I've made coke ribs before but do you think if you "brined" the butt in Dr. Pepper it would be too sugary and burn during the cook?
Yeah, I would think the acid in the soda would make the meat mushy as well
@@CasksnQue it definitely tenderizes the meat but doesn't have the effect like pineapple juice does. I would soak racks of ribs in coke for a day or more and it didn't change the texture. 🤷🏾♂️

@@CasksnQue the only thing I was worried about is the amount of cook time plus the added sugar. With ribs it's gonna be 3-4 hrs. With a butt like that you are easily looking at double that time and I'd be nervous about the reaction to smoke for that long.
Agreed. That’s a lot of sugar. Maybe if the meat were to be rinsed off it would help some.

Thanks. Gonna do my first hog next weekend 77lb. Everything I see online is telling me 6 to 7 hrs for 75lb hog at 225 to 250 deg?? This seem not long enough. Was your 13 hours on the grill? Or did you have a few in the prep. Thanks for you help.

why foil boat? looks like you could use a pan too
Don’t need a pan when you use the foil boat method. The foil boat method allows for crispy bark and retaining juice.

@@CasksnQue being from hawaii, im partial to kiawe wood, which is a strain of mesquite, and is used in the imu to make kalua pig. ive done this dr pepper before, no boat method, just full wrap with kiawe, and it was great. gonna try the boat let4hod now, ty

What’s your favorite way to smoke chicken breasts?
I was excited to be able to buy a Bowman brothers small batch last fall because it’s reported it’s the same juice as what they bottle in Blantons. i really like the Bowman Brothers so when I finally got a hold of the Blantons, I was excited to blind them. For me, the Bowman Brothers smashes the Blantons into dust so much more flavor. It was hard not to be really disappointed in the Blantons

I think its a great whiskey. Its better than a lot of bottles in its price range (msrp) stuff like larceny bp, henry mckenna bib have all let me down.

Ok, Blantons. I like it, not love it, but depends on the price. For 60 it's good but not as good as others at same price point. For anything over retail it's not worth it to me. If my buddy is pouring it from his supply, it's the best ever.

I can honestly say that I have NEVER heard of anyone tying up their chuck steak. He failed miserably by not tenderizing the steak. If you tenderize the meat, it will be indistinguishable from a ribeye. I guarantee his version was tough and chewy.

@@CasksnQue I can say from personal experience that cooking chuck like I would a ribeye straight from the package has 100% been a much tougher chew. You can tenderize a chuck to get more tender like a ribeye but it isn't a 1:1 match. Can be done though with a little help like a good wet brine and/or mechanical tenderizer.
