John's Yard Sale Finds
United States
Приєднався 4 кві 2011
Hi! I'm John, and I'm glad you're here. I've been an eBay reseller since January 1999, but have been buying and selling for a LOT longer than that (since the early 1980s)! On this channel, I share our yard sale finds and the results of my research on potential saleability. We buy in a lot of different categories, including books, film & vinyl media (8mm & 16mm film, 35mm slides, 33rpm & 78rpm vinyl - you'll see some examples here on the channel), ephemera, and a whole lot more. These days I mainly buy stuff to resell on eBay, but I also buy to resell at live auction and flea markets as well. I upload actual results of different auctions and sales when I can. Please subscribe to my channel and join me for the ride! Thank you! We appreciate every one of you.
Yard Sale Buying with Flea Market and eBay Sales in Mind PLUS 1995 Blast from John's Past!
So, we can't keep away from the yard sales! These are our first yard sale finds of the winter season! We are buying with the intention of selling a lot of this at the flea market this winter, along with some higher end stuff for eBay.
You'll see what I mean in the video - and stay with us for a blast from the past (1995!), where we show how I used one of the machines that I'm selling.
Also, you'll see what our friend Rafa (aka "Early Bird Picker") helped us with in this! Rafa's channel is: www.youtube.com/@UCtvasWpJklp_KPQ-Ll3a--A THANK YOU, Rafa! You were a great help!
As always, we invite you to subscribe to our channel and watch our videos if you find our content helpful. We appreciate you!

Hi everyone! This summer there were very few yard sales up north in our neck of the woods, and that - coupled with my heavy carpentry schedule meant that we simply didn't get out much. But with my customers up in the mountains for the Labor Day weekend and using their summer cottages for their own mini vacations, that meant I was also able to take a little time off since I don't like to be hamm...

Back at it and great pick ups!! Thanks for sharing your strategies 🎉🎉
Thanks so much Esme! It feels good to be back. I know we said we're going to concentrate on selling, but the lure of the hunt is tough to resist! 😂😂
Great to see John on the screen again!
More is coming, Steve! And thanks so much for following us. We definitely appreciate it.
Welcome back!!!
Thanks Sherrie! We looked for you when we went over to the flea market that Saturday after Thanksgiving, but didn't see you. Look forward to catching up soon!
Love the videos! I’ve been binge watching!!! I’m a book reseller and hope to see more books 📚📚. Enjoy the BOLOs as well!
Thanks so much for your kind comment! Yes, we'll be showing more books that we sell. If you go through our video list, and then in the "Search" window - type "books" and that should bring you to some of our more book-oriented videos. We'll be featuring even more. Actually, if you check out this video that we did earlier this year, which was specifically about books, it may be helpful for you: ua-cam.com/video/XRLi7UHmLYY/v-deo.html It was about what types of books we have found to sell well on eBay. Again, thank you for your comment, and for your encouragement! :)
Thanks for sharing. That is what I'm working on a lot. What to take to the flea market and what to just sell online.
Hi Carl, so glad you found our videos. We'll be going through how we decide which is which (i.e. eBay vs Flea Market). If you look in the description below this video, I put some links to older Flea Market videos (from last year). They may be helpful. In the meantime, we'll definitely be showing more as we sort through the inventory over the next month or so. Stay tuned, and thanks so much for watching! We appreciate your input!
This sounds like a great retirement hobby business, thanks for the info.
Thanks so much! It's really a hobby gone awry! We have fun with it! Glad you are enjoying the info!
I have watched many video's and I don't have this feature.
Hi, are you saying that you can't find this feature on eBay? Do you have an eBay Store Subscription? I have the very basic one, at $21.95/month. Not sure if you need a subscription or not, but that could be one reason why you don't see it. For me, it shows up on the page when I go to "Listings," and if I click on "Active," it's on that page. I hope that helps.
@@JohnsYardSaleFinds I don't pay for an eBay sub. so I guess I don't have that feature. I have been using eBay for over 25 years and it has slowly gone down hill for the common person that just wants to sell there stuff, it's good for buying stuff but not selling.
This find just keeps on giving!
