I've been looking for a video on the physics of aircraft building in Trailmakers for so long. It turns out no one wants to make videos like this.
yeah. also this is very much just a few small details in the physics. i also think people dont make them because you can just search irl plane stuff and it transfer 1:1. here is a good video on it, just be aware that for roll its not just dihedral but rather moving center of drag upwards as a whole. ua-cam.com/video/7oy3jXu_DmY/v-deo.html
I love how you make trailmakers sound like a school learning enviroment.
i do what now???
Considering Arodynamics? I just hit it with a Hammer and slam on Gyros untill it works. Also, did you know that spoilers produce the most lift for both size and weight? They have the same lift as the large modular wing, and weigh 0.1kg for a 2x4 block, both those stats are stupid good. On another note, I encourage you to play arround with that piston "Gearshift" mechanic I discovered.
real and true and yeah i did know of the spoiler thing. i still dont like how thin they are.
I made a swing wing system that based its position on if you were pitching or rolling because a high aspect wing is better for pitch and low aspect is better for roll
thats pretty interesting.
Thanks, your system was an interesting idea I hadn’t thought of, now I’m inspired to make an flight control system tomorrow
@@yapyarlpthegrunt glad to help and inspire.
F-8 crusader I believe
yeah, i was thinking of the company that made it for som e reasn
If I show you all the control surfaces on my SU-57 you'd have a stroke
i think i made worse before
we need this man to get a better pc for this. thank you so much, my planes always fly unstable and now i can maybe make them work right!
i see your fps drop quite a lot
i swear it runs above 20 fps normally, its just when it is recording it drops the frames.
I KNOW RIGHT? i swear this applies to everything. @@ThisIsDumbAllTheNamesAreTaken
X-29, X-36, and Gripen detected in thumbnail. 10/10 I approve
i was just making as many single engine fighters with distinct forms, glad you like them.
wait x-29 is the forward swept one, X-31 is the TVC one oops
this is a great video! if you are up to the challenge, could build a small RC missile
i think already did that in a previous video but it might be interesting to make another version
THE CREATIONS ARE LINKED IN THE DESCRIPTION. also yes i am still taking suggestion on video topics.
Can you use a radar for guiding a missile cuz using the distance sensor is really bar for guidence
sadly it fails at speed.
Hello past johnfrom yesterday, NEW LOGIC! NEW LOGIC GATES EVERYWHERE HAHA!
YES, I MAY NOT BE SMART ENOUGH TO MAKE A FULL ON GAME BUT I WILL DEFINITLY MAKE A BALLISTIC CALCULATOR
whats the point of the tracking if the auto tracking feature on the other cannon already does that \
its to allow the turret to track 360 degrees and also allows you to use piston acceleration which normally throws off auto aim.
Tracking targets. Ye sounds like missile thing. U should make one
i TREID before. its a lot harder than it looks.
@@ThisIsDumbAllTheNamesAreTaken i believe that thx for sharing man its very inspirational
I mean i have a different way of tracking targets and you wanna know i could share the info with you on something like discord
please do share, but it will be useful for others that watch this video as well so i recommend sharing it here.
@@ThisIsDumbAllTheNamesAreTaken are you in the trail makers discord?
You should try making a radar that scans the sky and can accurately display the position of an aerial target in some form. Maybe even able to lock onto it once detected. You will likely have to use 500 meter distance sensors. Idk what platform you're on, but if you don't already have it you can probably get it from someone else.
500 meter distance sensors? How do you get those??
i will definitely consider it
btw im taking suggestions for projects to work on.
Make a video on another game to see how it goes. You’ve built a pretty good audience by doing nothing but yapping about nerd shit, and that is pretty transferrable to different games. Just as an experiment to see how it goes. As for trailmakers, custom weapons, hinge hammers/drills, tnt cannons, block cannons and whatever else you can experiment with could be a pretty popular video. And yeah I’m jealous you’re doing better than me on this platform by yapping, I’m fucking pissed bro 💀. And and and when you get enough of a following start a group known as the “john nation” trust 💯
Guided missile I know your genius ass can come up with something
@@SSS333-AAA i dont think i will ever play a diffrent game. i know this is pretty much shooting myself in the foot for long term contnet because if the game slows down so will this channel, but i honestly dont care.
@@JackHowlett-vl7ex trust me, i have been trying. i cant quite finish it and get it work.
@@ThisIsDumbAllTheNamesAreTaken that has to be some of the most based shit i've heard from someone on this platform. i hate using the word based but it fits here.
