I know next to nothing about Darwin’s work, hence my desire to read it to broaden my perspective as a Christian. Personally I’m pretty undecided about how I reconcile Creationism with Darwinism, or if they can even be reconciled. Not sure if you’ll see this as it’s a pretty old video!

all hollywood wants to make is reboots remakes sequels prequels and stuff like that and they have brought stuff back from the 90's for like 20 plus years now and thats one of the biggest problems and they do not know how to make new good movie content and just go back to the past instead

Frankly, there’s so much woke coming out of Hollywood I don’t care anymore.The last film I saw at the cinema and paid 15€ for was Baywatch and it was so bad I left 40 min in. I returned to the Catholic Church from strict secular/agnostic then New Age, during the tenure of JP2. I barely had any consciousness of what he was doing or saying, every now and then I'd hear about World Youth Day or a visit to Fatima, but really, he was barely on my radar. I did learn that he, Ronald Reagan and Margaret Thatcher were instrumental in the fall of the Berlin wall and that Carl Bernstein, the Watergate book co-author gave the bulk of the credit to JP2 for that momentous event. (I used to watch C-SPAN).My focus was rarely on the Chair of Peter. Had I known that JP2 would be remembered as a rockstar, I may have paid more attention. My point is, it's possible to be a faithful Catholic without obsessing over what's occurring at the Vatican. However, I do understand with the dominance of social media as an information source, it's harder to maintain a healthy and respectful disinterest wrt the latest news from Rome.

Remember that corruption can hit even high level leaders of faith , your compass should always be: God the father first then Jesus Christ teachings , pray to God for guidance , keep yourself pure from sinful acts and God will help you see the truth . Also don't bother with details within faith , keep things simple with the simple teachings of Jesus . Details of faith are only suited for people with strong faith and who passed many tests ...and no offence but imo you are not in this category ( but you could be eventually ...depend on what path and choices you will make) .

I would appreciate if you'd avoid speaking in terms of left and right. I understand what you mean by "left-wing's message" and it's annoying. However, I consider myself a left-leaning person and certainly not a conservative. If an appropriate label were useful, I'd suggest "progressive". People who are progressive and on the left side of the political spectrum are not necessarily woke, which is what makes current failures at the box office. "Woke" refers to a certain form of extremism among people on the left, but it doesn't reflect what the majority of left-leaning or progressive persons think. To say the different religions are paths to the same God is not to say all those paths are equal. The 'traditionalists" who are deliberately distorting the Pope's words, to suit their own partisan agendas, need to go back to church documents such as Nostra Aetate and Lumem Gentium which explore the relationship between Catholicism and other religions, recognise the commonalities, and clearly express the reality that there are indeed elements of truth in all religions.

Thank you, Mr Maxson. Another great and helpful effort. Your distinctive combination of learning and gentleness always shines through. For me, as a cradle - albeit converted - Catholic man, religious and priest, I believe that Francis is truly the pope, that he is to be respected as a man, that much of what he says is true and that he is deserving of our prayers. However, as a teacher of church history, I have reached the conclusion, regretfully, that he is one of the worst popes ever and, as the late Cardinal Pell put it, his pontificate has been a catastrophe, whatever good it might have done. I do not refer to Francis' personal morality. He is not like the popes of the tenth and fifteenth centuries. There is no reason to doubt that he is a model of the rigtheous life. I refer rather to Francis' way and style of carrying out his unique office within the Church, an office of the utmost gravity and responsibility, an office that comes from God Himself as a gift to His Church. At this level the, the Pope is first and foremost a teacher, the most authoritative teacher in the Church. If you do not teach clearly, you do not teach. And this Pope does not teach clearly. In other words, he does not preach the full gospel of Christ, a serious defect in one who is called the Vicar of Christ. Maybe that one is among the titles he not like that title. It is not so much what he says as what he does not say. This happens time and time again. He comes out with some statement that he knows will be well received and applauded by the secular world, the mass media, liberal politicians, celebrities, etc, but he then fails to 'unpack' it, as it were, in a Catholic sense to bring out the full and balanced meaning in terms of the Christian faith and life. The Singapore incident was an excellent example of this. He stated that he thinks there are many paths to God, that interfaith dialogue is necessary and that there is great need for peaceful co-existence, general tolerance and mutual acceptance of creeds, philosophies and points of view. But he stopped there. He should have gone on to say that Catholics believe that the Christian faith is a unique and divinely inspired path to God because Christ is the only universal Redeemer and that the Catholic Church is the one true Church of that Christ. This combination of welcomed voice followed by an inappropriate strategic silence is seen repeatedly in Francis' tactics on a wide variety of issues - adultery, homsexuality, open borders, climate change, cultural divrsity.................. Francis publicises the "motherhood" statements of Christianity but disregards the hard sayings of Christ. Is He bedazzled by an obsession with popularity? Does he see himself as a celebrity who craves the acceptance of Holywood? Is he a narcissist? Are he and his collaborators working from some kind of preconceived plan or agenda? I wonder if he takes a self-consciously soft line on issues because he wants to let people know that he is distancing himself from his predecessors, those awful, judgmental, rigid popes with their excommunications and anathemas. Hence not wearing the mozetta when introducing himself to the people of Rome on the balcony at the time of his election, the choice of an unpapal (but not objectionable) name, moving out of the Apostolic Palace and into the Casa Santa Marta. If that is the case, it looks a bit too much like attracting attention to himself and suggesting that he is better than the popes who went before him. Furthermore, Francis is not a well-educated pope, he is not a cultivated man and seems to dislike Western civilisation. Either way, after ten years of it, I cannot help but come to the fearful suspicion that Francis' is committed in season and out to seizing every platform, occasion and platform at his disposal to spread scepticism and ambiguity among the faithful as to the received doctrine of the Church. It is a serious fear and not entirely without evidence. I hope I am wrong. God alone knows how and when it will all end.

