The Cadets Drum and Bugle Corps. Complete brass warmup and brief sectional rehearsal outside the Alamodome. If you came here to hear chords/loud, skip to 5:20. If you ever wanted to know objectively whether a hornline is louder than a freight train, skip to 8:01. At 10:09, the "play each other's horns" brass feature is rehearsed at length. At 15:06, there are a few run throughs of the then-new ...

San Antonio!❤
Even beyond the staff, I love the crowds reactions. I miss this kind of drum corps.
How did they get to rehearse in there?
There was a BOA clinic that afternoon that we participated in. I guess as part of that deal, we got to rehearse inside for a while. Interestingly, the food truck was not allowed to operate so they bought us barbecue at the place across the street for dinner.
Wow, I always thought that the players who were crossing their hands over were not actually playing -- just a visual trick. (The reason I thought this is because not everyone crosses over to their neighbor's valves at the same time.) I was wrong!
And this is after months of practice with those god awful none bugle horns. Just despicable that two or three people were allowed to kill drum corps. Welcome to the first year of band corps.
You're right man, that is just crazy talk.
This is a great video to pop up in my recommendations
Matt Harloff on the brass stuff, fun fact
Thanks Sam for posting this..... Doesn't seem like 25 years ago.
Wow what a random find. I was at this show on this exact yardline. 98 cadets was a benchmark.
The mello line at 5:55 is just absolutely insane.
I spy Matt Harloff matriculated in the front of the horn line
RIP Bill Kellerman <3
at 4:50, the finals shows are four counts longer there, they added that THAT late? far out:)
Pardon my mouth but that was f'ing amazing. Sure the sound quality wasn't the best but to see, hear and feel the passion was phenominal! Brings me back!!
I love everything about 8:20 to 8:53. Kids, watch the reaction of the people in the stands. This is how drum corps used to be. #G bugles
In the future? Blue devil's? I don't understand...
What don't you understand?
Gino spent the previous decade as a brass instructor for BD. When he started The Cadets caption head gig, I think he brought a lot of the BD style warm ups.
This is the show where my son became “the flying cadet” Daniel Benton
were you in the corps this season?
Me? Yes.
@@SamuelSaunders You guys came to my high school in 98. I was so excited, I stayed up all night waiting, watched you guys practice all day and fell asleep before the first Corps went on :)
This is nuts
Great video. Down in front! Ha. Miss the G bugles.
Congratulations! from a battery clarity standpoint - your video camera has better sound quality than DCI's recordings from finals. I'm not kidding.
Name a better mello line. You can't.
They really were AMAZING! But, SCV 2018...
@@chrislinson6116 SCV was good, but the piece was written like that. I heard the piece before it was brought to the field. I just knew it had drum corps written all on it. I use to listen it quite often before it hit the field, now I don't. Anyways, I like how the Cadets in the 90s had great mellos licks, many of those licks come out of now where and surprise you. Alot of corps did back then. It's like the double tonguing of this era.
Some of the licks just blow my mind. The writing must have had the general effect judges on their feet, because it seems impossible to pull off and the performers did it.
1995 Cadets...no one played more notes
99 cadets mellos were better
Marching techs: If you keep this up, you could actually nail a perfect 10 in Finals! Finals: *10*
The build from 5:03 and delivery at 6:41 is absolutely unreal. The patience required from the audience pays off so well
I forgot Matt Harloff was on staff this year.
I miss drill like this...actually, I just miss drill.
You miss watching it. When you're in it, its more like, fff ffff fuuu ffuuu fuuu kkkk this.
Watching them work on playing each other's horns was incredible to see. Loved working with Gino in the early 2010's. It would be 12 years from this season until I got to meet Gino. One of the best in the business and I've learned so much from him.
Would you believe people were saying we faked it? I always thought that was pretty funny.
@@TheRailwayDrone yeah. Hahaha! I know when I was in high school, people said you guys faked it. But there was no way to fake it.