I learned somthing about pistons, it happened while I was testing how much wight they can support. It's inconsistant btw. but in general glitchness happens past 23k kg. Alright buckle in, this is gonna be a paragraph and a half. My testing lead me to trying it against another piston. I set the stationary one to -100 speed with auto reset on and the controll to 5. Now Introestingly, the Poston at 5 speed moved the other one effortlessly. Of course I did thuther testing, using detachable blocks, and then connecting the pistons themselves. I got the same result. Now of course I wired the -100 speed piston up, gave it some controll. Whatever you set the 5 speed piston to would then cause the -100 speed piston to go down and then bounce back up to that hight. Well, just a little higher but it's close to the same hight. It refused to go up however. I then added another contoll group, by adding a 50 speed piston with auto restet off. With the 5 speed now being in the middle. I got the same results as the -100 speed, exept it went Back to the same hight as the 5 speed piston exactly. It would go down like normal, but when you tried to move it back up, it just would not surpass the distance you manually set for the 5 speed. My mind instantly went to a gear shift of sorts, though I could see this being usefull when you want 2 seperate speeds for a piston and not 274 logic gates to do so. (I'm assuming you have 2, or even 4 pistons on a connection point already. Becuase semetry is nice)
You should post a video with this testing, te text is confusing
Eh. I don't know how to record audio, and I don't wanna be that guy that uses text
@@Zane12ai no shame in using text, if it helps the comunity
I already done that and I just use it when im driving, so my turet follow the ennemi. (I use large canons so its really precise)
truly a john classic.
Haha dials, confusing. Me just hit with hammer and wrench till thinggy go work
Do you think you could find a way to minimize the rc thing. I myself have made it as compact as can be but without pistons as they bug out when are disconnected from the players "main build"
Update: i tried my half baked lazy metnod pathetic excuse of a quantum drive, by of course simply spinning the engine arround the craft. It works exeptionally well, giving me exeptional mobility on a suprisingly small and realitivly slow craft. (Almost 200mph exactly) while very unorthadox to fly, the potential is near limitless if you fully master the sacred tow matter arts of driving backwards. How do i put this... it doesnt fly like a plane, or a spaceship. It flies more like the turret you would mount on said plane or spaceship, if that makes sence. Though i will say, my last minute touch of adding a piston locking mechanism to hold the engine in place was a great addition, allowing it to function simular to a plane for greater controllability. Turns out, using even 2 blocks of leverage with your gyros instead of just using the gyros themselfs grants a much much higher menuverability.
I love how his channel name is literally just John😂😂
something something john trailmakers
this is awsome,I must say. I thinked about player-tracking missiles an got some design. I'm not good with these so i'm giving it to you : after launch missile must rapidly accelerate(strongest jet engine for no DLC), then it starts spinning. Missile must have range detectors that activates gyros for turn. Range detectors can be placed on one or two axis : spin make flying up and right ussles, because spinning rocket will roll. (Bad at english I am)
If you want to make the nose of the f35 stubbier, put the spaceship cockpit a block back and put decal over part of the windshield. decals are magic maybe if you piston glitched the nose cone back 1 block then you might also be able to make that part stubbier as you had wanted. However, piston glitches and stuff like that almost always make things less stable so do it at your own risk.
This would be a really great way to fix the awkward movement of most First Person Shooter simulators
one of many great uses of quantum rudders.
I viewed them as simply a form of propulsion and used gyros for pitch/roll/yaw. I used pistons to extend them away from my center of mass when needed. It controls like a normal plane but it can start and stop nearly instantly
I cal, them quantum engines personally, now that vectoring system, thats a drive. On that topic, i see it. Eing easier to simply rotate the entire engine itself, though it only works with smaller sizes. But thats all you really need, speed is optional when you can swap directions instantly
i personally prefer to have multiple because of redundancy and also because its less mechanically intensive as opposed to rotating the entire engine. its like the difference in mechanical devices and solid digital devices, its simply faster and easier i think.
Gotta remember, I mostly play on console. And also, anything thats above a logic on/off inverter switch, it scares me
@@Zane12ai fair enough but i just copy and pasted tank control logic for it. its practically identical except with one section inverted.
@ThisIsDumbAllTheNamesAreTaken really? Becuase strictly speaking, I only use one logic gate for that, I just program half the engines to half the wheels and wire it up to the or switch, and becuase engine power is evenly spread across wheels, the force in each wheel is double but the total power is cut in half, multiply that by the other half and what do you know? You still have full power.
there is also a wierd thing with the quantum drive is that the farther away the quantum drives are from each other the stronger they are, also nice vid.
