2024 Odessa Desert 100, Second Wave, Time Lapse Full Lap
I didn't intend to do a time lapse but it actually turned out kinda cool. You can slow down the clip by going to SETTINGS at the bottom of the movie and change the speed to 0.25 or 0.50. Not having the engine sounds is a bummer though... I got a better start this year and I get faster each time I go. It rained on Friday and the dirt was perfect for Sunday. Once again the Stumpjumpers put on an awesome event, and big thanks to the landowners!

Riding Mattawa mountains
Переглядів 356Рік тому
This is an update to my Riding the Saddle Mountains video. Different bike, different camera and a different route. My camera (GoPro 8) was not working for the first 15 minutes or so but we left from the same spot and then went up the canyons instead of an access road. It was fairly green for the desert and only got into the low 70's. We rode around and went to the Mattawa side parking lot, went...
2023 desert 100 Family Poker Run

Part of my ride with family on Saturday 4-1-23. Had a blast and new Go Pro worked good. Was hoping to record the race Sunday but the camera froze just before the riders meeting and I didn't have time to switch Cams. One of our bikes was overheating early in ride and finally figured out that the fan was not connected. No problems after that.

This is part of my experience racing in the Desert 100 for the first time, and my first race ever. I'm in the 50 -59 age group so I did just one lap, 50 miles. I initially raced to be able to finish, but as I went on I pushed a little harder to get a better result. Highlights: 4:45 - first carnage and embarrassing loop-out, more fun carnage at 30:15 , Paul Neff overall winner passes me at 35:18...

Video and pictures from the Saturday qualifying laps. The opening videos are of the riders getting ready to ride up the mountain to the starting area. The rest is of the starts and the obstacle area a good bit into the race. This is in Kellogg Idaho at the Silver Mountain Resort. One of the best Mountain Biking destinations as well as skiing.

Got up to about 72 degrees F. , Just a little dusty overall. Clips not necessarily in chronological order- My editing skills are still lacking. We found a steep trail after our batteries died that hadn't been used in over a year and spent about an hour cutting small trees and dragging the bikes under large ones. There were a lot of trails on side hills where you had to stay very focused! We did...

This is the second lap of the day starting at about 12:30. The weather/ lighting was better but less people on the course. I try to include as many fellow riders as possible but if you're on this and don't want to be let me know. The weather overall was almost perfect; not too hot, not dusty, not muddy...At 36:30 I pull over to fix a flat front tire. Fortunately Tubliss is easy, back on course ...
2018 Desert 100 Ironman Poker Run Runcam2

April 7 2018 , left camp around 8a.m. This is only a little over a third of the ride... I crashed and broke my external power cable for the Cam. I used the Runcam2 mounted under my visor. These are normally used for drones, and are not waterproof, but it worked fine and took a beating. It sprinkled a little early on but started raining after about a half hour. Things got pretty muddy toward the...

You need a BIG bomb run...? Wow who put on this race. In the 70's we had 10's of thousands and our club had 1 to 5 mile bomb runs start line looked like the side of a foot field. In Barstow to Vegas "last real one" the bomb was over 5 miles away, maybe 10, and we were still three deep. But it was better than this. fun is fun

1 - 3 thousand rider. not 10's type.. sorry I think Barstow to Vegas 3,000. Massive bomb run. Practice on bomb run was an event itself..

Oh man, I just finished 2023 in vintage class, lost my entire exhaust, bent my subframe, lost a battery bracket and bent a foot peg out so far I can't even start the thing without jamming the kickstart. I love this race, great video!

Were you able to finish? I love the sound of the old two strokes especially as they pass me... I hoped to have a video of this years race but my new go pro was so cold it wouldn't start! I went down at about 40 miles and bruised some ribs. Bent my bars but limped in.

@@dasa5381 That's awesome, I'm glad to hear you made it! I didn't have any crashes this year, but ran out of gas at MP47 and had to have a buddy turn around and fill up an old water bottle from his tank to finish. It was awesome!

My husband and I are thinking of going so he can run the race, my only question is how many hours did it take you to run the race? He is a very good rider.

For the 50 mile classes the fastest riders did it in just over 2 hrs and in the 100 mile classes just under 3 1/2! There are a lot of variables such as weather, blown tires (most common bike issue), going off course ( see the 2:00 to 4:00 minute section). Racing in the desert is different than Motocross and singletrack riding , but has elements of both. If you've never done it do the Ironman on Saturday for a taste. Tubliss or Bib Mousses highly recommended.

If you drive through the town of Mattawa, on road 24, one mile east of Mattawa is road R, take a left and cross a canal, follow the road all the way and you'll see a sign saying entering public lands. Park and unload there and explore but be safe and pack it out. I only live two miles from Saddle mountain.
