In this week's class we'll be looking at just a few ways the plants can inspire us to show up in the world in a way that is truly beautiful. While many think of spiritual paths as being moral, sorcerous, animistic, and earth-centered paths tend to be ethical... what is fine in one situation may be wrong in another. The plants are exceptional teachers at how we can always strive to create beauty...

Thank you SO much for your words about Scott Cunninham!!! lol i feel so seen! He was literally the gateway into this world for so many of us and he toootally deserves more credit and appreciation than he gets. Bravo!!
@behnjamihn agreed.... what I wouldn't give to have been able to meet him!
Violet, rose, cypress, and a type of monstera. In Los Angeles here.
It was great to hear your story Josh
Thank you for this video. I SO needed this at this time. BIG GRIN !
Thank you!!! :)
American Beech, Black Walnut and Sugar Maple of the Eastern Great Lakes Lowland bio-region. The plants that grow at the step of my front door are exceptionally rare and exotic to a person on the other side of the Earth. The trees listed above are within the indigenous plant wisdom traditions of the Haudenosaunee Six Nations.
Love!!!
I’ve been looking for informative videos to send my young nieces as I’m not in the same country to share knowledge with them. This video is perfect, thanks!
to contribute to your question I work with a Bergamont descendant, called "Coyote Mint". The genus is Monardella, but specifically hyper local I work with Monardella odartissima, and Monardella sheltonii.
This is my path. Im not new to plants, and hyper local flora, but I want to learn occult herbalism. The genuis loci is relevant. I appreciate this topic.
I live in Devon, England and we get a lot of nettles, dandelions, mugwort, chamomile, yarrow, brambles of course, hawthorn, elder and meadowsweet which I love but also plants like ragwort, petty spurge, creeping buttercup, foxgloves and water hemlock are common so it’s good to know them to avoid those more toxic varieties.
Absolutely- no reason to eat them! We also get Myrtle Spurge where I live and I've been able to sit with them many times. They're actually quite invasive here, so I usually just honor them and ask them to move on :D
Amazing video 💚 I live in the West Country in England, and in September I'm moving to the Lake District up near the border to Scotland. I'm heading to University to study Woodland Ecology and Conservation. After spending some time getting to know the plants and trees in the area, I'm planning to spend each moon cycle getting to know an individual plant. I have four years to build relationships with those growing in the area, and I can't wait. I did fall into the trap of "collecting" herbs in jars where I currently live, but not actually spending the time to get to know them. So I've thanked them for their patience, released them to the compost pile, and I'm going to start completely fresh when I move. No more collecting, no more dusty jars. I'll be taking things slow, and building a relationship with one plant friend at a time 🌳🙂🌳 Thank you for your wonderful insights and all the work you do 💚
That's a big move and such a cool area of study- you're going to crush it! I think it's smart to have some of the good acute-supportive herbs on hand all the time, but I agree that having that personal connection is reallywhere the magic is. I'm not particularly close with Echinacea or Boneset, but I *always* have them on hand for cold and flu! Where I live (like you), we have four distinct seasons, as well. So- the plants are really only this side of the hedge for half the year or so. I think spending those growing seasons getting to know them, then harvesting them with love, and being able to work with them in the dark half of the year is so great!
I have this thought that I think I'm wrong that it's easier to connect when the plant is edible, as it's possible to make teas or food and by ingesting it you can feel the effects more. However, when the plant is not edible, what are the ways to connect? How to have a deep connection with the plant without having to ingest it?
A great resource for this is the folks teaching poison plant work (highly recommend the works of Coby Michael). Ultimately, ingesting the herb is definitely not necessary or even the best way to connect. Sitting with them as they grow is probably the 'loudest' way to we can work with them (and train ourselves to hear them in the beginning stages). Simply gazing and meditating on their forms, patterns, colors, etc. will often drop us into a communicative heart-link with them. In our community plant spirit journeys, we do non-ingested work all the time- right now we're sitting with Calendula and the medicine is an infused oil being applied to the skin. So, you have so mnay great options from gazing to breathing, topical to scent, etc.
Is it possible to connect with a common indoor plant like an alocasia and learn something from it?
All plants can communicate - potted or not :) In fact, most of the more immersive scientific research on the ways plant communicate has been done with potted plants... they're quite chatty!
I wanted to thank you for pursuing the path you have. Without you doing so, I doubt I would've found half of the knowledge you've shared. Which has changed my life/ perception in more ways than I can possibly know. So again, thank you very much. It's greatly appreciated :)
just found your channel and so enjoying your content. thank you for sharing.
Welcome! Thanks for being here.
Need more connection and comfort with the plant spirit world. :)
Does anyone have any pointers for finding community local to them? I would deeply love to be around other awake people, and share my sensitivity to plants and to the energetic plane. I'm located in SW Ohio, near the Indiana/Kentucky tristate area. Cheers and stay regulated 🩵✌️
A few ideas: Attend classes with any local herbalists or at herb shops- those are usually where plant folks will hang out! You could also look for any Pagan meet-ups, often even if you're not into the spiritual content, you can find people who are into plant work!
I've already signed up, I can't wait! I really hope I'll be able to join live.
Thank you! I'm so excited! I'll get links to the replay out that same day 🌿
Love the video. Just signed up for your class.
Yay! It's going to be a really magical one :)
This was lovely! Appreciate the titles for each section. It would be a great practice to work with a plant and over the course of several meditations, focus on one of the ways the plant embodies each aspect and how the practitioner can embody/reflect it as well.
I LOVE this idea! One virtue leading into the next, each building on one another and adding nuance and depth. Such a great idea (and maybe challenge!).
I've noticed while watching your videos that a lot of this info about plants translates to human people as well. I really appreciate all the food for thought that your teachings have brought to me :)
Lovely analysis and video!
