Who Brought Single-Sort Recycling to Maine?
ecomaine did! Ours was the first single-sort recycling facility in Maine. The 20 communities that own ecomaine invested $3.7 million in a single-sort recycling system in 2006 and, since then, our recycling tonnage has grown every year. We now process approximately 40,000 tons of recyclables each year.
What Is Single-Sort?
Single-sort recycling means consumers place all household recyclables into one bin, separate from trash. This allows for recyclable paper, glass, metals cardboard, and rigid plastic containers labeled #1-7 to be thrown together in just one container.
Before ecomaine brought single-sort to Maine in 2007, each type of recyclable material needed to be sorted, stored and delivered in separate containers, which was time-consuming, costly and had a negative effect on the carbon footprint.
Because single-sort recycling is convenient, participation in recycling increases, and that’s not just good for the environment - it has financial benefits for our member communities too! Municipalities typically pay less for ecomaine’s recycling services compared to solid waste (trash) disposal. More importantly, diverting recyclable materials out of the waste stream prevents them from being stored in landfills forever.
Where Does It All Go?
Our recyclables all get turned into new products, but first, these mixed recyclables all need to be separated from each other and baled by type. Using a mix of mechanical, magnetic, high-tech optical sorting, and hand-sorting techniques, ecomaine is able to separate and bale mixed recyclables into several categories.
Once the paper, cardboard, metal, aluminum and rigid plastics have been baled by material type, ecomaine sells them on the open commodities market to be used in the manufacturing of new items. We keep the majority of our recyclables domestic to help limit our carbon footprint and support our own market. Like the stock market, the market prices for recyclables fluctuate based on supply and demand for the material. Prices are also affected by the amount of contamination (non-recyclable material) found in each shipment.
Therefore, it is important to the success of recycling that you recycle properly and buy products made from post-consumer recyclables. This creates demand for post-consumer recyclables and a circular economy.

Adobe Illustrator 3D Tutorial | How to Create Isometric Shapes and Grid
Переглядів 1613 місяці тому
Isometric art defies realistic perspective in the sense that it does not use a vanishing point system; instead, all lines fall onto a 30 degree grid. Objects are depicted as if they are viewed from a corner, rather than from one particular side. One reason we do this is because once you have created an object, it’ll look exactly the same anywhere you place it. WATCH MORE How to Draw using Pen T...

