STEP 22 Gear - Reef Panel, Tenkile, Chameleon Carryall, Tiger Trove, Tenkile Grande
STEP 22 makes some great products. Over the past few years, I have been using the Tenkile, The Chameleon Carryall, and the Reef Panel. Most recently I picked up the Tenkile Grande and the Tiger Trove EDC Pouch. This is a quick overview showing my load-outs and use case for each one.

2007 Tacoma Off-road Build

I have always wanted to build a Toyota Tacoma but never had there resources till the last few years. I didn't know what I was getting into when I picked up this 2007 2nd Gen Tacoma with a 6-inch Bracket lift. But with some work, I have it driving pretty well. Thanks to @TAVLLC for the suspension work.

Atlas Packs Overview - Athlete & Adventure

The Atlas Packs are some amazing bags and loaded with features. In this video, we take a look at both the Athlete and the Adventure packs to help you decide which might be the right one for you. * Note, I made the mistake of referring to the pouches as the belt and not being removable. They are just pouches, and the full belt is the removable part. Just had the belt on my mind.

What drone do you have?
@@MCB_Native21 DJI Air 2S
Step 22 is such good stuff. I’m about to pick up a whole lot of it for my new build. Nice job man! And that things definitely looks perfect for a drone bag. You think it’ll fit the Mavic 3?
Thanks Homie, You can't go wrong with STEP 22
Any fixes if it won’t turn on?
is it charged? I have never had an issue
Hi! Have you found better alternative with the same weight as this backpack?
Nope, this has been my go to travel bag since I picked it up. I love the organization and durability.
Thanks buddy, I have been interested in this one for quite some time, but hearing about other people’s experiences with something that’s not cheap is a great way to feel confident about getting it! But, I shouldn’t worry about anything other than affording it because I have not regretted buying a SureFire before. I think sometimes it’s better to buy one, cry once! 😂 Especially when it’s a tool that it could get you killed if it stops working! Thanks again. Best wishes to you and your family. ✌️🇺🇸
Thanks for replying! Yes I am for sure a buy once, enjoy good gear for longer guy. I have never had an issue with this light or any Surefire light.
👍
Thanks but persons frame size isn't a problem cause it has adjustable harness plus it's not small in terms of length overall, it's tall ok, it's small capacity is due to depth and width
Thanks for your thoughts
Is the pocket clip on the Folsom ambidextrous?
It has a removable/reversible clip design.
Really appreciate this, Matt. Thank you for the good effort! 😎
12:31 - unbelievable... 😯 the most important zipper in a backpack, and this one is not waterproof... ☹ Thanks to you, I avoided making the wrong choice, thank you very much for this video.
thanks for the review, it was very informative, and you had almost convinced me until you mentioned the backpanel issue. That's a very bad design flaw and would drive me crazy.
How is this bag holding up today compared to other options? (Especially in terms of comfort) Do you still use it? I'm still trying to find the perfect camera backpack (like everyone else). I've tried the Shimoda 35l Explore V2 and Action X30 but for some reason Shimoda's harness system just doesn't work well for me and I find their bags very uncomfortable even after loads of adjustments. The Think Tank Urban Access 15 is much more comfortable but I find the layout limiting. The Fstop Shinn 80l is very comfortable for it's size and weight when used with the hip belt but it's far too big for most daily carry use. It's also hard to find bags with good depth to store larger lenses vertically like the Canon RF 70-200mm (5.75") and RF 28-70mm F2. The Compagnon 20l and 30l look great but are very expensive and hard to find much recent feedback on compared to other options.
Hey, thankyou for the questions. I do not use this bag anymore. I held onto it for a few more months past the review, but I keep going back to my Nya-evo. I find it interesting that the Shimoda is uncomfortable, as that was one of the bast harnesses that I have used. But to be honest when I head out and carry a lot of gear or have big lenses I grab my Nya-evo Fjord 60c (a close second for me was the Wandrd Fernweh, but I didn't like the cube access) I have reviews of both on www.carryology.com
@@mattritscher1930 thank you for the info! I have been looking at the NYA Evo too but wasn't sure if it'd be too big for daily carry. I was confused too about why the Shimoda bags were uncomfortable for me. I tried so many different adjustments, the S, M, and L for torso length, but no matter what the straps just left my shoulders/traps hurting after a short period. I'm very skinny/bony with visible collar bones so I'm wondering if the way their straps are designed (relatively thin and light) just doesn't work with my build. All of my other bags have much more substantially padded straps.
if you want to shoot me a message on ig I can help answer some questions its just @mattritscher @@bladerealm124
was a really good vid maybe when filming the car from the side zoom a bit out
How do you only have 74 views, insane cinematography
Shucks, Thank you.
Thanks for the thorough review. NYA-EVO doesn’t have enough photos and video on their own site to even closely convince me, but your review is super thorough. After a few years of use, what would you say is the biggest problem with the bag? Subscribed!
Hummm, Thats hard rto say as The 36 and 60C are my go to bags. For the 36 would say that at times the straps get in the way of opening and closing the camera area more than I would like. But there is really no way around that with any bag that has a rear open.
Why you shaking so much man?
Because my hands shake. Its a muscle fiber issue. Thank you.
@@mattritscher1930 that’s what I figured. Im sorry you have to deal with that

