rare Jurassic Stephanoceras fossil prep
Переглядів 492Місяць тому
today I'm prepping the best Stephanoceras that I've found so far I've probably found around 10 of them but this is by far the best preserved one yet although the keel isn't as well preserved the front more than makes up for it and i think you might agree that the end result is pretty darn good
fossil hunt sandsend to runswick bay
Переглядів 978Місяць тому
on this adventure we hunt from sandsend all the way to runswick bay we had intended to climb back up at kettleness but it was fairly muddy and very slippery and certainly not a climb worth risking unless its dry this is a fair walk and u can get cut off at some of the points so be aware of tide times i did not get the pre done to add to this video

Hmm. Look up Wrens Nest fossils pdf. Should get you some id s. I think you have the brachiopod Atrypa, which is relatively common there. Laptaena? Another brach. The coral with the small chambers is most likely Favosites sp. Those are my uninformed guesses. There should be plenty of material online that should help.
Thanks I had a quick look for the pdf but not found it yet I'll look again though..thanks for the information
Good video ! What’s the latin name of the partial ammonite at 8 minutes, please ?
Lytoceras
Looking forward to that amaltheus prep. I think we definitely had a good explore and good to see you had a lyto neg quite early on as it gives us a good idea about how far to keep looking next time. I'm sure if we had gone frome Eype end we may not have gone all that far and missed some stuff but possibly there was more in the seaweedy rocks too
Definitely. We're going to give it another go in the near future from eype end ...
That drone footage was beautiful
Thanks. I think it is too
Lovely trip out and nice to meet up with you guys again!
Yes it was certainly action packed with finds for all of us. and we look forward to more hunts together in the future 👍
Love watching the Lyme Regis And Burton videos, great finds as well ❤
Thanks David 👍
Beautiful finds, ❤
Thanks 👍
Beautiful finds, well done 👏
Thanks. Another visit there just been filmed with another fossil hunter and some great finds. Coming very soon !!!
i enjoyed my first trip there :) i stayed at seaton and walked alone the coast from seaton to lyme regis found a lovely shell and came across a massive ammonite that someone attempted to get out the rock i picked it up and understood why they left it XD the biggest let down for me was the taxi fares sadly i burnt through my money pretty fast and didnt get to go east of lyme regis :( my next trip is gonna be either next month or march and im thinking yorkshire as the north is usually cheaper XD im gonna have to bite the bullet at some point and get a car
Well give me a shout when your coming to the area again see if we can meet up for a hunt if u want
@DJFossils that would be awesome 👌 thanks 😊 do you have a social media page?
We're on insta u can private message there
Always interesting to see Seatown beach ,changes quite a lot
@@davidthomas6859 i love the historic landslide! the fact it happened over 100 years ago and still the carnage is there for everyone to see just shows how massive it was :) geology is awesome
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤ Wish I was out fossil hunting. Loving this show from Birmingham Alabama USA
Many thanks ann. 😊 🤎
Please excuse my ignorane but what are devils toe nails??
It's never ignorance were all learning!!! They are graphea a type of fossil oyster
I’m hoping to go to that beach at some point this year. Apparently it looks to be very good for vertebrate fossils, even from early Cretaceous mammals (there is a mammal bed). But I believe a lot of the vertebrate fossils are further along the bay in younger strata.
Yes we needed to have gone further along really. I'm sure we will go back again sometime soon
@ yeah, maybe you’ll find some dinosaur, pterosaur, crocodile, and shark?
@ the Isle Of Wight is a very good place. I’ve found Iguanodon and Polacanthus remains there over the past few years. Still waiting on some theropod and sauropod yet though.
Question, why did you remove the outer broken section?
Because it looks awful and incomplete
@@DJFossils ah okay :) thanks for replying :) i will be on the Jurassic coast from the 13th to the 16th hunting :)
Hope u do well i will probably be out on 13th too. For info I always remove broken parts of an ammo if by doing so it makes a nice one. If I'd shown u that one without showing the removal of the partial piece. U would of thought it's complete and never known and that's how I want it to look in my collection 🙂
@@DJFossils awesome! this will be my first visit so going to visit some of the museums and historic sites too :) this weather has been great! have you had many slips or slides over the xmas period?
Unfortunately bar the west bay one which has all but gone now not any others that I'm aware of
Great pre and finish Dan,that 42 minutes went quick mesmerising to watch you work .Cheers mate HNY to you and Jackie 😊
Thanks David. Not so quick for me around 3 hours in total lol. I plan on doing lots more prep vids as I get a lot of requests for them !!! Hny to u 2
Fantastic Stephanoceras
Thanks 👍
That came out lovely nice work 👍👍
Thanks. I was a bit worried about the keel but it was not ss bad as I first thought 🙂
That steph is spot on!
Thanks Matt. 👍 I've got one of those nice fat chunky stephanoceras ones to do too but it's going to be a really tricky one...