Hello Thressa
nice!
THANK YOY, VERY HELPFUL
You're welcome!
This is really helpful. thank you very much
You're very welcome!
How to change text into a path at once, for example 32 pages at once. With the aim of printing operators not being confused because they have to install the font first?
For example, in a similar case I can do it in Ai. Ctrl+A and Ctrl+Shift+O
Page numbers, columns, etc are not showing up- why?
What an amazing video. Thank you so much, Thressa!
Thank you! I'm so glad you liked it.
Wow Sahi hai sir❤
Hello Thressa, your videos are of excellent quality, highly educational, and concise. Please keep them coming.
Thank you so much!
Hello, I think your tutorial is really great, I would love to follow it. What keywords can I use to find this photo on Canva?
Thanks for the feedback! In Canva, under Elements, type in "fashion woman purse" and it should pop right up. It is in the paid "PRO" version. I think I used Canva's background remover feature as well. I wish I had now used a free photo for folks!
@@ThressaWillett Thank You:) found the photo!
Hi, What keywords can I use to find this photo on Canva? I think your tutorial is really great, I would love to follow it.
Damn! You just covered the essentials course in 12 minutes.
I'm probably not doing myself any favors with the UA-cam algorithm! I don't think they reward efficiency necessarily... lol.
9 mins, and you helped with practical book creation in a simple and efficient way, more so than some 3hr long vids I’ve seen
Oh I am so glad to hear that!
@@ThressaWillett your manner and instructions are clear, and you give enough time to keep up and allow me to scramble and find pause if needed. I’ve written a book and have no idea how to use Indesign. I’m trying to keep costs down, and I thought if I knew photoshop id understand Indesign, but I am finding it very hard. Your videos help a lot.
🤔 P r o m o S M
This is a good one👍
Thank you!!
Thanks for such a great tutorial! Everything is on point. Keep Up!
So glad you liked it!
Nice video. Thanks for sharing. you did an exceptional job of highlighting the squares as opposed to the rectangle which is the shape it takes when added to the one prior to it. On the rectangle generation, is the initial the only true square (all equal sides) when combined with the prior, and is this because the initial sequence is is 0,1,1? Why is the circulation counter-clockwise (to left) instead of the right? I really like what you did with the circles and I never saw anyone do that before. I hope I can find some more information on that aspect in particular.
Thanks for the feedback! To answer your questions: I guess I just tend to design counter clockwise, but this can be built in any direction. And yes, I built out the rectangle using the fibonacci sequence-the 1,1 representing the first 2 squares. Alternatively, you could build it out using phi (ϕ), but for me, that is more difficult. If you used phi, you would not have the two squares next to one another in the beginning. This is the major difference between the fibonacci sequence and golden ratio.
@@ThressaWillett Excellent. You should be a geometry professor! And from what I can tell, the spiral seems to expand in every direction but that first step (the direction you expand the first square) seems to impact the overall direction progression. I did not really realize that until I watched your video multiple times. There are many other things that are excellent about your post, but this was the most striking aspect to me.
Aww, thank you!
Thank you for an excellent lesson.
You are welcome!
Nice tutorial...but...I always wonder why people think there should be music playing in the background when they are trying to teach something.
Thanks for the feedback. I no longer include music in the background with my newer videos. I initially used it when I didn't have a quality microphone because it covered up background noise. But this is not necessary anymore, so I agree!
@@ThressaWillett Thanks for the response and for continuing with great videos.
The body text is not aligned to a baseline grid. Therefore, the baseline of the text on page 3 does not align with the baseline of the text on page 2. This is never the case in professionally produced magazines.
Thanks for your feedback.
amazing and clear tutorial. Very helpful. Thank you.
So glad it was helpful!
Very Helpful! thank you
So glad it was helpful!
This was a wonderful tutorial. I learned so much
So glad it was helpful!
This is really a helpful tutorial. You explained the procedures at a very elementary level which none of the other presenters do. But when you applied the rotation I didn’t see the spaceship spin/rotate. Did I miss something? Thanks!
Thanks for the feedback! Regarding rotation, I applied very minimal rotation, so the spaceship looks like it's leaning or tipping left or right as it turns. If I increased the rotation parameter, it would look like it is spinning.
@@ThressaWillettOh! The tilting is the rotation. Now I see. Thanks for replying!
How did you make the black background of the actual image disappear in 1:37
The fashion image I used had a transparent background. If you are referring to the black background you see when my cursor is loaded with the photo, right before I click and place it, I think that is because it's InDesign's way of indicating the background is transparent.
LOVE THE MUSIC❤
Thank you!!
Gotta say...dayum you're good! Being a voracious consumer of tutorials for 15 yrs, you are one of the best. Can't wait to use this knowledge.
That is encouraging, thank you!!!
Annoying music. Very good tute otherwise. Thanx.
Thanks for the feedback. Do you think it would be better with different background music, or no music at all?
@@ThressaWillett You're most welcome. I apologize for my curt-ness. I could have stated that better but that music was like fingernails on a chalkboard. Super ADHD over here. In this case, in my opinion, the music was too loud and competed with your voice instruction for attention. Sound is a HUGE part of video production. Music selection is paramount because it makes an impact on mood and emphasis. But in a tute, it shouldn't draw attention to itself. There have been studies done that suggest classical music is the most conducive to learning. Ha, Jaysus...I didn't mean for this to turn into an essay. In this vid, the music was just too loud and was trying to steal attention from your brilliance. Super good video. I got exactly what I need. Gave you a like & sub. Cheers!
Thanks for the insight! I might start nixing the music, but I agree that classical might be nice.
@@ThressaWillett No nixin' darlin...just lightly sprinkle.
@@ThressaWillett Oh...& btw, I can't wait to see what other design offers I can benefit from on your channel. It looks robust.
Killer tutorial and on point!
So glad you think so!
I’ve been trying to find a tutorial of how to cut out a shape inside of a shape, for example, the hole at the bottom of the hammer. How would I go about cutting out individual and separate shapes like that?
I actually show that in this video when I make the hole at the bottom of the hammer. Did you find that part confusing?
i have a question. i put together many templates. tried to make them all letter size but some are custom, 5A, etc. how to make each the same size without taking them a part. next time it seems easier to change each size first.
Hmmm. I think I need more information to fully understand your question. Are you not able to resize in the Document Setup section? I am referring to the Document Setup located under the File drop down navigation.
@@ThressaWillett I’ve tried but I noticed when apply master pages to all pages it still shows a few different sizes besides letter. Could really use your help. When I hit apply parent pages I see iPhone 8/7/6 V, Letter V 4, Custom V 2, A4 V 4, then all pages. I guess I could make a master page to choose each one at a time to find which pages are what because my idea was to bring templates together to change them all at the same time to what I want but have prebuilt different styles on all to make my own template. However you just broke down building this one page so good I am more confident to do at least that much from scratch now but still trying to salvage this. Also if you had a indesign magazine course I’d buy and help in some way I can even providing the platform.
Oh man, I wish I knew how to help you with this. With any luck, someone else will read this and know how to save you time. In this predicament, I would likely find myself re-creating from scratch. I don't have any established courses at this time, but perhaps soon. :)
Answered so many questions! Glad I found it.
Glad it was helpful!

Hello! Thanks! Couldn't you use Pathfinder to "cut away" the three white lines directly from the extended "T" bar instead? That what I was expecting.
Oh perhaps? I find that there are usually multiple ways to approach creation with the Adobe products.
Is there a way to print them or do you just sell them online as a ebook ?
You can do either! Save as a PDF and post online or use one of the many book printing websites out there. They are pretty affordable!
