Demiurge (Meshuggah Acoustic Cover by 1xN feat. @Mileshuggah)
#meshuggah #acousticcover #acousticguitar
Is it possible to take the planet’s heaviest, most intricate metal band Meshuggah and arrange their music for acoustic guitar and cajon? Possibly. Would it make sense to throw in an eclectic trumpet solo by brass virtuoso Jerome Burns? Maybe. But is it possible for a single musician to play this polyrhythmic madness on guitar and cajon simultaneously, using all limbs available? Check out for yourself by listening to what might be the most extraordinary cover of anything you have ever heard.

Bautiful combination brother <3
Thank you! ❤️
Really good but that tambourine or whatever it is is quite jarring. Would be better if a ride cymbal or just not there at all
Thanks for the feedback, but sorry there is just no way I could play a ride with my foot 😅 (if that doesn't make any sense to you please check out this video which would make things clearer: ua-cam.com/video/eqyIsgz-HjI/v-deo.htmlsi=HqJ4SWs3hWy_OEk0 ) 😊
Beautiful cover man!
Thank you! 🙏🏼
i listen to this once in the morning and once a night followed by the original and my days are good ☺
🤣 thank you, very happy to hear that! 🙏🏼❤️🤘🏻
Genuine question but might be unanswerable, where is your head while playing this? Let me explain, so a study was conducted thst determined that during polyrhythms and polymetres, we can't focus on two different grooves as human beings, instead we just do something called chunking and we basically hard focus on one of the rhythms and the other overlapping one becomes a sort of "accent" to it, meaning that we either pick the off one or the main one and just "feel" where the other is. This is what leads many fans to do what is commonly referred to as "Meshuggah counting" wherein we don't feel a rythm but we just focus on the 4/4 and then divide the overlaying polyrhythm into repeatable patterns and repeat them in chunks until a switch in the song occurs. So what is my question? Well you are doing two rhythms on guitar while doing two rythms with your feet, sure one could argue that you're technically only doing 4/4 with your feet and the other rythms with your hand, making this not too different from just playing drums, but drummers don't have to also focus on producing a decent melody. So I guess my question is again, where is your head? Are you focusing on your feet keeping the 4/4 and the guitar is just muscle memory accents to that 4/4 beat, or are you focused on the guitar and the beat is the accent to the guitar where it feels like the 4/4 stuff should land? Again perhaps you can't answer this as you get lost in a groove pocket mid recording and can't answer, perhaps you don't remember or haven't payed attention to it, perhaps it depends on where you are in the song and the focus switches back and forth, there could a million variants. I'm just asking from a music scientific perspective because it's interesting to me as this is not just a "one man band" thing, it's also a one man multi melody and rythm combination of polyrhythms and whatnot making this a fascinating case for human focus limits. Tomas Haake, the drummer of Meshuggah himself said that he first sees the track as the overlay pattern and tried to individually learn the different areas and crazy pattterns as the main focus and the 4/4 is the accent in the background, but once he learns it fully it switches to the 4/4 groove being tge main focus and the crazy patterns become the background accent noise sort of. Lastly, my MAN! Haha didn't expect trumpet man to show up here! Spoke to him on his channel not too long ago, nothing like seeing two geniuses working together, what a marvel of internet content! Thank you for this pleasurable listening experience! ☺️👍
Thanks for your message! That study sounds super interesting -- would you mind sharing a link to it? I need to think a bit about your human focus question... I think what you're saying about chunking etc makes sense, but I'll need to pay some attention and introspect during my next practice session and will let you know. In the meantime it would be great if you could share that study!
@@1xNThank you so much for the reply to my book of text. 😝👍 No need to stress it, tell me when you know. ☺️ As for the study, oh boy... If I can find it I will send of course, 😅 the problem is that my theory teacher in college told me about this study, we never saw it, he just mentioned it in a similar fashion to my comment and we discussed it deeply. He was a polyrhythm fanatic so he obsessively told us about these things while we discussed Meshuggah and Tool etc, what a legend. 🤣 But that was 10 years ago... 😅 But look, if I find it I'll let you know, I honestly want to read it myself as it sounded very in depth and went into neurology during musical performance, but if I can't find it I'm sorry. All I know is what he told me which is in the comment, but he could be wrong. However, complete speculation of course here but I have a VAGUE memory of Adam Neely talking about something like that on his channel but I could completely misremember that so that's a big maybe. I have noticed something similar myself however when I learn to tap along to Meshuggah songs, I learn the patterns first as a separate thing and find where they loop, then I tap my feet along in 4/4 and that becomes the focus while the pattern becomes the accent to the 4/4 in my brain somehow so there might be something to it. 🤔 As for the comments from the drummer himself, that is in an interview with Thomas Haake, I believe it is the interview for the album Obzen but I'm not 100%. Again I'm sorry for all the "There's a thing but I can't find it." It's just that these are very old things that came to mind so we'll see what happens. 😅👍 If I find them I'll let you know, if not, then again I'm sorry. But thanks for the reply, sorry about all my novel sized comments, take care until next time, see you in the comments of the next channel projects most likely! 😎
Very impressive and beautiful.
Thanks!
Think you could lift and stamp foot for the simultaneous hits with the snare.
Not sure I know what you mean, what simultaneous hits? You mean "snare" + "HH" (aka foot tambourine)?
@@1xN ye
@MusicWizardry if I make the hit strong enough the tambourine usually also rattles a bit. Lifting the left foot might throw me off the cajon 😅 but I'll give it a try thanks for the suggestion
Feels like the percussions miss out on reverb.
Yeah please check out the rest of this channel (and Spotify), we've rerecorded the song from scratch at dinner point doing a better job at recording and mixing (I hope 😅)

@@1xN Is there anyway I can get the tab for this? I really want to try it on my classical guitar.
@meecob Yes! If you check out our channel there is another video of our Straws cover and it has the link to an ultimate guitar tab in the description

Thanks 😊 🙏🏼🤘🏻
holy fuck this is insanely good
Thank you 🙂🤘🏻🙏🏼
Nice cover man ! What tuning are you usiing on your acoustic guitar ?
Thanks! The main guitar on the track is a 7-string with ADGCFAD (1 step down from standard) tuning. You can also play it with a 6-string in AGCFAD tuning by rearranging the riffs a little bit
Can we get tutorials please 😭
What kind of tutorials? For simultaneously playing guitar + foot drums? Just the general idea or something specific? I've always been playing with the idea but never thought anyone watch it 😅
Just guitar 😭 please
@@uraharagaming86 check the description there's a link to the tabs
Quite awesome! Have you heard Meshuggah's "Futile Bread Machine" (Campfire Version)? It's a pitty Meshuggah didn't do any other acoustic covers; however, you have filled the void that Meshuggah couldnt :) Waiting for more
Thanks! I've heard it, TBH very recently actually. Funnily I can barely recognize the original from their cover 😄 I hope our covers are a bit more recognizable 😉
🙂
To put it simply: 🥲
Thanks 🙂
serene and sublime
Thanks!
Thank you. WIN
Im shocked to see there is no 10 hour version of this anywhere
Haha it's on our TODO list... 🤘🏻
Bro only 20 seconds in, already blown away. I loved the Straws rendition so much, i didn't expect i could enjoy the heavier songs covered, but already proving me wrong haha 2:25 is that a fuckin' mouth harp??
Thanks mate! 🙏🏼😊 glad we could sway you. And no that's no mouth harp, that's simply @Mileshuggah face fart trumpet magic! 🤣
