Headbanger 2 0
A fully synthetic, matte finish variation of my popular Headbanger Sculpin. This variation utilizes some new materials by MFC and Aaron Letera that creates a minimal flash pattern with some nice color variegation as a result of the materials.

Mini Alter Ego
Переглядів 947Рік тому
In this video I demonstrate how to tie a mini version of my Alter Ego streamer. This particular version is most conducive to many trout anglers and one that has a very broad scope of applications. They key in this video demonstration hits on how to scale down the proportions to make a proper variation of an already productive pattern.
Trigger Caddis
Переглядів 1,3 тис.Рік тому
In this video we tie an unconventional caddis pattern that uses EP Trigger Point fibers in the wing. The flies construction is rather simple which is an attribute that is often overlooked in many of todays creations. Give the fish what they want, just make sure the proportions, size and color are correct. These are yet just another way to imitate an adult caddisfly in hopes of fooling the trout...
Alder Wet Fly
Переглядів 1,1 тис.Рік тому
In this video we tie the Alder Wet Fly, which is a winged wet fly in the traditional sense. A very simple 4 material pattern that is a great representation for caddis emergences. There are a couple of nifty little tricks in the video to help you while tying with the materials used. Couple things to note, first the manner in which I tie in the hen feather used. Clearly depicts that you can tie t...

Feather Tail Jig Fly
Переглядів 1,6 тис.Рік тому
In this video you learn the tying sequence for the feather tail jig. This type of pattern is not only quick to tie, but a highly effective baitfish imitation that can be fished in a multitude of disciplines; both with a fly rod and on conventional tackle. Have fun experimenting with color schemes and sizes. If you do not tie you can purchase these flies from me here: catching-shadows.mybigcomme...

Rock Candy Larva 2.0
Переглядів 1,2 тис.3 роки тому
The Rock Candy Larva pattern was a highly productive and very easy pattern that gained popularity when I spun these up well over a decade ago. Over time one of the main ingredients was removed from production. In this tying demonstration I give the viewers an alternative material to use to complete the pattern. Enjoy the video
Mophead Swinger

The trailer shanked, swing style variation of my Mophead streamer. This is an updated recipe with a couple different materials that will aid in the flies ability to shed water. Color schemes are endless and only limited by the tier.
Micro Headbanger sculpin
Переглядів 7 тис.3 роки тому
In this tying sequence, I demonstrate how to tie the smallest of the Headbanger Sculpin series; the micro headbanger. A relatively easy pattern recipe, but highly effective fly and one that even the most novice streamer fisherman can have confidence in casting and fishing. The color combinations are rather broad, but here I tie it in one of my favorite color schemes especially for the this part...

Small Articulated Headbanger
Переглядів 4,4 тис.4 роки тому
This video demonstrates the tying sequence for the smaller version of my Headbanger sculpin streamer. There are some finer points in the construction of this size that often get overlooked, and can drastically change the overall appearance and shape of the fly if neglected. Grab a beverage and tie along, drop your questions in the comments and enjoy.

Thanks man this is awesome! Hope to try some small ones for bream soon
Nice.... gonna tie some up tonight. I don't have the small masks but I can make a resin head look pretty decent. Thanks again Rich and thanks for taking the time to make these tutorials.

Nice tie Rich! Really like the new MFC teardrop beads. Who’s carrying them? Can’t seem to locate any. Are they out for sale yet ?
Yes they are, have your local shop order them up for you
Hi Rich. Really cool streamer and really long video. I did laugh when you said you talk too much, but that’s where the details are communicated. Thanks for teaching.
Nice going Rich! What size brush was that? Couldn't see the material list at the end of the video. Thank you. ❤
Craft Fur Brushes come in one size
@@RichStrolis thank yoy

I read somewhere that only 1% of trout eggs survive to adulthood. Im 100% on board with not fishing spawning trout
Good stuff, good info as always.

I watched 1 mins 45 and you just come across as a bald stuck up American prick tbh ! A bit arrogant 😅
Great pattern Rich .... now for me the chore of finding fox fur cause everyone is probably out of stock... FJB
Send an email if you strike out. I have quite a bit and dye it in house
@RichStrolis Surprisingly I found some pretty easily. Usually when I find a new pattern the materials are sold out lol. But thanks Rich I appreciate it.

