      He has a retirement visa. At the moment these are fairly easy to obtain for US citizens.

    • @mylatinescape

      This will make the process easier, however, the requirements for a retirement VISA for US citizens are generally not hard to meet.

    The lack of foreigners used to be true maybe 10-20 years ago. But nowadays, Colombia is full of foreigners, especially digital nomads in Medellin and Bogota. And in Medellin in particular, some people are starting to no like some of the foreigners because of gentrification and sex tourism, which made the "celebrity" thing wear off, and now it's become quite the opposite.

    • @mylatinescape
      @mylatinescape Місяць тому

      How you are received really depends on where you live and travel in Colombia. Unfortunately, as you already know, Medellin is becoming more unpleasant every day. Miles has lived here for over 25 years and he is talking from his experience.

    It is almost always the same. Stated low rent rate but when you look at apartments for rent there is nothing even remotely close to the low rent stated. Maybe the name of the apartment complex may help.

      Moving to a new country can be challenging! Aaron is an experienced expat who knows how to find good deals. Unlike in the US, you need to put in the effort to physically drive or walk around to find an affordable apartment. Additionally, you must have the necessary language, cultural skills, and connections that expats like us have developed over many years. Consider seeking the help of an expert like us or an expat friend when searching for a place.

As you might already know Colombia is also a very large and diverse county and, after all my years here, in many ways I'm still learning. All most Americans know about Colombia is impressions they got from "Narcos" on Netflix, without realizing that was in the 80's and early 90's. EVERY country on the planet has changed a lot from the general impressions people have based on the past. None more than in North America! Colombia has been great to me.

      Dear all. I am Swiss. Left Switzerland when I was 56. Two bags in my hand. Wanted to stay in Cartagena where I was several times before. I liked it but….. you do need a bit more money than elsewhere. After that I did buy a part of the Hostal Capurgana in Capurgana. Wow. That was something else. There is no road connection. You do have to take a boat or a charter flight. Since I am retired I do stay in Santa Marta. My wife and myself we still run the Hostal remotely. And go there quite often to see what’s going on. Feel free to ask any questions you do have. I do have now more time than before to support such issues.

Bienvenidos!