This is something the media loves to feed upon. This business about Pope Francis is nothing new. There have been many "bad" Popes over the last 2,000 years, yet the Church has never been destroyed. Christ did say his Church would suffer great trials and persecutions on her earthly pilgrimage, and will only be perfected at the end of time. This is why the Church is the "Sinless One, made up of sinners." Many Christians say unless you believe that Christ died on the cross to forgive your sins and you believe in Christ as your personal saviour,, you will go to hell. What about all the people who belong to other religions and do not know Christ and his Gospel ? Do you think a loving God who created these people would send them to eternal punishment ? It is not their fault they were brought up in a particular religion that is not Christian . I believe they will be judged in a different way to Christianity. This might be what Pope Francis is trying to communicate.

Brought a lump to my throat and tears as I remember the pain caused by His Holiness' recent message. He "forgot" that Our Lord said He was the only Way. We respond by becoming saints. But we also defend Christ's teachings. "Extra ecclesia nulla salus," "...it means that all salvation comes from Christ the Head through the Church which is His Body." (Catechism of the Catholic Church paragraph 846) We should bring back our former zeal for the salvation of all who do not yet believe in Our Lord Jesus Christ.

The pope means well but is he catholic.? We urgently need a catholic pope with prophetic leadership and a gift for Kerygma Evangelism. Our pope recently confirmed his thinking that all religions lead to God etc. We should be nice and encourage them in their own religion and let them see our kindness. Realy? . I had my life threatened because I led muslums into catechumenate and on to baptisms. Should I rather have been nice and avoided evangelism??? -- Less baptisms but less people taking offence?? Jesus offended many and so much in the end there was violence. Faith comes through hearing the word of God. The Holy Spirit converts and convicts. It may be dangerous but we can do Kerygma Evangelism without being "aggressive" or not loving. Right?

Jesus' narrative of the Last Judgement is a powerful reason to admire pope Francis' statements. No religion in the Last Judgement, only certain deeds (even if you do not recognize Jesus in your neighbor). Religions are not equal, like cuisines. Some are (to some) more 'nutritional' than others. Christians should know that Jesus was/is aware of this.

I agree with you and am not overly critical, however why did Christ come and die for us and send out Apostles to convert the whole world? If you say ALL religions what about fake ones like Scientology? Satanism is recognized as a religion, does it bring you closer to God? He did say ALL religions that would include very weird things. In central and south america , millions leave the church for the evangelicals, etc. Here you are talking with a nice background music and in a comfortable room. The catholic church is in a very serious and grave crisis, do not try to sugar coat that fact. It starst at the top and goes down to people like you and me. Being honest and speaking the truth of the scriptures is required no matter who we have to put in evidence. Mr. Commentator. Saint Paul was not as nice as you. He was not as soft as you. He was a Saint that spoke directly without sugar and honey and music. He did not compromise with nobody, and he paid the ultimate price. Some christians today, do not want to face reality and treat the current crisis like puppies and chickens, softly and easy going. That is why the catholic church is a state of disgrace. It is being run by chickens and wolfs. It is being sold to the world.

In their time, the first Apostles were extremists. They suffered because of that. The higharchy of the catholic church, does not reflect or look like those martyrs and Apostles at all. Just subscribed. Appreciate your thoughtfulness, humility, charity and solid theology/Biblical understanding. In this spirit, hoping for a charitable answer from someone willing to think with me... no one seems to be talking about the interfaith audience the Pope was addressing in both cases. From my reading, Singapore in particular prides itself on interfaith relationships and dialogue. The Pope was asked to address a group of college students that was not predominantly Christian (forgive me if I'm mistaken). Even if he could have chosen his words better, was he being asked in these two contexts to explain Catholic Faith, or was he asked to encourage charitable interfaith dialogue? In his mind, I think this is what he was trying to do? The day before, the day after, in many other circumstances, he has been faithful to Catholic teaching. I just wonder why this isn’t part of our conversation? Hope to hear good, helpful thoughts! If not, blessings and peace. Praying for our beloved Church.