@@EvanYoungMusic Right! I used to sit on the bus after shows trying to figure out how we would be able to fake that.
Top tier horns.
This was a great show, saw it LIVE in North Dallas after a 5 year hiatus of missing out on live shows!
The Alamodome is a glorious venue when they push in those back seats. Thank you for sharing this video with us!!
I beg to differ, open stadiums really allow brass intonation to be heard, instead of just echo... thoughts
@@cicook7 I agree with you in general, I was just saying that the Alamodome is probably one of the better domed venues when they push the back seats in. Then again, it all sounds a mess nowadays with multiple synths and amplification in the front... The increase in horn line numbers don't make it any easier too.
Sully jumping up and down for the drill at the end is amazing.
Sully stealing my body wash is nearly as perfect as this marching performance
@@Corpus3414 You too?!? 🤣
1:59 ftw. Holy shit it's cool at ground level.
So glad to have been part of this sonorous hornline.
No Way. It sucks it was 22 years ago and not everyone had 4k phones on them all the time back then. That show is a cherished memory. That lives on In all viewers and marching fanatics alike. Be proud and happy for all the hard work you and the rest of your corps did
@@Newlolz989 I WISH we had all the technology back then that we have today. This show is worth a 4k video, GoPro, Drone shot, etc lol...,
@@TheRailwayDrone crying forever for this one my friend
This line grew a ton in the last 2 weeks. Have to admit .. this is pretty rough.
True, but their Ott is a testament to their growth!
@@KiranSundarkdog97 I actually don't think they should have gotten the ott. Their finals run is pretty rough. overblowing out of tune etc. still a good show tho. semis was ott worthy id say.
@@johnstone6764 I forget how judging conventions worked in 2000, but on average, I’d say the Cadets had the best hornline finals week, so the Ott was deserved on that basis imo (though I agree the Finals run was rough). I actually commented on another video that their 2001 hornline was better than 2000’s - I dare say THEY probably deserved the Ott even more than 2000, though I recognize the BD and Vanguard hornlines were very good that year.
@@KiranSundarkdog97 yeah I don't know what happened to us that day. When we left the field, we all knew something wasn't right. That entire night just felt "off."
@@TheRailwayDrone still got the medal 😀
Saktig, Sylvester, Gilligan-Martinez, Cesario ..... Hall of Fame of HOF group watching right there....
I LOVE the staff at the end going NUTS!!!!
ABSOLUTELY TIMELESS!!!
GAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH! I’ve been looking for a high cam shot of that drill move at 3:36 since I got home from ‘98 Orlando! Take me, Lord. Life is complete. 💀
first time i saw this show was in 01 or 02. never saw that drill move until now! it was really awesome, totally got my attention
One of the most underrated championship shows of all time.
One of my favorite ballads.
@@itwasbetterwithhats820 Their finals night run was pretty sloppy, especially in the guard, lots of drops.
The dynamics between the scissors are pristine
Well, this is pretty damn awesome. Does anyone know how far along in the season this was?
This is the day of DCI East
Looks like someone on staff took the video - who was it??
Superfan took this video.
What a visual program!!! OMG! Brass and drums rock, and that guard is Fantastic! This is top-tier design to the T. Cadets!!!
Is that April at 3:42?
Yes. Lol
Matt Stryker She hugs Mike Cesario at the end.
Shes my favourite person to watch, watch drum corps. The best of us teachers are fans through and through. That's why we do it.
I'm surprised how happy she is during this show. The guard has good moments but there are extended phrases in the flag book (especially the yellow flags and the purple and neon green ones) that are nowhere near the cleanliness standard Cadets set in the first half of the 90's.
Look at this show compared to 2019 Cadets. This is what you call World Class!
2021 will be more like this than 2019 imo
@@georgedixon9863 I hope so. Miss the old cadets. Id love to see some 80s and 90s cadets
I. Love. This. Show. It got me hooked on drum corps!
