Yeah definitely seems like not a bad card per se, but this easily could have been Michael Beasley level cheese and 2k clearly nerfed him. I’m sure hell get a dark matter update at some point.

I would say as a general strategy, whenever we start nearing the end of a season before super packs drop it's a good idea to sell high because you can bank on the auction house crashing immediately the moment super packs drop. So unless you have someone that makes sense and that you like for your lineup, sell anyone that you're willing to part with before people do the same thing.

@@user-wg7pw3ix9h selling on Friday night and Sunday morning is the best options but Mobley shouldn’t be in your lineup. Slow release and Hakeem PD is miles better. All star should give you more options too, sell.

It was like seeing a rare peacock out in the wild, such a mythical card I was beginning to wonder if it was actually real!

I go in pretty deep in the video as to why Paolo got a big boost, but totally agree with you on Bol Bol -- just a real missed opportunity for 2K to juice that card, feels like 2K will miss a bunch of revenue from VC by nerfing him heavily.

@ Paolo new card hits a few more thresholds but I don’t think it justifies the price when Giannis is on the market and a lot of SFs are coming next week. Unfortunately I think they are making Opals the next diamond card. Lots of them on the market but only a few top tier.

To be totally honest, it was a happy accident that started with the last video -- I upgraded to Sequoia which laced the operating system with a bunch of AI features and for whatever reason throwing up my hand gestures and "what's up" triggered the light show...I ended up rolling with it. @ Probably need to put something to explain it on the page, but we just released it 5 days ago and explain here: ua-cam.com/video/BprLuB-zd9g/v-deo.html -- but basically it's the metamodel that includes user submitted scores on the shot release. This is a crowdsourced rating between 25-99 (like an actual 2K stat) which is then integrated into our regression metamodel. The normal "model 3" does not include release.

Gonna guess 62 is a typo, but love hearing this anecdotal evidence because that was a big question I had on Worthy. How would you describe his play style over X-Man?

@synthbangers no he has 62 badges. Idk if it's a glitch but the only ones he doesn't have is mismatch expert and special delivery. If you got a email I can send you screenshots or whatever but yeah. Idk how he's able to total that many but he does. It's really just my preference I guess. Stat wise x man is better for sure but I guess because I like his release alot better, he's taller and faster I think plus the badges obviously. He didn't come with 62 badges base but the fact that I was able to juice him up to that many is crazy.

I've seen some other comments outside of your own separating our offensive and defensive value for Beasley which is interesting to me -- in my eyes they both matter for the card; but I think you're just basically saying that their offensive/defensive superiority washes out with each other.

Would love to get my hands on that Scottie Pippen card. Definitely hear you on your preferences with the model, and like I said in the video, I got you -- similar to how you use different model types in LLM's you can count on me to make available different models tailored to how you want to evaluate the cards. From your perspective, if you think people overvalue release and animations (something I lean towards agreeing with you on for sure) then in some respects comparing against that model can perhaps give you an edge over others competitively.

He’s good against players who overreact on defense to that fast crossover. I don’t think that dribble sig is going to be valuable against more experienced players.

Well technically, if you evaluate the meta scores Michael Beasley is actually better than PD LeBron with a 57.27 score vs 57.03 -- so that actually lines up with what your observations are! And I'm not saying in the video that he's a bad card, I just think he's overvalued based on what the metrics are saying. I'll be interested to see how he scores with the new release model that we're deploying soon. You can do the community a solid by scoring his release on the website and you'll see that reflected in the release model going out tomorrow.

My philosophy is that if the player works for you why not roll with it? Always got to think for yourself, well done!

Thinking more, parameters could be as you see fit/relevant for the given time in the game cycle when you post. Like I know you wouldn’t want to be talking about rubies in May when they likely stop adding any lol.

Yeah that is definitely an idea I thought of and even played around with a feature -- it definitely deserves a video so we'll do that this week! It's definitely way overdue, thanks for the suggestion!

