And your voice sounds atrocious to me, because you could have looked at everything, and stated what you wanted done before, the next step was taken.. But, failure on their part, they must not have asked enough questions!! As a self contractor, I ask tons of questions, and give many more options.. If someone wasn’t happy with my work, they didn’t listen to the answers they gave me!! Ask questions and be involved!! Nobody has not been satisfied with my work, because we plan everything together, step by step, if it has to be that way! I’m doing custom work, for clients that have a picture in their head of what they want, I have to get that picture from them, and create it!! (No actual visual pictures are provided).. I talk with them, look at everything, question everything, and provide recommendations, and I expect them to do the same, before work starts!! That way we are on the same page, in every aspect of the work that needs done!
My experience has been you get a contractor you trust. And even then some things might not be done right, but at least a good contractor will fix their mistakes. Not only did this contractor hire unskilled and ignorant workers, he never looked at what they were doing himself.
Contrast this to the indignant hayseeds who come in and damage property when they feel they were not paid as agreed. So goes the incompetent and crooked contractors like this.

As a general contractor myself, I’m really sorry that you’re going through this I would never accept that work. I would file a complaint with your local register of contractors and go after his license. I would also hire an attorney and get some of your money back
You need a good foreman, independent of any hired subs,,that you feel you can trust,,that will not only protect your interests, but if you were lucky enough to find 4 good skillsmen that work together well,,and just keep it all in house,, paying each worker hourly,,you would come out way ahead,, but you have to buy diapers because in the beginning you will have to babysit at least 3 times a week
Who starts painting and putting in the finish before the drywalling is even complete? Jesus christ. This isn't even a handyman level. This is "i watched a few people do work and think I am a home renovator" type crap

I do not call myself a contractor by any means ( a cabinet maker for 35 + ) but I have done many renovations on my own homes and at least have some respect . It seems that no one watched over any of this . ( a big part of the problem) !!
I guarantee that these people who recorded this went low ball on their expenses. You get what you pay for. men that are very good at their work have no problem denying the work if the pay isn’t there
I want to feel bad but I was a contractor for 11 years, did home building for 23 years. I never had a single complaint or lawsuit but my price reflected my quality. I was fair both to myself and my customers, but when the economy started to go south, ppl would tell me there buddy Paco said he'd do the $3000 job I bid for $700. How'd that job turn out amigo? Probably something like this.

Others have made this comment but how did it get this far? As a homeowner if i hire a contractor we are doing at least once a week walkthroughs. Is this considered ready to turn over to owners by the contractor? Thats gonna be expensive to fix and finish properly.

It appears that the contractor was taking a lot of short cuts and was doing the work in the incorrect order. thats why the house is in a mess.
