Marcell Ozuna s Complete Turnaround Continues to Carry Braves Offense
Very interesting episode tonight. I feel the window of opportunity is going to be open for several more years to say the least as they can still add every year to stay competitive. It's a top team now and should remain a top team for the foreseeable future. Thanks Jake for your opinions as always. GO BRAVES 2025 and beyond.
Jake i dont care about international signings. I dont care about these cast offs the Braves keep signing. All these other teams are signing big time players. Braves are losing key players. Alex has always said he wants to win. Well what he is showing is he doesnt.
Braves pitching development since rebuild is ass beside 2 college pitchers
Title window is nailed shut thanks to aa
RIP Bob Uecker
My 2028 roster C Sean Murphy 1b Matt Olson 2b Jose Perdomo SS John Gil 3b Austin Riley Lf Nick Montgomery Cf Michael Harris II Rf Ronald Acuna DH Drake Baldwin SP1 Spencer Schwellenbach SP2 Spencer Strider SP3 Jhancarlos Lara SP4 AJ Smith-Shawver SP5 JR Ritchie Closer Hurston Waldrep Setup herick Hernandez Setup Blake Burkhalter I think caminiti and Jeremy Reyes make debuts.
The Braves will finish third this year because they did not trade players who contract were up and was not going to signed with them. If you not going to sign Ozzie or re-up his contact it may be best to see what you can get for him. I also think it time to move on from Sean Murphy after this year. Please dont trade Drake Baldwin in the minors. You goung to need two outfielder in the near future with Ronald not going to sign for 100 million again. He going to command up to 200 to 300 million dollars. You need to move on from some of the players you know you not going to resign.
If the Braves don’t start getting more elite players the rest of the league will surpass the Braves! The Braves will finish 3rd this year.
I agree 💯
Pete Alonso for Braves starting left fielder 2025! If he really does hate the Mets maybe he'll come here and hit 70 bombs!
Jake, regarding your pronunciation, I believe you did muy bueno amigo. Love your work. I can’t wait until these young men are called up in 2029 or 2030. Those years sound crazy.
Cool idea for a video. Im interested in hearing this.
hi jake
Love this kid.
that's two pitchers we know of this winter the Braves have tried to add to the rotation, which shows they're not content with the pitching staff as is. With pitchers and catchers reporting soon in less than a month, gotta assume those signings will start to roll out. Reliever market is still loaded and Scott remains an option. Still have a few quality SPs they could add, including Flaherty, Monty, Cease if the price isn't too high.
Reports have been that Scott is looking for $20mil a year, that doesn't sound very appealing to me, and I have my doubts that the Braves would even entertain anything close to that for him.
@@MassBoost While I agree they wouldn't entertain 20m, I don't know how accurate that report was tbh. I do think they'd sign him for 15m assuming he is the closer in waiting.
@@acgonzales7 Considering that there's only like 4 relevers younger than he on the market, James Karinchak, Enyel De Los Santos, Genesis Cabrera, and Caleb Ferguson, I could see why the asking price could be high, or the reason that he's still on the market to this point. Hard to say though?
@@MassBoost a lot of the FA relievers are still available so I'm not sure what's going on with that market. But the longer Scott is available (or any pitcher for the matter) the more likely his price is to decrease.
@@acgonzales7 According to the free agent tracker, 167 of 266 free agent still lay unsigned, so only 99 have signed some form of major league or minor league contact. That 167 unsigned includes Roki Sasaki as well.
Well Jake, it's rinse and repeat with this team and Alex and the front office. Alex seemed to be GM of the year when the Braves won the World Series as he made some key moves and seemed to go for whatever it took to make the team even more of a contender. Since that time, he seems to have regressed or at least not really made a move that shows we are trying to win now. The penny pinching has gotten really old now as other teams are spending and going all out to not just compete, but to win a championship. And what have we done this winter? Lost Fried, Morton, Travis etc. and picked up a couple of roster fillers, no one at this point that can really be a difference maker in helping this team compete for a championship. But I guess if everyone is satisfied with just being competitive then it is what it is.
So getting guys like Chris Sale, Reynaldo Lopez, Joe Jimenez, Pierce Johnson, Kenley Jansen, Raisel Iglesias, Matt Olson, Sean Murphy, even bringing up Spencer Strider and Michael Harris aren't moves that show they're trying to win? Not sure how they're penny pinching if the team salary has gone up significantly every year since winning the World Series?
I loved King of Queens.
The Garrett Cooper signing seems to be a solid one. Though his offensive output over the last couple years hasn't been great, his .318 and .321 xwOBA over those last 2 years seems promising, as it gives you hope that he could still be an above average hitter. It gives the Braves a guy who could potentially fill an outfield spot in a pinch, and possibly be a solid 1st base backup should his hitting show back up.
