Holy poop. I appreciate his service but I’ve watched 3 videos with this guy and he has many inaccuracies. I was going to list them but there was just too many lol. I’m surprised no one else has pointed out some yet.

Great job! It is nice to see younger people become involved in these projects. In addition to learning some skills and some history, I hope it leaves you with sense of satisfaction for a job well done in helping to preserve these historic ships. I certainly would feel good about it if I had done that. Hope you are able to continue.

Funny you should mention closing and getting locked inside... About 20 years ago my Scout Troop and I did an overnight. (Loved it BTW!) Anyway me and my Father decided to go look around Lionfish. We were in the Control Room when the lights just cur out! Thankfully we were both wearing light up watches and that was just enough light to get forward to the Torpedo Room just before the guy was about to lock the door. The 1MC was working, but nobody announced the sub was closing. I just remember that this was shortly after the Kusrk sank and thinking how scarry being trapped in a sub can be.

My father served as a Fire Controlman on the USS Massachusetts in World War II. He always tried to explain to me what he did on this ship but I did not really understand. I wish I would have researched this earlier as he would have absolutely LOVED to see this video. He passed on October 15, 2024 - just 10 days before his 100th birthday. I was missing him today and looked up the USS Massachusetts and found your video. I thank you from the bottom of my heart for letting me see where he worked and what he did so many years ago.

I'm a little surprised there's nothing about Grumman in the video. Especially as the Avenger was a Grumman design, hence the F in TBF Avenger. The story I'm most familiar with concerning GM is that Grumman needed to free up production for the F6F Hellcat and licensed the Avenger out to GM to meet the Navy's needs for both aircraft, GM built Avengers (under their Eastern Aircraft Division) were, as is mentioned in the video, TBMs. Though the "Encyclopedia of Aircraft of WWII" puts the licensing by GM in December '41.

Thank you guys for doing what you do to preserve our history. I've been coming to visit the Massachusetts for years. I used to come with my uncle when I was a teenager. Now that I'm older I come with my fiance. We try to visit the Massachusetts once a year or so to come and see the ship and spend some money in the gift shop to try to help a bit. We both work quite a bit but we always try to make an effort to go once a year. I know it's not much but every dollar helps we don't have a lot but we do try to spend a bit when we go.

My dad was transferred to the U.S.S. Lionfish from the U.S.S. Ray after his B-29 was shot down on a mission to bomb Oita airfield.

So that’s why you see the iowas during there reactivation,all of the gun houses removed and guns removed they were sent off to be realigned.