do you feel comfortable with the buckle straps? They say the shoulder straps are too short so the buckles stay on your chest instead of the armpit and it is not comfortable. can you tell us something? thanks for the video.
They’re memory card holders, not battery holders. Great review though - very thorough with good pacing. The best review of this product I’ve seen, for sure.
Thanks. I personally would never use that for memory cards and use that for go pro batteries. But The Nya-Evo team makes some great bags and I love them.

Very helpful video, Matt. I'm hiking now with ULA-Equipment and Gregory backpacks, but this one is now high on my list for upgrading. I wish some of your video switches from older to newer were a bit slower. Maybe it's my old age, but it felt somewhat jerky to me. Your content was TOP NOTCH.
Thank you. I have been working on some of my video skills to try and make these better. Thank you for the feedback
@@mattritscher1930 I have no video skills. I really appreciate your post.
@@bmwohl Well, no better time than now to start!
Does this have magnetic wireless charging? I have a iPhone 14 and it comes with MagSafe wireless charging. 🧲⚡️
Can it fit an 11-inch iPad Pro?😅
Thank you for the good overall review. I found it a bit of a struggle to install the large insert. Once installed, it works just fine, but it was enough of an effort that I'm inclined to permanently leave it in and not bother swapping it out with a medium insert sometimes. Do you use both L and M inserts?
Yeah. I switch out, but usually only if I’m taking it on an extended hike. I like the large and figure I can use the space for jackets or other things if needed. I have the 26 & 36. So I use those for other needs as well.
Thanks for this. I just picked up a used Aluminium one. Always nice to hear from someone who actually uses things 😊looking forward to selling my massive old Gitzo to pay for it lol Andy
Nice. The aluminium one has treated em very well.
where would you store a gimbal if you had one? great video!
I would probably put it in the front dropdown pocket.
Jesus... Please don't forget to breath. You're talking about a bag and not running a marathon.
Unfortunately, its so damn heavy!! I have the Athlete, and I would prefer the Adventure bag, but the design is so different, and I'm not a fan of it. Laptop compartment is useless and added weight not needed as my laptop doesn't even fit. Its way too padded, which is good, but its so much weight. Its 2-3x heavier than a normal hiking bag. The hip strap has expandable pockets, which is great, but it sucks as they are not removable, which makes using the hip pockets useless, as you cant use them.
Yeah, I agree. I dont use the adventure at all so I am selling it just have other options that I will use more.
Very good review. Thanks 500 price tag is a little abusive. I really wanted Athlete, but there is few things what make me think. 1) weight - as carry on is a bit heavy 2) side zippers are potential point of failure 3) ICU should be removable so is you could use inside backpacking bag if you need to I can't find one reason why I will buy this bag over let say F-stop AJNA 37L DuraDiamond 37L .
It is a bit heavy. I think for most people if they have a backpacking bag, they have a dedicated one. My go to bag is still the Nya-Evo Fjord 60c. Its an amazing bag.
IMO this bag carries better (more comfortable) than any of the fstop bags that I own or have previously owned. From my understanding after speaking with the company directly, the built in icu has a lot to do with that (something about greater structural integrity/rigidity). Whatever the reason, I will soon be selling my fstop tilopia duradiamond now that I've picked up this bag.
Do you know if I can put a PM sling instead of 1 cube? Or is too big?
very detailed review of the bag. thank you very much. i struggle between those two and the NYA-Evo Fjord 60C so your videos help a lot. Cheers from Austria
Thank you. They are both great bags. But personally my Go to is the Nya-Evo. TThat bag has everything and the 44-60 expandability is amazing./