@@MassBoost i like the move and adding depth isn't a bad thing
It's another solid depth move for a guy that you probably don't want to have to see because that means things have gone poorly.
If the remaining free agents aren't willing to sign for a bucket of bubble gum and a box of sunflower seeds, the Bravos won't be interested.
If the worth of a bucket of bubble gum and a box of sunflower seeds is around $45mil to $48mil, then sure.
That's on them. Who doesn't like sunflower seeds and bubble gum!.!
Too late to get the help we need to complete in the East!
They will compete in the East if they don't do anything.
Seems a little late , never heard of most of these players , just how much help could they be?
Did you hear of Reynaldo Lopez before last year? Because there was several people saying Lopez who, when they signed him.
Braves don't need more stars, they need depth.
You wanna spend money on Profar? In his 30s one good season under his belt. He won't duplicate that success. I hope they dont sign him. It'd be a disaster
I'd rather stick with Kelenic on the cheap and continue to go after pitching.
@docscards 100%
This isn't just a flash. He made legitimate changes. It would be worth it. Great in the clubhouse, wants to win and his best friends with Ozzie
@chrisbirdsall3285 if the price is right
That was my thought on him at the beginning of the offseason. But am hearing he made some actual swing changes last year that led to the success. Hoping that's the case and it's legit.
Honestly I’m tired of this cheap Braves !! The same happened in the 90 , too much talent and one WS , it will Happens the same . They don’t spend and now you need to spend to win
Been a Braves fan since Milwaukee days, but cancelled my subscription to MLB yesterday. At almost 80, I can't afford to waste my money. If the Braves won't spend, neither will I.
@@GRB-f4u Odd comment considering the Braves had the 6th highest payroll in baseball.
I think AA is spending, but trying to spend wisely to make sure this run lasts as long as possible.
Intriguing contract offer by ATL (Hoffman)
Yep. Makes me think they are trying to stay under the tax because the length helps do that.
Comment
Thanks!
Sign max and Yates and Jakob junies for the bullpen
Max Fried signed with the Yankees.
@MassBoost max scherzer
I know fried is with the Yankees sir
Yates will probably get a high AAV deal and I'm not sure the Braves want that because of the lux tax.
@@LockedOnBraves yeah only a thought lol
Herick imo will be the first to the show in his class. His future is the pen but he will get every chance to start. He can be a weapon out of the pen. His delivery has deception plus his stuff is good so it plays up. The injury risk is real with size/velo but dude shoves.
Yep. But you know the Braves are going to give him as long as possible to prove he's not a starter.
Ritchie has a higher ceiling. If the velocity gets back to 96+ on average he can be a solid 2 starter as the secondaries are good. Murphy, when he comes back, I expect a jump in velocity and if he can maintain command and control he can be a mid rotation guy. His secondaries are better but he has to be 94+ with the fb.
I agree with both guys there. The uptick in velo gives Ritchie a slightly higher ceiling (if he can get that velo back and maintain it).
My new free agent strategy… go sign Carlos Estevez, Kirby Yates, and Spencer Turnbull. Let the young guys get a crack in the first half at holding down the 5 spot in the rotation, expect the offense to improve, and have the best pen in the league. Turnbull can start too. You could probably get all 3 for somewhere around 20m.
Not Kirby Yates. NO.
@ who needs a guy with a 0.82 whip and a 1.17 era last year on a cheap 1 year deal.
I don't know if Carlos Estevez's strikeout rate is good enough for the Braves to want to take him? Also, are you claiming Turnbull should be a reliever? Because I would use him as a starter where he's more valuable, and his track record out of the pen hasn't been great to this point.
@@MassBoost turnbull or Gibson
No problem with the young guys in the rotation but still need to cover at least 340 innings in 2 spots
Too horse crap story
Um, what?
Another garbage off-season. Here's to remembering this when we don't make the playoffs, kinda like the trade deadline last year. We won't spend the money required to win. It sucks baseball has gotten to this point, but only the billionaire funded teams are going to win.
I still think this team makes the playoffs fairly easily if they have slightly better health than last year. The sport does seem to be in a weird spot with the Dodgers, Yankees, and Mets spending like nobody else can.
AA just sittin around doing nothing... heard we were gon get jeff hoffman from philly but he failed a physical... wtf is going on, why is he not improving the team
Because Hoffman failed a physical...
@LockedOnBraves yes im aware, thats what i said in my comment.. but even if hoffman went through thats it ?
The Braves inability to spend big is so frustrating. The days of being that “plucky team that gets more out of guys by paying less”. Is annoying. This is not a poor team, why do the Braves continue to operate that way?
Jake, where the two graded cards propped up behind you? Figure they’re some good ones. Still have a furcal signed/ framed/ authenticated picture I’d love to send you.
I have a 1957 Hank Aaron Topps photo and then a 2012 Andrelton Simmons Bowman Chrome auto. DM on X if you can.
