Camino de Santiago - Camino Primitivo 2023 - Day 9: O Cádavo to Lugo
This was such a great watch - I can't imagine the amount of effort that went into taking the shots and then walking back to get your camera 🤣
It was fun putting it together. It takes longer to get to my destination for sure, but it allows me to go slow and steady, take breaks, and enjoy the journey. Thank you for watching.
I loved your trip with you and I've walked it solo too but want to walking the Hospitale route this time.Thank you kindly. I'm 79 and still going strong. Going 27 April Portugal Nd Sanabres from Salamanca to Santiago 46 days. Buen Camino..
I have a lot of admiration for you. You taught me that everything is possible. 79 year “young” is still very doable to be on the Camino. During my Camino Frances I met a 85 years old man doing his 13 Caminos. How I like to do my Camino is go slow and steady to fully embrace my surroundings. I’m very excited for your upcoming adventure. I wish you a successful Camino. Thanks for watching. Buen Camino.
Thank you for sharing these video series. Awesome job. I will do the primitivo beginning of april 2025. Buen camino 🙏
Thanks for watching. Personally I think April is a very good time to go, the weather is cooler, less crowd, no bed race, and you can take your time to fully enjoy your Camino. I struggled a bit on the Primitivo due to not being in my best shape, but it’s doable. Overall, looking back I cherished every moment while on trail. I hope the weather will be in your favor. I did the Ingles end of March and got lucky with the weather too. Super excited for you. Buen camino to you my fellow Peregrino.
This is an amazing video! When did you do this Camino Primitivo? I'm planning on going in mid March and am worried about the weather but also so excited!
I just read your comment to the other viewer that it was March 24th! The weather looks amazing!
Thanks for watching. I was too was nervous when I went end of March, but got really lucky with a lovely weather. Overall, some challenges on trail due to my low fitness level, but it’s absolutely beautiful and worth my daily struggles. End of March there are not a lot of peregrino on trail so no need for bed race. Take your time and really enjoy the way. Buen Camino.
The best video about the camino primitivo, I did tis camino in August 2024
Thanks for watching Gil. Hope you had a memorable and successful Camino. So far I’ve done 3 Caminos and still itching to get back on trail again. Something wonderful about the Camino that keeps on calling me back. Buen Camino to you my fellow peregrino.
What about the bears and the bells?
Hi. Apparently there are bears along the trail. However, the bears are just afraid of you as you are afraid of them. Heard and saw a lot of birds, but nothing else. If there are bears then just hearing your foot steps are enough I think to scare them off. Overall, safe trail and well maintained.
@Gettinglostonthetrail thank you!! I am doing the trail in January so this video is really helpful!
I’m super excited for you. It was one of the most beautiful trail I’ve been on. You just got to be there to fully embrace the beauty because video really doesn’t do justice. Best advice is to take it slow. Hope the weather will be good for you. Enjoy! Thanks for watching Estefania.
Really enjoyed this! I walked the Camino Portuguese with my daughter in May, and I’m going to do this solo in April. I didn’t train at all for the Camino but I think I better for this lol. I’m taking quite a bit more time than you did. Like 6 days from Takijiri-Oji to Katsuura.
I heard Camino Portuguese somewhat flat walking. I’m not an active person so I found the Kumano Kodo to be difficult. I was blown away with how beautiful the Kumano Kodo was. There are some section that definitely some training will help greatly, but not impossible to do. You just need to take more break. Definitely take your time and enjoy everything. You can shuttle your bag ahead if you already have accommodation. I did it last minute so I brought my UL tent, but most night I was able to find accommodation. My best advice, there’s really no need to rush it if you already have accommodation. It’s not like the Camino where you have to do bed race to find a bed for the night. Slow and steady. I’m super excited for you and truly do enjoy it. Thanks for watching Cheryl.
What time of year did you walk the Camino? It doesn't look like you encountered many other pilgrims.