It definitely keeps on giving! It's hard to believe it's almost a year (Last Feb) since we were invited to this sale. We're grateful it's still looking good, with more to process. Back in FL for the winter, so more is coming. Thanks so much, Michele, for continuing to watch! We appreciate you!
Looking good! nice to watch the numbers mount!
Thanks Michael! We're tracking sales from this haul from all venues - Heritage, eBay, etc. We'll keep updating as we work through it.
This was sooooo exciting to watch!! I’m so happy for you two!! 🚀🚀🚀
Thank you so much Esme! It was exciting for us too! We'll keep you up to date on the rest of this haul - we just got back to FL, so we have a lot of selling to do! :)
OMGoodness thank god I found this I’ve been looking for a step by step Ty soo much
I'm glad you found this helpful! And you are most welcome! Thank you for watching, and for your nice comment. Best of luck on your sale!
Hello. I've been selling books/media on Amazon FBA for nine years, but am highly thinking of transitioning over to eBay; never sold anything on eBay before. Between the horrible FBA fees, ever-increasing restrictions, and the ton of time you often have to wait for your inventory to even be available for sale, I'm getting tired of the Amazon game. I want to start eBay with some books because it's the only category I'm really familiar with, but also to expand to a few other categories as time goes by. I love these kinds of books that you're showing. I can tell you that I know there's several of them I'd still be restricted from selling on Amazon even though I've been at it for nine years and have a 100% feedback rating. I admit though that eBay is very intimidating, as I've never had to deal with any kind of shipping choices, customer interaction, etc., as FBA has always handled all that stuff on their end. And so, I want to start but don't want to make any disastrous eBay mistakes in the process.
Hi, thanks so much for that in-depth insight into FBA. We decided not to go that route, and we've been selling on eBay for 25 years now, so for us it's not intimidating at all. I would say, just start slow and make sure you have adequate packing materials for the items you're offering (chasing the right box can be time consuming!). But you can order book boxes in bulk. I generally have 2-3 different sizes, plus whatever padding material I can scrounge (plastic bags, bubble wrap etc.). I also buy packing peanuts; they're relatively expensive but very convenient. We have what we call "the box farm" because we ship so many different things. Whenever we see a "good box" we add it to the farm. Again, just start slow. There are a bunch of tutorials on eBay. If your descriptions are accurate, you should have little trouble with the customers. Just take good pictures and describe the item well. Good luck!
Thanks so much!
@@GoldAndSilver988 Check back in after you get started on eBay and let us know how it's going. Remember - start slow! :)
Thanks
Glad you found this helpful! Thank you so much for watching!
I only want my sent offers to be good for 48 hours and eBay is giving them 4 days. How do I fix that?
Hmmm, when we last sent offers, I'm pretty sure that the offer was automatically only good for 48 hours. Are you sending bulk offers? If so, take a look at this info from eBay where they do say: "Offers will be sent to the 30 most recent interested buyers (people watching your items or who have added your items to their cart). Each offer is valid for 96 hours or until the listing is sold, whichever comes first. With a single item listing, the first buyer to accept and successfully complete payment gets the deal. With a multiple quantity listing, buyers can continue to use the offer until all items in the listing are sold or the offer expires." (source = www.ebay.com/help/selling/listings/selling-buy-now/adding-best-offer-listing?id=4144 ) Right now our store is on vacation since I'm out of town working for another month, so I can't go in and experiment with this until I get home. You may have to end it manually. I wish we could help you further. Good luck, and if you discover anything new, please let us know.
This was pretty awesome to see. I love your proactive approach, looking to continually develop strategies to get better and sell more. I’m a big toy and card collector so this was very insightful for me. Cheers!
Thanks so much for the kind words and encouragement! We've decided to do more flea markets this coming season once we're back in Florida for the winter (I'm still up in New Hampshire for my carpentry season). We going to try a few different strategies this time, and will definitely be filming it and sharing the results. We're going to be working on selling a lot of our inventory and the flea market will be a big part of that, so please stay tuned. Again, we really appreciate your comment and support.
@@JohnsYardSaleFinds Can't wait to see it! I only hope for the best!