Absolutely flipping stunning 😍 💛
Thanks 👍 I found that on Friday. Was a lucky find
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Thanks ann 🙂👍
Absolutely fantastic finds 😃😍,thank you for sharing your nolage and enthusiasm 🙏🌼
Your welcome we try our best .. and enjoy what we do
Totally understand, I'm only a amateur hunter along the jurassic coast of Dorset! Never loose the thrill of a find. 💛 Keep up your amazing work and please stay safe 🙏
Nice finds Dan and Jackie ,HNY to you both ❤
Found it . Fair play 👏👏👏
It was a hard one to get back off the beach.. a beast of an ammonite but worth the effort 👍
Cool to meet you there & discuss the Megalytoceras yesterday Dan .
Thanks 👍 yes always fun chatting about fossils and meeting fellow fossil hunters 🙂
Nice finds,lovely place,greez from switzerland 👌⛏⚒
Thanks 👍
Beautiful place 👍 nice 👌 much love from Australia ✌️
Yes it is a beautiful place. Thanks 👍 I bet Australia has some wonderful fossil hunting locations
Very cool, thank you from South Bend Indiana.
Thanks 👍 can u find fossils in your art of the world ?
@@DJFossils Some but not much. Northern Indiana is very good farm land.
Well some is better than none ... what can u find there?
@ corals mostly
Interesting out of the way place Dan ,looked hard work ,have you tried Writhlington near Radstock Somerset that’s good for plant material (Carboniferous)
Thanks david .. it wasn't too hard. We actually found it rather fun there. But some of the rocks are pretty hard to break !!! I haven't tried that one yet but deffo sounds interesting will certainly give it a visit in the future 👍
Perfect conditions there - havent seen that many rocks for ages!
Yes was a lot to look through !!! Kept us busy lol
Good video Dan ,interesting plaice the Holderness .Think that might be an Arnioceras you get a lot of multi blocks there 🤔
Yes it is an arnioceras .. we want to do more holderness locations in the future it was enjoyable
❤❤❤❤❤❤ look forward to seeing your videos!
Thanks ann
Great prep mate ,enjoyed watching the reveal from the rock watched all the video found it very relaxing.Cheers ❤️
I watch them myself too it certainly is relaxing to watch thanks david
Nice! Hopefully some of the other bits come out well
Thanks Matt. Will be working on some other bits too. Tried one of the 2 peros but it wasn't good in middle so hoping the 2nd one is !!
Nice to see the video - just spent 2 days up there with a friend and there is very little coming out at the moment. I think we did well considering the conditions!
Yes it was OK it seemed the same a other locations we went too aswell need some big tides to move everything about a bit I think 🤔
Interesting,a few nice finds there .Matt certainly knows his stuff alright good video cheers 👍
He certainly does. And I've already started some prep that jet rock dac is nice. Video coming up in near future
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
🙂
Interesting guys ,always nice to get a species you don’t have 👍
Yes it is I think we got a few over the trips we did
Please please please! Talk to your viewers about not taking out of the cliffs, twice this year I have seen a family with kids hammering on the cliffs, a ten your old died last year from a falling stone. This is going on all the time!
That is dedication!
Thanks 👍
Great video D&J some super finds can’t wait to see them prepared ❤
Thanks David. We've actually got back from Yorkshire too so loads of vids to upload and plenty of stuff to prep up. I will try to start getting a few prep vids done on some of the better bits soon 😀
@ Yes I saw the video when you were in Yorkshire with Fossiliferous
Yes we still have 2 videos of our hunts with him to put up
Wow that's one amazing day out fossiling - thanks for sharing
Your welcome. We certainly enjoyed it
Great hunt!
Thanks mate 👍
Great video, just found your channel thanks to Fossiliferous (Matt), enjoying your finds and knowledge 😀
I remember seeing the Stihl saw cutouts there and thinking similar to you, but, on reflection, I can’t really see how else you would effectively recover the specimen. 🤷♂️
I believe the use of power tools on sssi sites is forbidden without permission, but I'm unsure if this applies to fallen blocks or just bedrock / cliffs But u do have a slight point there. One one hand it's the only way to collect them but on the other should they be left in that case for everyone to see it's a real chicken n egg situation lol
Amazing video!! Thanks for sharing!!
Your welcome
Wow,some really nice finds that was really productive hunt mate ,if I’m ever at Seatown I’ll definitely be going towards the Beacon in future.❤
Yeah it was pretty good I was amazed at how much we found. Definitely going back over the winter period I think it will be great after a storm
❤❤❤❤❤❤
Thanks ann
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Thanks.
Wow that’s a lovely big piece of Calcite the other bits are super ,as a matter of interest what do the smaller ones sell for .Did you see that a mom at the top of the screen 🤔
I've seen others sell the small bits for 25 I'm going to do them for 20 incl posted I did see the ammonite the centre was completely rotted out unfortunately 😕
Nice hunt. Burton is always full of surprises
It is indeed 👍🙂
Wow a great couple of hunts there ,plenty of ammonites ❤❤
Yes was certainly lots of good bits. 👍
Love your content. I've always wanted to go fossil hunting. Guess I'll just keep buying mine on Amazon.😂😂😂😂😂❤❤ Wow is that place beautiful!!❤❤❤
Thanks Ann. I will be selling some of my finds in the future. If there is ever any particular ones u want a specimin of give me a private message on our Instagram (same name as youtube)