I have your book .I really enjoyed the video. What's your favorite color combo ?
Typically grab a dark olive and black to start most days when fishing these. Then it goes from there. Many thanks and good luck out there
@RichStrolis when started tying and fishing flies many years ago it was you and Charlie meck I tried to fashion my game after
“Putting on the H.I.T.S?” Should be answered with a song and dance routine
That’s a great looking minnow pattern. Just curious, what’s the name of that material? I definitely want to try that one. Thanks.
Faux Hair its a 3 section twisted yarn.
Thanks. I’m going to look for some today.
It's definitely a cool looking fly Thanks for the video
This would be a great swung fly and much easier to cast than bunny! Thanks for sharing rich!
I use a magnifying light to put a barrier between me and fly try it
Hey Rich. Very nice streamer and adaptable to all kinds of target species. Been tying a long time and UA-caming for a little while and just found your channel. I’m subscribing because you remind me that I’m not the only one! This fly will be going in the box and the box with me to Belize. I’ll keep watching if you keep posting. Thanks.
Nice tie man
Do you ever tie these using ep fiber?
You obviously can, but for these I do not
Those will be great for some small mouth in white thanks for demo
basements are generally a cool place to tie flies bud. Good to see ya. Ken from Calgary Alberta ,Canada. Hay I look forward to all your videos.Rick so you have at least one viewer.😉I don't mind passing on a tip I learned on how to dry off CDC when your on the water. "Attach a sm. thin (1/8 " wide) rubber band to your vest .When your CDC gets wet/and it will, open the attached rubber band open ,put the hook end into the opening and pull the tipit (fly line) tightish. Then twang the elastic a couple of time (3-6) and unattached the hook ,blow on it and it's good to go. This really works well. I have a bunch of elastic in my vest. TIGHT LINES.
Good tip, basement was the only place left to build out a shop where I could conduct my fly tying business. Living in a household dominated by women it’s understandable I guess. Thanks for tuning in, and my apologies if the videos aren’t pumped out as frequently as others, but many other things come first. Be well
What size front hook you like for this size?
4, 6 or 8 depending on the brand and model
@@RichStrolis thanks- I’m planning to switch gears this year on an annual pre-spawn Brook trout trip and run some unweighted bugs. This fly will be the test model. Will report 👍🏼
@@kevinjozwiak5696 nothing to test it works. Just have fun tying it and fishing it
Hi rick ,I'm new to your channel and enjoy it immensely.I'm from Calgary Alberta Canada and in my city we can buy trigger point called rainbow ,and it's really cool. I've been tying for 55+ yrs. and I love this stuff.I use it on all my parapost flies.
Glad to see you posting , Rich . I enjoy your view on all things fishing , I like the rants also. Thanks for the in-depth tying and materials explanations , it’s amazing the different techniques each tyer brings to the table. Best wishes . John
That's a nice bass or larger trout minow looking good size no rants makes better videos thanks good in my box it's going
Very cool mini version of a great fly. Thanks for sharing 👍
Rich, absolutely love the technique of using the clip to separate the collar and spinning hair. Excellent way of cutting down on waste and saving time, absolute gold.
Glad it was helpful!
Great looking fly thanks for sharing
Nice easy tie . Thanks for sharing.
I think that you are Wright. I feel the same way about large mouth bass that are bedding up.thanks for sharing your thoughts about this. And your flies.
Love it.
This vidio explains the answers watching the soft hackle first questions i had
Is it me but the dubbing doesn't look dark brown? Or is it just the lighting
Get it wet and youll see….. if you’re not convinced, you might want to reference al caucci and Bob Nastase‘s book
Awesome pattern and material. I have a few colors tied for a upcoming trip to the Delaware and these will be money. I really like the spent caddis tied with the EP material for the wings as well. Deadly. Podcasts. There is a lot of regurgitation of previous content . Keep the rants coming! 😂 🍻
Hope you’re well Adrian, appreciate the feedback.
Got your book glad your doing videos love your work
Not a big fan of the rants, but hey, it is your forum. That's why they made fast forward, right?. Lots of great tying tips in here for pros and novice alike. Especially like how you used glue to create a "cone" with those butts to create flair. Simple tie, but professional results.
You can take your waste material from the rabbit strips and make dubbing or a small dubbing brush
Timely pattern Sir, keep the rants going . You are spot on about the podcasts .thanks for the pattern.