@@davebelcher3307 I went mid April 2024. Still early in the season. I did meet a few peregrino, but overall not a lot on trail. Lucky the weather was nice, no rain. Thanks for watching Dave.
Beautiful video of this unforgettable hike!! Thank you for sharing and congrats on your summit!
@@alyssagoesoutside Thanks Alyssa! Indeed it was a beautiful trail. Got really lucky with a perfect clear sunny day. Overall, well worth each sweat. Thanks for watching.

Thanks for watching. The Camino is indeed beautiful. I got really lucky with the weather. I went when there wasn’t alot of peregrino because it was early in the season. Overall, the Camino is a wonderful experience for me.
Congratulations! Such an amazing feeling making it to the top 🙌🏻
@@lifelonghoneymooners Thanks for watching. Indeed it was a beautiful hike, but brutal for someone like me who’s not really active. Congrats as well to you on summiting. Definitely a type 2 fun.
Did you accclimatize or go straight from low elevation?
I didn’t have time to acclimatize properly so straight to the trailhead and started hiking. However, a few days before the hike I did take Diamox and drank unusual large amount of water. During the hike I put patches made for high attitude behind the ear, electrolytes, and ginger candy. I did feel it the last 1.9 miles struggling, but not as bad as how I imagined the first two summit. Overall, wonderful experience. All the hikers I ran into are very friendly and supportive. Thanks for watching.
What a adventure my friend! Absolutely amazing scenery!
Got really lucky with the weather. It was a perfect sunny day. The trail is just unbelievable, beautiful. Overall, well worth the hike. Thanks for watching.

Thanks for watching and your kind words.
This was so nicely done! And I appreciate your sunny disposition! 😁
Thanks for watching. I hope the information will be useful for future peregrino.
What brand/size was your backpack please?
Thanks for watching. It’s the Gossamer Gear Kumo 36 Superlight Backpack. Super lightweight and hauls juuust enough for fast and light multi-day treks or ultralight overnights.
Congrats @GettingLostonthetrail! You were one of our inspirations when we did the Camino de Santiago last year. Now you're an inspiration again. We're doing the Kumano Kodo starting Tuesday, Oct 1, but we'll do it over four days instead of three, which we hope will be less tough on our legs. Stay healthy and safe.
Wow, it’s coming up. I’m super excited for you. The Kumano Kodo is such a wonderful experience for me. Good decision on breaking down the hike. There’s no need to rush if you don’t have to. Really take your time to enjoy the trail. Now the trail is unbelievable. Nothing like the Camino, it’s so beautiful. Remember to bring your Camino Compostela, so when you collect stamps on the Kumano Kodo, you’ll finish the trail with a dual pilgrim certificate, pin, and some gift. You also get to beat the taiko drum at the shrine. I’m so excited for you. You won’t regret this pilgrimage. I hope the weather will be in your favor. Take care and enjoy your pilgrimage.

Very nice, but you're walking on the wrong side of the road!
Thanks for watching. You’re absolutely correct. Not a busy road so we can hear car coming from far away.
I went on primitivo 1 year ago. I miss it so much that i will go aian in 2025.
Thanks for watching. Truly the Camino has a special place in my heart. I did 3 Caminos and still it’s calling me back. I’m happy to hear you’re doing it again next year. Buen Camino fellow peregrino.
Un respeto por las flores y demás cosas que encuentras en el Camino. Eso de romper una planta para darte el capricho de grabarla, hazlo en tu país. RESPETO!!!!
Thanks for watching. I respect everything on the Camino. I want nothing more than to leave the Camino as pristine for other peregrino. In our country we have abundant of Dandelions growing on the grass. We would pick it and blow on it as if it’s bubble. I do it with my kids all the time. Sorry you found blowing Dandelions offensive. I’ll be more considerate next time. Buen Camino.
Buen Camino!
The "Primitive Way" is the hardest of all and the oldest. The first pilgrim was King Alfonso II of Asturias in the 8th century, but he was mounted on his horse and accompanied by courtiers.
