It's the depression and the fact that I never stayed on any location longer than 2yrs for 23yrs so I'm always feeling like I'm missing something and have to be anywhere but where I'm at.

This is PORTUGAL not USA. If you want American/Mexican life stay there. Americans are privileged and love comparing others. This is Europe lifestyle. You’re living in the most expensive city move to a cheaper city if it’s too expensive. Living in Portugal you’re safer, healthcare is cheaper, food healthier and hopefully we’ll live longer because we’re eating natural foods without additives, dyes etc. I love my Portuguese life and regret not moving sooner. Yes, the language is a challenge but there’s choice if you don’t want to speak Portuguese you can move to cities with more English speaking expats and pay for an interpreter when you need to communicate in Portuguese. Sorry to hear your disappointments but in comparison USA has a lot more things to complain about. The Portuguese people treats you with respect, you don’t need to keep looking over your shoulders in case someone jack you up, police not harassing you. I am able to breathe and I’m not stressed out. Enjoy your best life because tomorrow isn’t promised. Be thankful for each day you live another day without the fear of being shot or attacked. It will get better it’s a life adjustment. Things could be a lot worst, focus on the positives.❤❤

These videos only help to raise prices in a country where young doctors earn around 2000 euros a month. I was forced to leave the center of Lisbon after 30 years and now I'm in Laranjeiras. Now the prices will force people to move farther out. Please consider the locals. Gentrification is very bad in the States. It is now here too and thousands have been forced to leave because they can't afford it.

Portugal people do not look for the color of your skeen. You are a nice person, that is enough. A lot of inter racinal is very normal. Only with futebol players of the oposite club the racial thing will be a case. Not because what you are but what you represent. Ex.: A black player of Porto scores against Benfica, the Benfica fans will say that "preto" son of a bitch.... But is not at the level of race!!!

I feel like they are raising the prices on black Americans moving there. One of my clients was considering retiring in Portugal and she was telling me that she found places for $500-$700. That was a few years back. However those prices seem pretty high! #1 flat was the best one.

Nice apartments, but I feel that a lot of Americans are overpaying for rent in Portugal. Most Portuguese people would not be able to afford $2000.00 per month. I hope you find a place that suits you and your family. Your family is so cute!

Thanks so much for sharing your apartment hunting experience. I lived/worked in Lisbon (American Embassy) 20 years ago. Even though I have a generous retirement income, I cannot imagine paying in excess of $2,000 for a 2-3 bedroom apartment. Just like anything, it boils down to what you want along with what you are willing to spend. I know that the Lisbon suburbs offer lower rental costs, but nothing is a steal and it is unlikely that prices will drop.
