Rope Flow - Overhand intent/Steering
Refining, exploring and adding new variations to overhand steering transitions for my ongoing Matador Mastery course.
This year has been quite fruitful. Focusing on teaching and coaching rope flow has brought new life and curiosity to my personal practice.

Why you should Rope Flow with heavy ropes
Переглядів 3 тис.4 місяці тому
Are you rolling heavy ropes? Here I am using the Orange Shark (920 g) and Big Shark (2 kg) from www.windingropes.com There are good reasons to test your skill with the heavies. Improved technique, timing, mechanics, grounding, balance, endurance, grips. And let’s not forget, it’s super satisfying to swing these tools with all your body’s might. Naturally, you want to use the principle of progre...
Rope Flow Stockholm Meetup

First Rope Flow Stockholm meet up was quite a success! We had fun, we learned some new patterns and then jumped into choreographing an athletic sequence using Bowlers, Aces and swings. In the end we got it (mostly) synced, despite this being the first time exploring these patterns for most of the group. A big thanks goes to everyone who joined as well as @wayoftherope @alternativaktivitet @play...

INSANE!! So inspiring! I’ve been doing rope flow for about 2 months now and loving it. Hope to 1 day be half as good as what I just watched.
Impressive, congratulations! 👏Thank you for sharing!
Never seen the alternating hanuman before - thanks
Beautiful! 🤩👏

For how many years are you practicing ropes ??
When this video was recorded, about 3 years. Now it's 4

Really impressive! Congratulations and thank you for sharing! I like how the music complements the moves. And I particularly appreciate the intermittent change of pace...👋👌This is a great example of what rope flowing is - it's like dancing with the rope...😉👏
Where can I sign up for the Matador Mastery Course?

Really nice flow. It will be hard for me to imitate it, haha.

Ive been doing rope flow for a yr again now ... i have a long way to go but its very beneficial GET INVOLVED EVERYONE YOU WONT REGRET IT!
Could you do a tutorial of your flow? Meaning how you transition from specific drills to other positions? Not sure if I'm explaining that well enough to get my point across. I can do most of the major movements but struggle with the more complicated transitions.
@@mmayojr Everything you see in the freestyle flow is the result of drilling and refining fundamental patterns, footwork and transitions. All transitions need to be drilled independently, to the point where they can be done without thinking and can be chained together. I’ve posted many tutorials, drills and demos on how I practice. Check my IG and YT. I also coach people 1on1 and in small groups so they don’t have to spend years learning this.
@@AlpacaFlow Do you do online coaching?
@@mmayojr yes! In fact, most of my coaching is online- personalised coaching and group classes
Very impressive. This is not easy. I've hit myself upside my head with the ends of the rope doing this move, it hurts lol.
Nice 👍👍👍🙂 I need to practice this!
👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻🇬🇧
ah man your like this final boss who kept tranforming the more you think you got him
👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻🇬🇧I love flowing❤
Man that looks amazing. I have only 1 rope. Are different ropes better for different moves?
@@Doors_of_janua one rope is all you need, but different ropes can be used for different practice intentions. E.g lighter ropes for speed/learning new things, soft ropes for wraps, heavy ropes for perfecting technique and timing
@@AlpacaFlow thanks! I’ll just have to get a few more and … feel it !
Are you holding this rope differently. You holding it in middle??
What kind of rope is this???
@@mattdempsey8173 just a regular flow rope
amazing... well done developing those rope flow skills
If you can do it slow, You can do it fast. Slow is smooth, Smooth is fast.
Another fantastic video. Thanks for sharing! I have learned many skills so far but to do the combination with all the transitions possible is still very difficult for me. Do you offer courses or videos about how to combine different skills with one another? Best greetings from Germany!
@@canetraining I don’t have any pre-recorded courses, but I offer virtual and in person coaching, workshops and group/cohort courses. At the moment I’m running Matador Mastery, which is a six week course focused on pattern variations, steering, transitions and footwork. Most of my students are interested in transition and footwork skills, seems that’s the missing link.
So freaking smooth! Do you have any tutorials for your more advanced rope flow techniques?
@@jeffweidmann7028 yes, mostly on IG and sometimes here. I also teach virtually (personalized coaching, group workshops and courses)

I like your Style. Looks great and like the neonorange Rope so much. How is the weight of the Rope? and is it possible to order and send it to Germany?
@@tomsurf5769 this rope is from a Belgian company RopeWaves, but I don't think they sell it anymore. It's about 350 g, so much shorter and lighter than what I normally use
Thank you again for sharing your skills! May I ask how thick is the Alpaca-Slush rope (in mm)? Thank you!
I just discovered rope flow a few days ago and see this as a basic self limiting option for my older clients seeking rehab/recovery and those ready to reclaim life. Unlike weights, the stress is variable to the need plus adds stretch, functionality, and flex. Wondering where you are at and if you'd be open to future collaboration
@@Papadoc1000 Indeed, rope flow practice can be as intense or as forgiving as you want it to be. It's great for rehab and elderly, I have a couple of students like that. Always open for collaboration. I live in Sweden, but do most of my coaching last two years online to students worldwide
Is 5 lbs too heavy?
@@LouisRossignol-t7r It's too heavy for beginners and people who haven't progressively built their technique and tissues. It's not too heavy for skilled practitioners with conditioned joints
Congratulations! Thank you for sharing! Do you have a link to an interview or something similar showing how you started and progressed? Thank you! As a side note, what kind of training shoes are you using?😉

@@AlpacaFlow Thank you for the quick and comprehensive answer.
I understand that you've tried around 50 ropes in about 4 years. Do you think the cost of the ropes is worth-the-while? Do you run into customs fees when you import them from Australia, for example? Thank you for sharing your expertise.
@@CanisNiger yes customs and shipping fees are a consideration when ordering from abroad/overseas. I can't answer if it's worth it because that depends on your financial situation and personal preference and how much you value good tools for your practice. It's worth it for me, bit I wouldn't recommend splurging on brand ropes to someone who's just starting.
@@AlpacaFlow Thank you for your comprehensive and quick reply.
Impressive! Thank you for sharing! I personally enjoy this longer format.
Thank you! Do you practice daily? If so, for how long? Thank you for sharing!
@@CanisNiger yes, I think daily practice is the key to getting really good at rope flow. I practice 1-1.5 hours per day.
@@AlpacaFlow thank you, this is helpful!

I keep seeing these videos on rope flow but have no idea what do they actually do ??
Full body low impact exercise that promotes functional mobility and balance. Also works the brain as a sort of physical puzzle. The one way to satisfy your curiosity is to pick up a rope and start swinging the barrier to entry is extremely low.