It would be nice to do the Primitivo on a horse. The trail was challenging, but I would say doable for a non active person like myself, if one train for it. Primitivo offered beautiful views with amazing people around the world. Overall, well worth the journey. Thanks for watching. Buen Camino.
Lovely
It was a beautiful lake. It’s a small lake and you can even hike around the entire lake within a few hours. The kids enjoyed the boat ride. Overall, it was a beautiful day trip from Yellowstone. Thanks for watching.
Hello, Wybueram.soe in September on Camino, I am wondering about the drone, whether there are many restrictions to fly legally, I have a DJI mini2
Hi. I also have the DJI mini 2. I don’t think there are restrictions in Spain. I mostly fly my drone in the countryside where there are no buildings or important structures. I know a Camino UA-camr, Anton Hill (Hike the Camino), he took great drone footages for all his Camino. Have fun flying your drone, but be careful with high winds. I almost lost my drone a couple of times. Buen Camino.
Nice Tom, amazing place to visit
If ever visit America, you definitely got to visit Yellowstone. Such a beautiful place. Enjoy The Way with your family.
Nice video. Very well edited. I live in Oviedo and many Sundays I walk this first stage to Peñaflor. Near Grado and come back by train. The first time I met this lovely dog in Escamplero he did the same. The truth is he always does the same thing. He puts his chin on the little wall waiting for our attention. It's funny because he's free even though he lives by the road. But his owners trust in him. Buen Camino!
Thanks for watching. Yes, it was a lovely dog. Can you imagine all the attention he gets daily, especially during high season of peregrino. Funny how he listened as though he understood what I am saying to him. Smart dog. Penaflor is just a couple of steps before Grado, wow, impressive. Must be a little adventure when you get to do it. How nice! 👍
Just saw your video of you giving the dog treats. It’s the same dog LOL.
@@Gettinglostonthetrail yes. Many Sundays that are not good for hiking on the mountains I walk these 20 km. And he is almost always there. But I have never seen anybody from the house. A bit later there's a house whose owner died some three years ago and his wife went to a residence for elder people. And all the cats that lived there are still there after all this time. They look really thin. I always bring a can of meat for them. Sometimes there are 3, sometimes 4. So I am entertained during my Sunday walk.
You are a good man. You walk with a purpose and I’m sure they look forward to seeing you again. What a nice mini Camino for you.
@@Gettinglostonthetrail I'm not good. It's simply that I know they are there. And you're right... I walk many mini Caminos 😂and make a lot of mini Camino friendships. They continue towards Santiago and I hurry to get the train back home for lunch. I really enjoy these days. I have met people from New Zealand, Sri Lanka, Belgium, Argentina... And I don't bother them for too long because I usually walk only for a while with them.

@@Gettinglostonthetrail i recently applied there, let's see how it goes
nice video; great job How long did it takes to make the parts chikatsuyu to hongu taisha? what hour did you start and finish? it's not for a friend :p
Thanks for watching. From chikatsuyu to Hongu Taisha, for a fit person probably 6-8 hours. I’m not fit or active so it took me about 12 hours. Some took the bus from Chikatsuyu to bypass the road walking. Also, I spoke to some that had to take the bus the last 7 km and continue where they left off the following day. When I arrived at Hongu Taisha everything was closed and had to come back the following day to get my certificate and visit the shrines. Tough and long day, but if you train before the pilgrimage then it won’t be so bad.
@@Gettinglostonthetrail thanks for the advice. i was looking to take the bus at the hosshinmon oji to kawayu and then the next morning take the bus again and restart at this point to finish the part and have the hongu taisha all open. as i'm going in november i think it's the best solution days are short.
Yes you could do that. To be honest, you could take the bus from Chikatsuyu to bypass the road walking, you will not be missing much. But if you’re determined to do it all then your plans will work just fine.
is the way mostly in the forest that you shoot?
