A Depressing Christmas Poem? (In the Bleak Midwinter)
"In the Bleak Midwinter" is a poem by the English poet Christina Rossetti. It was published under the title "A Christmas Carol" in the January 1872 issue of Scribner's Monthly and first collected in book form in Goblin Market, The Prince's Progress and Other Poems.
It has been set to music several times. Two settings, those by Gustav Holst and by Harold Darke, are popular and often sung as Christmas carols. Holst's is a hymn tune called Cranham, published in 1906 in The English Hymnal and simple enough to be sung by a congregation. Darke's is an anthem composed in 1909 and intended for a trained choir; it was named the best Christmas carol in a 2008 poll of leading choirmasters and choral experts.

Edgar Allan Poe's Christmas Poem? (The Bells)
Переглядів 52114 днів тому
Enjoy one of Poe’s most iconic poems with us this holiday season! "The Bells" is a heavily onomatopoeic poem by Edgar Allan Poe which was not published until after his death in 1849. It’s perhaps best known for the repeated use of the word "bells". The poem has four parts to it; each part becomes darker and darker as the poem progresses from "the jingling and the tinkling" of the bells in stanz...

A crow sat next to me at the bus stop yesterday and then hopped onto me and now im going to be looking for it to feed the crow healthy bird food peanuts every day
Learning to warn the boy when the foremans approaching
All my life I have admired and studied birds. The crow has always been my spiritual animal.
@@Johnwashere-dt2ov me too!!!
Also, the movie It’s a Wonderful Life popularized it in modern times when Frank Capra overruled his music director replacing Ode to Joy with Auld Lang Syne in the final scene. Capra and music director never spoke again. - Jimmy Hawkins book It’s a Wonderful Life.
I’m a crow therian and this is half to learn how to do vocals and half because I want to find crow friends
FEELING oodles of FUN and LOVE caresses 🎉❤ Cappie Jan 4th🎉
Thank you for your video. My best friends are the crows and ravens that hang out with me. One raven comes to my window every morning.
Just wondering if salted peanuts are okay to feed them
@@davidgerstung5144 don’t remember saying salted are ok. I give them plain.
@ thanks
It started with 2 crows a few years ago. Now they come in a pack of 7-9. I don't make crow sounds. I call "Corbin", which is an English term for a crow and they come when I call them. They will be flying overhead and instantly drop and land on the roof about 15 feet away. They did bring me a gift once. I thought it was a speckled stone but turned out to be a piece of racoon shit. Anyway, we are frienda, they love peanuts and everyone is happy.
We used to sing this song After translating into our native language
Love. Love. Love.🥰 But ... I ... actually had to read the story whence I was in college. Had this video been out then (~1999) it would have saved me from having to use my imagination, and, one of the very best reading experiences in my entire life.
My Crows and Magpies have me trained well after 5 years and 3 Generations of Conferences or Convention or a Cabal of Crows. Crows do not kill!! They're nature's gift to sustainable equitable recycling and compost removal. Academy Awards and Emmys

I have one crow that I named COALTRAIN if I put out peanut butter crackers the small sandwich size he Flys right to me and grabs the cracker and then looks at me to make sure I am paying attention to him and he hops over the crackers how ever many times he has family or friends with at first I had no idea what was going on but he grabs it drops it hops over right to left 3 or 4 or 5 times and if I give him how ever many crackers as hops he brings it to his friends and then comes back to eat by me I have videos of him or her doing it.. super cool
Great video and breakdown! The Bells has always been one of my favorite poems! Thank you, I learned so much!
2:44 This is a beautiful descriptive definition of poetry! I too write poetry, albeit it has been a few. And to be honest, I never knew Poe felt this way about it! I have always said that poetry is akin to writing out how a person feels and their thoughts in the moment. But in this case, everything could be seen as a beautiful poetic world of everything wrapped into one life present. Thank you for another lovely presentation. And more about Mr. Poe himself.
Wow, thank you!
👏👏
My friend found a fledgling crow out of its nest raised it for a year, taught it how to say some words and that crow always landed on his shoulder when he blew the whistle
Thanks!
My neighbour would think I'm mad 😂 I've got a murder of Crow friends, but i think itd be cool to call a raven.

"The Raven" (1845) By Edgar Allan Poe Once upon a midnight dreary, while I pondered, weak and weary, Over many a quaint and curious volume of forgotten lore- While I nodded, nearly napping, suddenly there came a tapping, As of someone gently rapping, rapping at my chamber door. “’Tis some visitor,” I muttered, “tapping at my chamber door- Only this and nothing more.” Ah, distinctly I remember it was in the bleak December; And each separate dying ember wrought its ghost upon the floor. eagerly i wish the morrow vainly i had sought to borrow From my books surcease of sorrow-sorrow for the lost Lenore- For the rare and radiant maiden whom the angels name Lenore- Nameless here for evermore. And the silken, sad, uncertain rustling of each purple curtain Thrilled me-filled me with fantastic terrors never felt before; So that now, to still the beating of my heart, I stood repeating “’Tis some visitor entreating entrance at my chamber door- Some late visitor entreating entrance at my chamber door;- This it is and nothing more.”
Holy sh!t. I've been a crow-friend for my entire life. I "inherited" that from my grandfather, who was always surrounded by them. I've had TONS of interactions with them in every country I've lived in and in every state I've lived in in THIS country. I have a box of things that have been given to me by Corvids, including an engagement ring that some unlucky soul left on her windowsill for a Magpie to snatch. But I've never thought to SOUND like them. Great work! I live alone. Will begin practicing.
The first Thanksgiving in America was 56 years before the Pilgrims celebrated their first harvest in Plymouth, Massachusetts. St. Augustine was the first permanent European settlement in the United States and the site of the first Mass in the country And so as your family celebrates Thanksgiving this year, don't forget that most historians agree that it really started in America as a Catholic celebration
.. THEM 'SELVIES"*
I make a clicking noise when I feed them and they like that noise and they show up. But I love this crow impression! So good! Oh! Also I noised the crows making a clicking sound near my window when I haven’t given them treats in a while lol… I think I went opposite way. But now I just want to learn to make convincing crow sounds like you! ❤❤❤❤❤
I have 12 crows visiting everyday for peanuts for over a year now...but they dont interact with me much...they come when they see me but thats about it
@@baronofgreymatter14 not all crows bring gifts and land on your head. Mine come but even after all this time keep their distance.
