Toronto's Gloucester G1 Subway Cars - Final Farewell Fan Trip
NOTE: This is a fan tape showing the days events and not a documentary. No narration or titles. Background audio only. This video features footage shot by Ray Neilson on Sept 30, 1990. As the TTC's G1 subway cars carried transit enthusiasts on a final farewell trip. The trip begins at Davisville subway station, and continues south to Lower Bay station. The trip then continues east, briefly stopping at Greenwood Yard. Followed by footage from Yonge subway station, and Kipling subway station. A final trip is made north toward Downsview station, before the trip finishes with some scenes of Davisville Yard. This video is stock footage, and meant as a fan tape. It is not edited, or narrated. Runtime is approx 66 minutes.

This bus joined the fleet in 1972. Bus 7523 was the first of a group of 30 buses, numbered 7523 - 7552. The last batch of T6H 5305 buses delivered to the TTC. This group was the last of the 3rd generation GM fishbowl buses. Older buses had black water bumpers and standee windows.     I never got to ride the 47 but I did ride the 23 end to end quite a few times. At one time it ran all the way to the Navy Yard. This was cut back to 10 Bigler in 1964. In its later years it was known as the African Queen because it traversed the North Philadelphia badlands.

    Mississauga's 1989 Orion Vs (8901 to 8925) were not just the first such buses to go into actual production, but they were also the first wheelchair accessible buses for the agency.

    Thank you for the upload. The 50 and 47 trolley were my favorite, Unfortunately the 47 was short lived service ended in 1969 but, the 50 lasted into late 1980 and I rode it to school and later work.

    I don't understand why SEPTA didn't save the surface streetcar routes. I Wish that they purchased 😪 former Torontos TTC Bombardier cars to run the surface routes.

    Three years after the documentary video was released, the tracks on Queens Quay were eventually extended to Exhibition and the 509 HARBOURFRONT was born in July 2000. Both routes have since operated with the current Flexity LRV streetcars from 2014. Me thinks the TTC should restore the Kingston Road streetcar line in Scarborough...

    My grandfather worked on trolly in Chicago, and when the buses came out, he crashed the bus parked bus at cta and quit and went work for the Chicago school system where he retired.

    My grandfather (an immigrant) worked for the Chicago Surface Lines from the 1920's to the 1950's. He designed this logo before he retired: The CTA Metropolitan Transit. I couldn't drag or copy and paste it here, but it's available on Google Images.

    I'm in absolute awe! This film shows the area a few blocks from my 50's home and high school with steam locomotives and the Rock Island RR in perfect clarity! This is astounding to me seeing something like this for the first time at 70 years old. Thanks so much!!!

    Clips at 4:13 and 7:06 appear to be making passes eastbound and westbound on Bloor over the Bloor Viaduct (back when there were still streetcar tracks on it). Very neat! 0:35 looks like clearing out Russell Carhouse yard 1:25 looks like Coxwell by the CN underpass. 10:00 may be doing Queen and Neville Loop 11:00 appears to be at Gerrard & Carlaw

    For those watching, the last of the NS&T trackage in Thorold and St. Catharines has become abandoned as of March 1st, 2024. Trillium Railway placed the red flag at the southern end of the Thorold Sub, meaning the only rail movements north of there are the CN Mainline

    Born in '51 , I've lived in Toronto all my life . Grew up in south Parkdale so the " KING Car " was a big part of my boyhood and I've always loved the old PCC's . Even as a boy I found them special and would pretend to drive one . Never new Mr. Borland but from these films I'd say we shared one love .

    The saddest thing in Niagara is, going around places where rail tracks use to be .I wish the TH&B passenger service between Buffalo,Fort Erie , Welland ,Smithville ,Hamilton and Toronto still existed .

    TTC really messed up scrapping the Gloucester. They should have kept a set,especially since it was the first subway.