Hi. The Camino passes by small town too, but what’s beautiful to me is the green forest. I live in the city so seeing lush green forest is considered beautiful. Thanks for watching.
Hmmm...if you are ever on vacation in Manila visit the St. Michael center in the Philippines and show them this video...very curious to know what Fr. Jose Francisco Syquia would say regarding ringing the bell and bowing before the shrine. 🤔 Hiking the trails is one thing but this is not Lourdes if you understand what I mean?
I understand what you mean. As for me, I’m NOT Catholic. I love to travel and immersing myself in the local culture while traveling. Bowing in front of Shrines is how I show my respect for their religion and culture. When I am at church with my wife and kids, I too bow to show my respect.
@@Gettinglostonthetrail okay 👌

Breathtaking scenery man, absolutely stunning solo adventure! Love it
It was a beautiful trail. Some challenges, but oh so worth it. Thanks for watching.
Congrats!! I need to get that dual certificate one day! Well done! Looks like it was tough on the legs !
The trail unreal and definitely a must do. I was blown away with beautiful it was. I’ve seen older hikers on trail. I struggled a bit because I’m not active at home and yes it was tough on my legs LOL. Thanks for watching Neil.
You say about older hikers - i remember walking up misen on Miyajima. I was 31 i think - but not used to hiking and not dressed for it… man, those octogenarians etc were just breezing past me … the shame still haunts me 😂 on the ingles recently, as a 41 yo, everytime i saw anyone close to that age I noticed i sped up 😂😂😂 ptsd mate 😂😂😂
LOL that’s why I adopted “slow and steady”. I’m always last into town, Caminos and Kumano Kodo. As long as I have a bed at the end of the day, I’ll savor every moment on trail. Like you I’ve tried just to see how long I can stay ahead, 10 mins max for me and I’m left struggling behind them. Back to slow and steady LOL.
@@neilwatkinson22 “octogenarians” you can’t beat them, they trained year round. I met a man in Santiago de Compostela and he did the entire camino Frances in 28 days in rain and snow. Half of his backpack was filled with medicine and medical devices. “octogenarians” they are such an inspiration for me.
I'm so jealous right now but I'm very happy for you. :)
Farmer, what a journey it was. Beautiful trail with so much to see. Challenging and tough on the legs, but oh so worth it. There were some difficult sections, but doable. Overall, definitely a must for all peregrino.
Congratulations 🎉 to dual pilgrimage! You did it! What a lovely badge/stamp of the Camino shell and the three legged crow 🐦⬛! The trail looks challenging, all those climbs, but super beautiful and all those lovely temples. Well done!
The dual pilgrim was a motivator. The trail was so beautiful. I’ve never been on such a trail and was awestruck the entire journey. I’ll definitely will have to take my wife and kids to do it, so they can earn their dual pilgrim status LOL. Overall, I’m so grateful for such an opportunity to experience it.
Thank you for putting in all the hard work in sharing your journey. I did the Camino Frances in 22 and I am seeing if I can fit the Camino Primitivo this October. You are such a positive and genuine person. All the best to you! -Matador
With your experience with the AT and Camino Frances, you can easily complete the Primitivo shorter than expected. For a person who is not physically active I found the Primitivo to be challenging, but overall it was an amazing experience. The beauty of the trail is unreal, beautiful. I hope you’ll get to do it this October. Buen Camino to you fellow peregrino. Thanks for watching.

Good vid brother, next time gotta check out that parsons landing loop trail if you can. Best trail in my opinion besides mt silver. The flat 8 miles on west road was so beautiful
Great advise. I wanted to do the Parsons landing loop, but no tent space available. Had to start from Two Harbors due to availability. The trail was so exposed. Got to see a bison up close, it was in my path. Overall, good first solo camping and hiking experience. Thanks for watching.