I think peppers can really help you have more motivation in life, right? reduce laziness...
I think for some constitutions a little Cayenne fire could certainly help with the fire of motivation!
When you start working with a plant spirit, do you set an intention of what you want to achieve or learn?
Sometimes, especially if the work is more petionary in nature. Otherwise I tend to stay neutral and allow them to lead the way.
I usually have a trash bag and latex gloves in my bag at all times and when I have time or run into a particularly bad littering situation, I offer my service to thr land. I will definitely be trying your method.
Yes! I invitested in one of those extender grabbers for picking up trash and it was one of the best $20 I ever spent hahah! I've been keeping a 5 gallon bucket and my garbage grabber in the trunk, and always try to keep a bag in my fanny pack... it never ceases to amaze me what people will just throw on the ground- especially in wild spaces.
Appreciate the reminder to devote to the heart centered work and actively seek the quiet where we can.
Love the video brother! ❤😊
Appreciate it!
I like offering Miracle Grow Dirt to my familiars
Thank you! Very informative 🦋🌿🌼🌱🌳🍃🫎🐝
Glad it was helpful!
Best explanation of offerings I've heard. Thank you. Also, it was great to hear and see you today. Needed that. Been a hectic day. Needed to see you.
Glad we could connect here!
Thanks for this. I have never done a physical offering, I do always talk and sing to all my plants and gardens. I also thank them whenever I take a piece of them and let them know where they are going (tincture, essence, dried for future use etc)
That is definitely a lovely and effective way to reciprocate- love it! Physical offerings can really anchor things in the here-and-now, but certainly aren't required to show our love and appreciation :)

In our modern age it's so challenging for most people to be open to the wisdom of the plant world. If we can learn to hear, all the answers to all our questions can be found in Nature.
Well said!! This is all very poignant ❤
I'm here with the rest of you all ❤👏
À lot of same rules in Appalachian fólk magic. However most "gifted" people were farmers.
Interesting video!
Love this 💚🌳 thank you x
I appreciate all you do
Thanks so much!
I have a picture of the green realm. It’s floating in plain sight.
UK brands: Sons of Asgard and Star Child both do gorgeous loose blends!
Brilliant as always!
So much love to you for using your platform for voicing this aspect about radical inclusivity within herbal medicine! 💚🫶🐸 fellow queer green pagan, you do wicked things and I love your work x x and your presentation on the Green Man at BOC this year was fire 🔥! Let's make queer herbalist conventions happen! 🌈🌱✨ x x
Thank you so much! BOC is always suuuuch a good time- seriously one of the best gatherings of people anywhere- and easily the most diverse and inclusive!
@@TheGreenArte Truly 😌👌✨ BOC will def become a yearly tradition for me! x
Thank you so much for making this video: such an important message! I am gender queer and in a world that sometimes feels very hostile towards that, I feel such acceptance from the plants, who live unconstrained by cultural constructs and binaries. I had quite a tough winter in a new area here in the UK but when I went out for hedgerow walks I felt so held by the countryside and plants. Even though it was the dormant quiet time of the year I could feel their presence and knew I fitted in, in that context at least. Pet peeve of mine: people creating gendered plant characters as standard 😅
Thank you for sharing this!!! Yes- I definitely find myself her'ing and him'ing some plants- but always with an awareness that it's a convenience for me and not a reality for them!
@@TheGreenArte I do too for sure...it just gets a bit much when some people present it as a standard fact about a plant!
❤
Thank you so much for this absolutely awesome video 🪻 I run a vegan group online with about 55 thousand people in it. I posted a story for Pride month and I was truly shocked by the vicious, angry messages I received. With vegan being about justice and anti speciesism, I would have thought certain so called vegans would understand the damage done by "othering" to all beings everywhere. It really shook me, so thank you for this gentle space to remind me not to be afraid of sharing despite those challenged by bigotry. I will sit patiently with a tree and try not to rush... 😅🌿🌳
Unfortunately when you get 55k people in a room together, at least SOME of them will have to be very lost and confused :D I've always found it strange when fellow vegan folk are bigoted in any way as well... I just can't make the math work!
@@TheGreenArte that behaviour is definitely not vegan... 🌿
I never imagined this would happen to me, but let me tell you. I've been watching you for a while, I find it very interesting but I've never put it into practice for maybe just 2 or 3 days. There's a flower shop where I always buy plants and there was a ficus lyrata that always caught my attention, but I never wanted to buy it. After 8 months this same ficus had not been sold and I woke up deciding to buy it, now no joke, since I brought this ficus home my life has changed so much, I started meditating more, receiving telepathic communications from it and my mental health is so well now, something internally changed in me. I thought I was going crazy, but now I understand that everything has a spirit and many can influence it for good
We LOVE to hear it!!!
Thank you 💚 love your grounded, down to earth and authentic communication 🌿
That’s an excellent insight. Thank you sharing those patterns. Maybe it is time to release that term. I’ve loved it for years but agree it’s time to mutate. A more potential language …..mmmm…Robin Wall Kimmerer’s book first opened my eyes to having great respect for plants and the language used surrounding them. 💚💚
Fantastic book... cannot wait for her next one coming out later this year!
Love this ❤
sorry im new and i love your videos, i just wanted to ask if you have made a video on your tattoos/ if youre planning on making one. i think your tattoos are beautiful and id love to know how they personally relate to you, if not thats okay too, love ur videos josh youve given me a whole new light on Plant Spirits and Animism!! <3
Thanks so much. I haven't made a video on my tattoos yet... maybe I can work something in with an upcoming herb walk video :)
I've read a little about marshmallow and found it to be a fascinating plant. This video just added more interesting information. Thank you!
An amazing plant with so many great stories and virtues!