@@merlinparache1681 So do we! It will be different, that's for sure. No matter what, we'll get rid of some inventory.
Awesome, and keep uploading more videos thanks❤❤❤
Thank you so much! And yes, we will be uploading more videos soon! I've been in the middle of a very busy carpentry season this summer, and just didn't get out much. But we'll be back soon. We do have another update coming soon from the latest NASA auction results from Heritage Auction that Kath (my wife) is editing. We very much appreciate your comment and encouragement. Thank you!
Great video I’ll look for these types of books why the Amazon scanner people are mindlessly scanning
We're glad you found this info helpful, William! We get it why a lot of people use the scanning, but it's not for us. Thank you so much for watching and for your kind comment! We very much appreciate it!😊
I was t aware Lodge is starting to come into its own. I see a lot of Lodge but pass it up looking for Wagner 🫠 Love “get paid to own these!” 😍
I love that fishing vest that belonged to the guide! 😮😮👍💯 free styling is tough but I agree you did really well 💯💯 I also like “making money by saving money” 😜
Hi Esme! We were pretty psyched to find out about that fishing vest. We didn't get his name unfortunately. But, still, it should have some value to a collector (we hope!). Haha - that's definitely one of my mantras, "Making money by saving money" and "How much we got paid to own this!" Thank you so much for watching!
Thank you, that was good.
Thank you so much, Sandra! We're so happy that you found this helpful! We appreciate you watching, and your kind feedback. 😊😊
Beautiful scenery, great sales and 2 of my favorite flea friends. Have to say that I LOVED the loom!!!! Looking forward to seeing you two when you get back to Florida😎
Thanks so much Sherrie! The loom was really nice, but we just couldn't learn enough about it to spring for the $100. And yes, the scenery is amazing. We are looking forward to seeing you soon! Are you still setting up in Port Orange?
@@JohnsYardSaleFinds Totally understand leaving the loom. I thought it would be a great decor piece if nothing else.😍 I've been taking time off - the heat and humidity have been oppressive, and my AC is so nice at home! It's getting better now and hoping to be back in a few weeks. Safe travels coming south and see you when you get here!
@@sherrielorraine7931 I get it about the heat. We had a short spell of serious heat up here (and no AC), but it's been really nice for the last couple of months. We'll see you soon!
That LLBean sale was pretty neat!
Thanks! We were glad it was worth the 7 1/2 miles of backtracking! It will be interesting to see what we get for the Maine Guide's fishing vest and some of those duck calls. We'll have a lot of listings to get done once we're back in Florida for the winter! As always, we appreciate you watching and commenting!
I feel like a missed a video - I don't remember seeing you find these? My grandfather worked for one of the companies (Rockwell I think) that built the capsule and connecting ..tube or tunnel for lack of a better word...for the Apollo missions. I remember seeing a picture of him posing/crawling through the 'tube' that would later connect the LEM with the capsule. Very nice sales!
Thanks Michele! That's really cool about your grandfather working on the Apollo missions! Would be great if you had that photo of him! So, this haul took us a couple of months to sort through, and once we're back in FL, we'll still be working on it! Here is the video where we found the haul: ua-cam.com/video/FFv3Mp0WK3o/v-deo.html As always, we appreciate you watching!
@@JohnsYardSaleFinds I'm not sure where that photo went after my grandparent's passed away, but I'm keeping my eye out for it. Mom may have a copy floating around her house full of mementos! I'll backtrack and watch that video too. Thank you!
@@LMicheleS So we have some Rockwell/NASA related stuff. Don't remember what's in there at all, but will be looking closer at it when we get back. What was his name? Or if you're uncomfortable naming names here, go to the Facebook page and message us. If we find his name we'll let you know. What years was he active?
@@JohnsYardSaleFinds NM, I think I found it. :)
2k wow. Good luck with those other items. Where did you guys get this stuff from?