Thanks Marianne for such kind words. We’re looking at Camino Porto. Heard it’s somewhat flat and along the coast. Now my boys are a little older they will have to walk the entire journey. What I look forward to is to spend 2 weeks as a family being together.
I initially found you when you first walked with your family. It’s interesting how some of us, myself included, become camino lovers. There’s something magical and fulfilling about putting one step in front of the other hour after hour. Your videos are wonderful. Thanks for sharing. Buen camino.
Thank you for such kind words. The Camino is a love hate thing. I absolutely love it. The suffering, pain, beauty, achievement, people, food, and so much more than just a walk. So, you didn’t just make it 👍🏻, but you got there in time to witness the beautiful Santa Semana procession. What a wonderful walk you Camino Ingles was. Thanks for letting us participate 😊
It was indeed a beautiful Camino. The weather was perfect considering how early I started in the season for a Camino. Overall, “the way” was more than what I expected. The family I walked with from Cape Town Africa told me about the unesco pilgrimage sister trail in Japan, the Kumano Kodo. Something I definitely want to hike and look into. My next adventure, the Kumano Kodo in Japan. Thanks for watching. Buen Camino.
@@Gettinglostonthetrail Kumano Kodo, that’s quite a shortish pilgrimage route near Kyoto, am I right? They also have a much longer one Shikoku. I once read about that one … is quite tough, I think. Kumano Kodo is shorter, but also contains mountains. I once did a very super dhort short pilgrim’s trail near Kyoto, but cannot remember where exactly. It involved a waterfall under which the pilgrim should wash off all the sins or whatever. It was far too cold 🥶. It was early March. Anyway, I then rented a bike and toured lots of beautiful temples outside Kyoto, where Roman letter style street signs had finished. It was as jute an amazing little tour through all those bamboo forests. Also I went hiking on an island opposite Hiroshima. I was the only hiker, and there were supposed to be some monkeys in the hills 🐒. Fortunately I did not meet any there, but I had a monkey problem near Kyoto in Arashiyama park. It was scary. A bunsh of monkeys tried to attack me and I was saved only by a large family also out for a walk here so we outnumbered the monkeys and they then withdrew. So, beware of the monkeys … wherever. I have had it with them. I don’t want to put you off, just beware of the monkeys. Otherwise I found Japan a true pearl. If you do go to Kumano Kodo, please post your beautiful videos!
The Kumano Kodo is a series of ancient pilgrimage routes that crisscross the Kii Peninsula, the largest peninsula of Japan. A “Dual Pilgrim” is someone who has walked both the Kumano Kodo and the Way of St.James (Camino de Santiago). To receive the Dual Pilgrim status, pilgrims must complete one of the options for the Way of St. James, and one of the options for the Kumano Kodo, then register at a designated site. I’m interested in being a dual pilgrim. The Kumano Kodo looks amazing from my research online.

I liked my rain kilt (not calling it a skirt), until I accidentally threw it away at my albergue in Pamplona. That reminds me, I should order another one for my next Camino.
I liked my “kilt” as well. I haven’t gotten a chance to use it in the rain, but I’ve been using it as a mat to take naps on the Camino. Sorry you lost yours, glad they are inexpensive and replaceable. Thanks for watching.
Passed by many laurrel trees on both sides of the trail on this stage.
It’s pretty isn’t it?! Feel like you’re walking through an enchanted forest. I love it! It was a nice hike today. Also, I enjoyed it because it was done at a slow and steady pace. The birds were loud too.
Tres beau!!! Thank you for taking us along.
@COGmercy thanks for watching.
so, the family man walks alone. enjoy and get back refreshed and full of energy to be with your children again. buen camino. the video is magnificent, the tress, plants, landscape extraordinary well photographed. you are like an artist.
Thank you. You are very kind with your words. Rather than talking about the Camino, let me just show you the beauty of the Camino.
Glad to see you again. Missing my Caminos. And thanks for sharing!!
We all missed the Camino when returning back to home and can’t wait to get back on trail again. Thanks for watching.