I getcha Roger, about not turning your channel into a Pope Francis commentator #4923... It's grifting, and grifting get's nothing except notoriety and with that perhaps money. Of course, those things aren't everything, but there is this Catholic attitude of faux unfelt gratuity- a fake smile almost like a party member praising Stalin for increasing chocolate rations from 40 grams to 30 gram(as it's a sin to be cynical)- that prevents people who subscribe to that mindset to not pursue what they want to. So if you want to be lowbrow, if that's where your heart pulls you, don't avoid it. Embrace it, because sooner or later it will reemerge in some form or other if left unexpressed. Now as for the Catholic cope, "Oh the saints of legacy past said the Greeks had a few good Godly ideas!" doesn't cut it. That's trying to take the square Catholicism and squish it into the round mold of perennialism. Even if Catholicism can enter the hole, it still doesn't fit- there is room around the sides. "Legacy" Catholicism doesn't fit into the current synodal approach, unless it's the path of willful blindness (the Catholic church can say the Earth is square, and even if claimed not to be inherently factually accurate you would be bound to believe it) which is the ultimate expression of humility and self sacrifice. To deny the obvious for God. But no, this isn't a situation like that, what the Pope has said and how he has acted gives the only logical teaching impression that he's preaching a new Gospel of universal inclusion. AND MAYBE HE CAN DO THAT ACTUALLY!!! Heck, we can have massive changes in Catholic theology and ritual practiced harshly and brutally condemned previous, then in less than a lifetime (20 years!!) become standard Catholic teaching and practice. But at that point my question is... what even is Catholicism?? What does it even mean to be a "Good Catholic". If I'm supposed to obey the Pope in that gay partnerships can be blessed and tactility approved in some "we're not perfect way" or "actually we understand more deeply now that it's the same as heterosexual unions via science" or the universalism of "all religions are willed by God and paths to him", I'll believe it my preferences damned! How does my revulsion to it matter much in the cosmic scope of creation? That's not the problem with Catholicism, the problem is that you are supposed to believe gaysex and universalism is OK and basically amazing WHILE ALSO believing it's a sin against creation and that Catholicism is the way, the truth, and the life. That total schizophrenia I take issue with, and it's leaving me deeply deeply confused. If anything, my intuition tells me Catholicism is no different than Anglicanism, except it made extra promises more difficult to keep. The current positions of Catholic teaching are merely superpositions held up by the 3rd world and Eastern Europe, who would reject the direction Rome really wants to move it for the sake of progressive yearning and prestige. And just how the Anglican church wants to hold on to what institutional influence it has in Africa, the Catholic Church wants to maintain and grow it's relevance and brainwashing influence in as many places as it can. Demographically European Catholicism is held up by 3rd world migration, not native Europeans. The future of Catholicism comes from the 3rd and 2nd world, not Europe. And so just like the Anglicans, who despite their intense longing to approve gay marriage, African just says "uh, lol no bro that's gross" and Canterbury just has to sit there and take it. Catholicism has the added complication in that it cannot logically change something universally condemned in the past and just move past it. That contradiction, if pressed by a few intellectuals (who actually exist in Eastern Europe) would tear Catholicism apart. So it's a waiting game for the Catholic Church, a frog in a pot while the temperature slowly rises. And Papa Francis from what it seems is simply and peacefully playing that game. They did it with the over 3000+ years (Yes, 3000 not 2000) ritual practice, they did it with something massive like freedom of religion (AND THEY DID THOSE IN LESS THAN 40 YEARS!!), I see no reason why they aren't going to do it again. And my issue is, if they can just change it now, what did it matter before? What was I? A brainwashed pion. A tool?? In less than 5 years a good Catholic would be taught to condemn freedom of religion, then shortly after taught to support it and PROMOTE IT. If the consistent through-line of Catholicism is obedience- not even divinely (and naturally) revealed truth- then how is Catholicism not just a system of control? Not truth. Just control... and us the puppets.

As a cradle Catholic, who is really and truly Catholic in my marrow, I am not in the habit of critiquing the Holy Father.

We live in a world in crisis. Humanity has a need for God, that is why human beings have been looking for God for ever. That is why we have many religions. Many gods. Gods created by humans in their own image. Then the proper thing is to put all this gods to be examined, to be analyzed. Why? Because we as created beings we were giving the capacity to think and to rationalize. When we examine this gods, many of them are eliminated by simple facts. The questions are simple: are they/ these gods, destructive? Do they worship war ? Do they offer human sacrifices? Are they violent? Many more questions should be asked. Then in the final tally we come to the conclusion that each god was or is created in the image of the people, the leader , the so called anointed one. One of those Gods today, in the west, has a name is Secularism. At this point we must use our capacity to think and come to conclusions. For one of these religions, God is presented as Father. He teaches love. He teaches forgiveness. He teaches second chances. He teaches personal sacrifice. He teaches personal peace, then universal peace as result of personal peace. These God is based on the natural law. Let’s look at the plants, let’s look at the animals. Let’s look at change of day and night. A sunset. An storm . He God created them . He is a Father. He is the only god, the rest is politics, make believe, it is grand standing. It is a deception. Let’s look God in humbleness and silence. He or she is there. Look, search and you will find.