Hi Segun! So far so good! We were called to an estate cleanout in February - actually, we did a video that talks about the whole thing, and the types of stuff we got in that NASA haul (this is the first video that talk about it: ua-cam.com/video/FFv3Mp0WK3o/v-deo.html ). It was pretty exciting! The next auction at Heritage is underway for online/proxy bidding, and the live internet auction will be on 9/28. Here is the link that shows what they're selling next: historical.ha.com/c/search/results.zx?dept=2541&mode=live&auction_name=33164&consignor_no=13&type=friend-consignorlive-notice Thanks so much for watching, and for your good wishes. Nice!!! People should flag your video for research purposes 💯💯
Thank you so much, Esme! That's really nice of you to say - we did spend a LOT of time researching and learning. We very much appreciate your lovely comment, and for watching our content! That helps keep us going! :)
Wow! That was a super cool and profitable space lot that you two picked!👍
Thank you! We're going to be psyched to see the next one! If you look in the video description, we put a link to the next auction if you want to see a sneak peek! We still have a house-full of stuff that we need to figure out how to sell. But it's a fun lot! Thank you so much for watching and commenting; we very much appreciate you!
Check the video description for a number of resource links in case you want to learn more about how we identified the items we have. We were quite pleased with these initial sales, and look forward to reporting on the next lot we have at Heritage Auctions! We appreciate you watching!
Thinking about getting a spot for all my things I’ve been saving up, 1,3,10 good set up 👌🏽 Thanks for the video it helped
We're glad it helped! Yes, pricing like this really simplifies things. In other markets we've done $1, $5, $10, and as marked - we have a few other videos on this! One thing we've discovered is that no matter how many tables we rent, it always seems like there isn't enough room for all this stuff! Thanks so much for watching, and for commenting. We really appreciate it! Good luck on your sale!
spot value is Troy oz's not ounces
Hi! This came up before in a comment about a year ago, and before then it had never really occurred to me to think in troy ounces since for the most part we're just hoarding it (except for certain pieces that are likely to sell for more than spot value). But you bring up a good point. Turns out our scale doesn't have a troy oz setting. So we'll have to just estimate for now. We do appreciate your comment and pointing it out so hopefully others will also see it. Thanks so much for watching, and for your comment! Again, we appreciate it!
This stuff is pretty wild! 11:28
Hi Tyler! Thanks so much for your support! Oh, yeah, it's definitely pretty wild! So far, we've sold a few of those photos, but the others will be featured in the September auction! The one 2nd down from the top - far right column - was the one that sold for $1600! We'll do an update video soon! (BTW: Just subscribed to your hiking channel! Looking good!)
Wow! That is an amazing once in a lifetime find! I think y'all are gonna do amazing with your return on all of this. Those transparencies were so neat. I can't believe all the records too! I am looking forward to your updates. This is all so exciting! Did y'all find anything you are keeping for yourselves?
Hi Kari! Thanks so much! Yes, it's pretty exciting! We'll post an update. So, in this haul we really did not find anything for ourselves, but that's ok! :) It's more fun to find good stuff that we can sell. We definitely have our work cut out for us! Thanks so much for your continued support!
AMAZING is an understatement!! You all are so blessed to have been contacted and I’m glad you had the money to invest!! Way to gooooooooo!! 🤩🎉✅💥💯🙌
Thank you so much, Esme! Yes, this is really exciting, and we are grateful that the estate guys called us. And it was a pretty major decision to invest that much, but we feel good about it. It will take time to get it all sold, but we'll keep you posted on the results. I guess that we'll be working this lot pretty heavily this coming winter! We very much appreciate your continued support! :)
NOW I know what you were talking about - Wow!
And you can see how much is actually left from looking at the piles in the house. Check out the links Kath put in the pinned comment. She'll keep the Heritage auction links updated. We just found out today (7/9) that another space auction is planned for September.
As John's wife, I have to say that this was truly an exciting 3 days! I apologize that I didn't have it in me to film during the actual pick, but in my defense, I was immersed in what we were sorting through, and didn't have what it took to both sort and film. There really was just so much stuff to go through, that I couldn't do both. I hope that as we go forward with this lot that I'll do a better job of filming our progress and results. Thank you for your patience!
No worries kiddo - the picking was more important. We get to see the cream of the crop as you organize everything and start selling. You do a great job!

