can practice 2) in any type of boulder and move, but planning and executing linking moves gives you feedback that are very immediate: (if you are not flowing = bad plan/bad execution)

    That is pretty much how a camera lense with lots of zoom works: makes the wall look much flatter than it is. She compressed the hold on the right and the volume on the left, which seem to be at different depths on the wall, too. Still mightily impressive, but not something I would not expect from a handful of other climbers, too.

    • @ClimbVibes
      @ClimbVibes 8 днів тому

      oooh didn't know that about zoomy cameras! you're right that the volume slopers are probably not as poor as they look on camera, and that most of them would be able to do that singular move for me the impressive part was doing that after alllll that physical stuff at the bottom 🥵

    Regarding the flappy bird technique: Zach Richardson has talked about it on his channel a few times. It's less about 'flapping' your arms but more about facing your thumbs to the ground (internally rotating your shoulders) in order to shift more mass closer to the wall. You can see in Annie Sanders' example, she saves herself from falling as soon as her hands/thumbs face down.

    i really think the guy talking about angular momentum had a good point (from my completely unbiased opinion)

  • @peterhu7039
    @peterhu7039 18 днів тому

    I think the flappy bird motion does help, here is my reasoning: This can be thought of as a similar technique to the scorpion kick/leg position. By moving your arms up and out from the wall, you can press your body closer to the wall. This does not change your center of gravity as air resistance is definitely negligible, but it likely results in a better contact angle for your feet, and allows you to direct the forces from the feet more into the wall, before the arms then come down now that you are in a more balanced position. Could be wrong, would be happy to hear anyone else's thoughts.

    • @ClimbVibes
      @ClimbVibes 18 днів тому

      oooh interesting!! thank you for taking the time to pen your thoughts! I've always thought center of gravity is affected by the weight of the limbs/bodyparts and not air resistance :-0 that's why I've always practiced bringing my limbs into the wall in crucial positions to prevent tilting out but maybe it has to do with the thing about every action (arm flap out) creating an equal opposite reaction (pushes body in)

    • @peterhu7039
      @peterhu7039 16 днів тому

      @@ClimbVibes Perhaps this is not an accurate assumption, and kind of nerdy, but if you think about physics, the center of gravity (COG) is just another word for center of mass (COM). The center of mass will stay at a constant momentum unless there is an outside force exerted. I think this could be a too simplified view of the picture though, as the human body has so many complexities that it is hard to say. I think the goal should always be to bring everything close to the wall as you say (momentum always going into the wall, and end in a position where you are leaning against the wall, thus force from the feet pushing you and thus COG/COM stays close to the wall), however sometimes we mess up, and feel ourselves about to fall out. When this happens, we need a stronger force to push us back in, there is nothing for the hands so you have to push in harder with the feet, and push more directionally into the wall. In order to get better direction, ideally you'd want your hips to be closer to wall, but as you are falling out without hand holds to achieve this, sending the arms back allows you to push your hips in. I think that the flappy bird technique is definitely more of a desperate attempt to save things rather than a technique we should employ when trying to attain a difficult balance position. I hope I explained my thoughts adequately...

    • @ClimbVibes
      @ClimbVibes 16 днів тому

      you've conveyed your thoughts quite clearly! thank you! i too have a lot more to figure out in terms of incorporating COG/COM into my analysis, often simplifying it to "somewhere around the belly button" i'm leaning to your side of the story as well! where its more ideal to generate to the optimal position from the start, instead of the subpar_position + flappy_bird_technique combo

Agathe seems to start more out of the wall further rotating her body out of the wall during the palm press making her slide off the sloper sidepulls.