I have the original Athlete pack and the side zip pocket is for a hydration bladder. I agree about all the floppy straps, that’s my only complaint too. Otherwise they are perfect.
Love your pack reviews. I don't see mentioned anything about a water reservoir/ hydration bladder. Of all of the packs you have tried, which are your top picks with dedicated spots for a bladder?
Hey Jackie. So most of the time I am not running a bladder. But pretty much all the packs have a space for them. The two bags I use the most are the Nya Evo Fjord series and they have a great system. The Wandrd Fernweh is amazing as well. My go to is the Fjord 60c and my most recent trip I ran a bladder and it worked so well

Excellent video on this bag

Shimoda Designs Explore v2 25L on sale for $280, but I love the look of this bag much more. Have you seen it go on sale at all? Not sure I really can justify the extra $100. Watch and wait? for this one? What are your thoughts? Also checking out WANDR PRYVK.
I would go with the Shimoda it is one of the most comfortable bags out there and the V2 is amazing
No luggage pass through on this bag. ?
Can the bag stand upright on its own similar to Shimoda Explorer V2?
Yep
Yes,
Nice video, I got a lot out of it. One note, the Unicorn was far from being the first collab. I think there were at least 6 before it including with Topo Designs, Trakke, and Alchemy Equipment
Yep, I meant first with MR. But thanks for watching!
He quite clearly said MR collaboration, but pedants will be pedants I suppose.
Cool editing on your video. I did two reviews on this pack but not as nice nice as yours. ua-cam.com/play/PLLHjhO7HKaERf-AubPLQzMg33nJFAu7h3.html
why are you so out breath?
Because I just did 26 miles
Excellent video man! It's being difficult for me because I do want this backpack, but ultimately I don't know if it's worth the investment over a long period of time.
The good thing is this bag will last for years. The downfall for me was that the camera cube is built in to the bag so you cannot run the bag alone if you really wanted to. But as far as build and quality. This one is amazing
@@mattritscher1930 it's also very expensive aha. Wait sorry, the camera cube is built into the bag? I'm confused because I've watched videos online of people removing the internal dividers for normal everyday gear unless I've watched the wrong video?
@@thegixlad27 the dividers come out. but the "cube" is attached. Unlike a bag where the cub and be changed in and out.
@@mattritscher1930 Ah okay. I understand it's attached, but I can still see people getting their gear in along with everyday carry on videos across UA-cam. I think it's more of a "buy the backpack in real life and see for yourself" type of situation. I actually might consider their slings instead, anyway thanks for your responses :)
Great video! I feel like however right now as of 2022 they're many alternatives to this peak design for example the ulanzi tripod or the upcoming Heipi Tripod.
I wasnt aware of the Heipi, looks very similar, but with some added features. Thanks for letting me know about that one!
hmmm i didnt realize how annoying it would be to take the laptop out. i really like the bag. but i think for my tech use cases...i would have preferred a separate laptop compartment. i honestly think these bags are hype. i get that they are cool. but....idk maybe just not 100% suited for tech use cases. great video. thanks for sharing.
a smaller laptop would be fine, but I have been using it for coffee shop work days and no issues but I do prefer my mission workshop brief for that

@@JJBonifacio yeah a MB 16inch. It’s tight. But it’s doable
Thanks for the video. I have the carbon fiber version. The tripod is great, but I switched the head for a Manfrotto video fluidhead.
thats a good idea, any reason why you didn't like the PD head?
@@mattritscher1930 for video it's not that great tbh. And all my other stuff uses a manfrotto plate. So it was an obvoius choice for me personally. However, it's now quite heavy haha

Thanks for the review. I'm actually thinking of getting this pack to put my fight gear (gloves, shinguards etc.) in the main compartment and office wear (blazer, pants, shoes etc.) in the segmented pockets. Do you think its a good idea? have been looking for a duffle that can hold all the items but split them up at the same time and this seems like it! Is there an option to add a shoulder strap as well? To use in duffle mode?
yeah, this bag is great for something like that. I love the versatility of it and being able to segment the dirty/clean or shoes/clothes.
For people on the taller side, the yoke can be adjusted. Its a great harness