I want to add that I went over to the Flea Market before I left for NH but didn't see you! We'll be back in the fall! :)
@@mountainoceankath So sorry I missed you! Be glad you aren't here now. The 'feels like' temperature the other day was 110 - YIKES🤪
@@sherrielorraine7931 Oh my gosh. That's way too hot. We were in the mid-90s a week or so ago for about 3 days. It's NEVER like that in June. And, up here there's no air conditioning in these cottages either. I wonder how many people will be setting up at the flea market in those temps!
Just in case you don't see this in the video description, we're pretty psyched to see a few of our items featured at Heritage Auction's "July 20 The 55th Anniversary of the Apollo 11 Moonlanding: Space Exploration Showcase Auction Featuring the Buzz Aldrin Collection" (Auction ##331622024) - see our lots at the auction here: historical.ha.com/c/search.zx... There is ALSO another Space Auction scheduled at Heritage in September. It appears that more of our items will be in that one. So far we're seeing that it opens for bidding September 3rd, and closes September 28th, so that will be exciting as well!
I want to add that we'll put together a few more videos that follow this journey. For example, after this first Heritage auction closes, we'll let everyone know how we did. Same with the September auction that we just found out about. :)
Nice NASA find
Thank you Colleen! Now we just need to sell it!
We had a blast with this! Looking forward to seeing you in the fall, Colleen! :)
You could sell the candlesticks for more than the scrap price!
We've found that that's the case with better names, but these were pretty generic (no fancy pattern, and no brand name). We don't scrap out stuff that has a decent history of selling. For example, in February we sold a small Bloomingdale's sterling silver trumpet style bud vase for $49. Silver's up a bit since we did that video (as of 6/22/24 spot price is right around $30). Thanks so much for watching and commenting. We really appreciate it!
I feel like a trip to Hawaii now!
I'll bet a lot of people wanted to go to Hawaii during that 1920s Hawaiian music craze! Thanks so much for listening, Michele!
Is it just me or who else likes side 2 better? 🌺
Hi Esme! We almost thought that the 2 songs sounded similar at first - at least the start of each song. But now that you mention it, and we listen through both songs, we agree: Side 2 is a little more interesting with a few more instrumentals and nuances. Thanks so much for listening!

Hi again Esme! Saw you posted this comment twice so thought I should make sure you see our reply on both. Just copied what I wrote below: We almost thought that the 2 songs sounded similar at first - at least the start of each song. But now that you mention it, and we listen through both songs, we agree: Side 2 is a little more interesting with a few more instrumentals and nuances. Thanks so much for listening!
You sure do know your books! Thank you for the tips 🎉🎉
Thank you, Esme! Yes, one thing I do know is books! Dealing in rare and used books is how I started out over 40 years ago. I'm glad you found the video helpful! Thanks so much for watching!
OH WOW! Awesome sales. That last one for $1900. I will be looking for that one. Thanks for sharing
Thanks so much Q! Yeah, that particular guidebook is a really good one, but even some of the later ones are pretty good as you saw. The AMC (Appalachian Mountain Club) has a very wide following, so you never know when some of those guidebooks are going to pop up! BTW: I'll bet you noticed that we pick up Bibles more often now after you showed us about some of those (I think it was a year or so ago in one of your vids!). Glad to see you back, and thanks for your encouragement!
@@JohnsYardSaleFinds yeah I saw the bible. Again nice sales..
@@ONEDAYATATIMERESELLER Thanks!
Great book sales and tips!👍
Thanks so much! We're glad that you found it helpful. Thanks for watching, and thank you so much for your support!
That's a clean copy too - not a lot of snap, crackle and pops! :)
Thanks Michele! It wasn't too bad. We've been categorically eliminating a bunch of recordings that we think would be interesting to share if the quality was better.
💯💯🎶🎶😃
Thank you for listening, Esme! (Kath says, "Did it get your toes tapping?")
@@JohnsYardSaleFinds yup! When I was learning to play the violin, this was one of the first songs I remember we practiced so it brought back lovely memories 😁
@@esmelovesvintage That's awesome!