Comment gang. Go bravos as always Jake thanks for all you do.
Thanks! Appreciate the support.
How do we submit questions to Jake for his mailbag episodes?
I'll post a message from @LockedOn_Braves on X on Friday mornings. Respond to that post with your question to be answered.
#1.MLB gave SOhtani special privilege's because of his Statue AND He played FOR the Dodgers!!!!!!!!!! and let's a "lowly" like Fletcher sit in purgatory!!! MLB sucks eggs!! IMHO!
Seems like the case.
When MHIII got hurt who played GREAT defense in CF...that's right! JK....He WILL have a good year in 2025............
Let's face it. The Braves aren't going to do anything this off season. It's clear
They'll do something significant. I HAVE TO BELIEVE!
We need innings from starters. Flaherty is the guy or someone who will throw 170 innings.
He's had some injury stuff too, but that's a risk with all pitchers.
Brendan Donovan!!
Looks like Cards might be trying to extend him and keep him.
Alex sign Brendan donovan
Kelenic was the Braves 2nd best hitter for the first 3 months of the season, hitting around .280. After that, he hit <.200. I think that he is like everyone else in the lineup: very streaky. He's a legitimate hitter against right handers, but someone should platoon for him when the opposition has a lefty starting.
I don't know if anybody else saw dansbys presser with the cubs when he first arrived.. he said ha wanted to go to Chicago because of his grandfather... don't know what that means but I don't think he was coming back to the braves..
I think he just said that because he wanted to make a connection. It was pretty wildly known he wanted to be a Braves for life and was willing to take less money to stay in Atlanta.
Tanner Scott, Montgomery and Profar or Ward is offseason list. I'm the same on Profar; didn't like him much to start the winter but I've warmed up to him, assuming its not 3/45m.
I'd love that offseason honestly. Again, assuming price on Profar isn't ridiculous.
Jake. Fletcher had info on Ohtani so MLB blackballed
I don't know, but crazy they've been radio silent on Fletcher.
@LockedOnBraves exactly 💯
I’m really inspired by how you approach every challenge. It’s not just about overcoming obstacles, but about how we learn and grow through them.
Let go braves 🎉
Jake McCarthy is an everyday guy. It's a shame he isnt consistently given that opportunity.
His splits aren't that different, so maybe you're right. I could see him being a light-hitting bottom of the order bat who can steal some bases and play great defense in CF every day.
Honestly baseball has a mental aspect to it I think when you see a big league guy struggle it's mental I think mostly because they are trying to hard the tools are there or he wouldn't have made it to big leagues even john smoltz had a shrink sit behind home plate wearing a red shirt so he could simply look at him my opinion if he's all you got throw him out there with no threat of removing him if you do make a move get your new guy then cut ties
Jake thank you for the podcast. I would just consider if free agent prices have gone up, and we see so far they have, there has to come a time that AA is realistic and set a new margin for those prices. There does come a time that the talent level comes down as some of the free agents go off the board. I know that there is a balance but are you willing to settle for lesser talent? The talent pool has shrunk although there are some good relievers out there. If there is a possibility for a trade for Montgomery if that doesn't happen soon then Montgomery is going to be in the same situation where he has a late spring training. I believe that Montgomery is a #3 but at times plays up as a #2. Thank you
The Braves are not passing the luxury tax threshold until the season starts. There's too much uncertainty and I think Jake will even agree that it makes more sense to make a big move when you are certain what you need, such as during the season before the trade deadline, then making a move right now when there's so much uncertainty about returning players from injury and players trying to return to a prime performance on this team.
I think it's a valid point. And I've said before, at some point AA is going to have to take a big risk to sign one of these top free agents or we're never going to get the top available talent.
Do You really think we need to sign big talent (right now)during this off season or wait for a little more clarity on the BIG need that gets you over the top? In season before the trade deadline seems to be the formula for ultimate success with AA right?
I have a question for anyone interested in answering. Braves all-time greats team. 22 players. 1 player at each position, 1 DH (bat only player, didn't have to be a DH when they played) 3 bench players any position, 5 starters, 5 relievers. Players didn't have to be career Braves, but judge them only on their time as braves. My example team would be C: Javy Lopez 1B: Freddie Freeman 2B: Ozzie Albies SS: Jeff Blauser 3B: Chipper Jones RF: Hank Aaron CF: Andruw Jones LF: Ronald Acuña Jr DH: Andrés Galerraga Bench: Eddie Mathews, Dale Murphy, Rafael Furcal SP: Maddux, Spahn, Neikro, Glavine, Avery* RP: Kimbrel, Smoltz, Wagner, Wohlers, Moylan *I chose Avery over Smoltz for starting pitchers because I was having a hard time coming up with 5 all-time great relief pitchers.
I like that list. I think mine would be the same except I'd put Furcal or Simba at SS.