He said that
actually not quite. from my testing, which yes, could be wrong, its not about how far to the other quantum rudders but rather how far to the center of mass
If you're sad, become a russian tank. Russian tanks have no depression
I think Trailmakers just hates you building anything with the word "radar" in it
Would be interesting to actually get the see the drone more up close. Just found your channel and I like your stuff!
you can always download it.
@@ThisIsDumbAllTheNamesAreTaken Good point! But still.
really cool video and concept. What you actually build is a "gyroscopic gunsight" instead of a radar. These where used in the late months of ww2 both by german and allied planes (k4 gyroscopic gunsight as example). This sights accaounjted for bullet velocity and drop, giving an estimated lead sighting point for the pilot, who just had to introduce wingspan and distance to target for the computer to calculate the lead
Thanks. This helps alot. The first two prototypes are relatively what i wanted to see👍
“The missile knows where it is because it knows where it isn’t”
it also knows where you are
I considered saying this myself, but I had faith in humanity. And for once, it actually paid off. Thank you stranger, someone had to say it.
jhon I also tried to make this. I took a rather different aproach so it would be interesting if we could team up?
sure, would love to look at your desihns some time
Vary interesting concept. You have had a lot of short to medium range weapons but what about long range. But would it be possible to use translation by manually aiming 2 servos to a point (using a sight) and using that to not only aiming but to get distance. Can you use that to account for very long distance shots for far away targets? It would most lily be on the ground. Also do you think you would have more success with a bomb impact radar gunsight for a plain?
actually yeah, i got a few vids on a rangefinder on my channel and the end goal was to feed it distance values by using a range finder. i never got around to it. the issues i had were mostly linking everything and the scale and stuff. also servos dont have good prescion so range past 500m is hard to do.
Make a Fire control system that accounts for lead and has automatic tracking for tank and it's whole turret Push a button to lock onto a target and the whole turret will rotate towards the point accounting for range, lead, and speed
i cant. the only way is via sensors but that does not work because it would lock on the ground. i tried.
We need a "only target blocks" feature, it would make my missiles much better, for one.
Seeing as this video was sponsored by a comment, i will be seizing my opertunity to once again ask for a power coupling engine. Preferably, one usefull on plains. To save you a bit of a headache, the most i managed to acomplish rather consistantly reguardless of desighn, is a great rotational force. My mind instantly went to an axle of some sorts. howerver, i am very lazy.
i did try actually but physics gets too angry. i make stuff work, but not through miracles.
@ThisIsDumbAllTheNamesAreTaken "it doesn't half to work great, it just has to work." -ScrapMan If you have even a somewhat working model, go ahead and show it. Perhaps someone else can refine the concept
can you show my how to build the stealth drive on the second iteration? i did make one before but its extremely unstable and inconsisten so would like some help. thanks
cant exactly make a detailed how to guide but the links for the creations are there if you want to take a peak and its mostly tuning strength and amount of hinges and anchorpins.
@@ThisIsDumbAllTheNamesAreTaken yeah im mostly just trying to figure out the settings but the thing is i play on xbox so dont really know how to actually see it
@@nicholasrobert9676 ah, well all i can say it is a very painful and long journey with only RNJesus as your guide. good luck.

Can i please have the blueprints i just wanna see how it works and build my own
why does NO ONE EVER READ THE DESCRIPTION, THE LINK IS RIGHT THERE.
For your next project, could you do an advanced reticle system like in real fighter jets where it shows you with a moving reticle where your bullets will hit, ive been trying to do this for a while but im just unable and i think you might be able to because you have a lot of knowledge on the game.
that's actually a very interesting idea. i might actually have an idea.
I really like your videos and it would be cool to have a discord server. also it would be nice if you could record your audio with another microphone like a pair of earbuds or your phone
dont got another mic. infact, my current mic is not that bad. its just that i play on a laptop so thats the sound of the fan.
a lot of this logic seems fixable with like 5 less logic gates, to make the legs go more forwards than backwards u can just up the speed on the servo,up the angle and then turn the output on the backwards gate down, for the strafing its 4 logic gates, walking its 6 and arms should be 6, idk but the logic looks way over complicated. youre still really cool n ill follow cause ur mechs seem really cool
im not sure what you mean because aside from the outdated mech core, that is what most of my systems use. i just remade the core to have 10 logic gates for forwards and backwards and strafe.
Yo does anyone know hoe to sort out stuff like that one console like have different blueprint folders
its really amazing just how a worse audio quality drops the amount of views by an order of magnitude.
That's how I do my RCS logic. This concept is widely applicable great vid. Also that gyro tip was awesome 👍