I actually worked on a version of this -- the whole reason the scores are more static is because of the Tatum card. I'm still not ruling out this type of scoring system and may even deploy a version of this but as someone who has worked in the sports industry on the analytics side it's hard to have one overall metric have different versions (the classic example of this is baseball fWAR vs bWAR).

I also just saw your comment regarding the context around how expensive the game is. Listen, if anyone wants to view spending packs as entertainment that has a cost attached to it, by all means 2K has to make money. My position on this is that it's fine to have microtransactions in the game, and I even think they should have two different game modes: VC, and MT (for the NMS guys). It's a huge problem if I'm ripping a box like this and my net loss in this MT value wise is -85% -- 2K is taking an insane cut from the pack marketplace.

I think there are much better options than that, just use the PD filter on the meta model page and use that when browsing the auction house. I actually like Richard Jefferson as a cheap PD option for SG/SF.

Not planning on giving users the ability to alter build anytime soon, but it 's an interesting suggestion. I would say stay tuned on some things we have coming down the pipe that are somewhat moving in the direction of what you're asking for.

The animations are a consequence of the attributes. When the game performs a dice roll on a layup, for instance, it decides if you’re making the shot; THEN an animation is applied. The animation set doesn’t determine anything. That’s why you see weird animations sometimes. Your card wins the dice roll and then shoots the ball right through the defenders hand, or lays it up inside 4 blockers, or maybe on defense your defender teleports across the lane and snatches a shot they couldn’t get to in the physical world. The dice roll creates the outcome and an animation was applied after. Same with sig dribble moves. The stats and a dice roll determine if the defender gets stunned or ankle broken when the ball handler performs a crossover. How pretty the move looks doesn’t mean anything. People who won’t play a certain card because they don’t like the release or sigs are a lot like modern women who won’t date a Scorpio because they “always cheat” or people who won’t stay on the 13th floor of a hotel because 13 is bad luck.

@@waynealan3067except there’s not a dice roll when I force your guys to cut from the corner and I know the angle where I’ll get a contest no matter the stats lol. This is not an X and O type game and the people (unfortunately) who see it that way don’t have much success. I rank top 10 pretty much every KOTC and I’ve been ranked every season in tier 1 showdown on PS. I promise you if Gasol is on your team no matter the version, he better be the one scoring 40 or he’s a liability. Sigs and release almost matter more than badges, that’s why in the past Terry Dischinger was used up to dark matters. If you can’t dribble with the card to get open and force the animation, then he’s not worth having on the team. The claim “well you can use him for pick and pop and calling plays” is irrelevant when he’s too slow for the pop and calling plays is for the people who, I hate to say, aren’t very good at the game. One double team to the ball handler and that play is shot in the dark for good and any good player is switching off Gasol to guard the drive or 3 pt. Numbers only get you so far in a game that’s about thresholds only, and after that point is about sigs/release/ badges to emphasize the thresholds of the card

I read and reply to every comment in here (for now), but recommend going to the video I did on Bill Walton and read the comments in there and come back here. Fortunately, both of sides of this discussion just so happen to be in this thread. One thing I will say, and I'll sound like a broken record, is that I have something coming in the next model update that should appease both sides on this issue. Appreciate the feedback!

Galaxy Opals are really still in the over 100MT territory, I imagine that changes when Dark Matters eventually saturate the market. I would say look for PD's like Giannis, Evan Mobley, Rajon Rondo, etc around that price -- my real answer is keep stacking your MT to try to land an impactful Galaxy Opal because the Lunar Event and challenges will offer opportunities to earn MT at a faster rate. Grind this season's domination if you haven't already.

I always love your feedback because it's much closer to my analysis and sentiment and we both appear to be contrarian to the common opinion on what makes a card good, I feel like a broken record but I'll have something soon to make both camps happy.

You mention badges and they do play quite a bit of a factor but 2klabs and a few others have tested whether the badges or thresholds are more important on the card. I’d urge you to look at those videos to see the evidence there. Gasol is 78 speed for a PF which is pretty bad, and he can’t dunk. So you’re going to have to use him as catch and shoot option which would be great, but the release point isn’t great.

I don't keep track of my win percentage since I don't play enough showdown to get into that Tier 1 leaderboard -- btw would be nice if 2K added leaderboards for everyone, why can't all games do global leaderboards? I would say I'm probably a notch or two above average, and if I had to guess my win percentage is like a weighted coin flip between 50-55%. Not sure what that has to do with anything being discussed in the content.

I'll try to check those out in my copious amounts of spare time.

And because if you’re winning 50% of the games but aren’t ever facing tier 1 players, what’s to say others opinions aren’t more accurate to the state of the game? A 80-90% win percentage should give you a better understanding of how the game works

Bill is good if you grind offline, that’s about it. Kwame Brown is a better card and is a diamond card.

I'm going to be a bit more patient, as you say he's good enough to be in a lot of lineups and even though he hits on all the advanced metrics in the Oakleaf model I feel like he's not going to have the stickiness to be in there long term. We'll see!

I completely agree. CASE IN POINT: DM Michael Jordan. Easily the best card in the game in my opinion besides maybe goat taytu,. His shot may be a tad slow on slow on very quick but just like my man @waynealan3067 it is all about muscle memory. Fran Wagner is a great card but his shot is SUPER QUICK and a lot of people have a hard time timing it. This game is more realistic than eve and you have to learn the strengths weaknesses of each card instead of using every card the same way like the endgame cards in 2k23 who all had 99 stats no matter of tall or how much they weighed they all moved at the same speed and people were using Tacko Fall for instance to dribble and shoot 3's because evey endgame card had the exact same animations.

Nothing to do with that, has everything to do with hitch, release height because taller players can jump the shot, sigs. MJ is better defender but he’s not even better than Paul George. Kelly has a really quick shot but he’s missing badges to make him a top top card.

This is a topic that I have thought *very deeply* about and I personally love that both you and @Jacob8762 are in this thread because to me you both perfectly represent each side of this conversation. I think the reality and answer lies somewhere in the middle, and I personally lean a little more towards the idea that ultimately release is a very subjective thing and at the end of the day it's very different categorically than everything else that represents a card. However, the Dwyane Wade video I posted is a perfect example that it is a real qualitative thing. I would say this from a more technical and analytical standpoint -- I think if I were to boil down everyone's notion about whether a release is "good or not" really just comes down to the release falling somewhere in the middle of the 2k player population bell curve of time invested to muscle memory and there genuinely are cards that are going to be easier to green with most of the population. But then you *also* have to acknowledge that there are people out there that like the Bill Walton/Franz Wagner release more than those "easy to green" cards. I hope this channel is a testament to get away from the "great metrics/stats/badges/build card has a bad release so this card is unusable" general 2K NPC thinking and be more nuanced and analytical about the card's real value. I have a way that I'm going to integrate and address this that will keep both camps of this issue happy (believe it or not), promise and stay tuned. Oh, and lastly thank you for the deep response -- it's the reason why I'm on platforms like this and not places like X anymore where every comment is engagement farming "this game is trash," etc. etc.

Franz has been in my lineup since day one, and I am definitely not a fan of the release. But I fundamentally understand the value of the card, and to your point, I eventually did get used to his release even though it's not my favorite! In fighting games you have to commit to memory move sets and timing, and 2K is no different in that regard -- everyone wants every player to have the same release.

@@synthbangers Franz is a placeholder, not a lot of people love the release like you suggest. They love that he’s 6’10 at SG and can shoot over people. The reason you don’t like the release is the load ups the game gives you when you shoot his shot, same with the AK card that’s been released. He’s a NMS dream because they aren’t having to buy Dr J or Bernard King who are better in pretty much every way

Kwame Brown (Steven A's favorite) is the only one I haven't tried out. I hyped up the Jeff Green pretty hard as one of the best value cards in the game. He's literally better than all of the Season 4 Pink Diamonds that have dropped.
