    Hello. I am in the UK and I have just bought the same Fuso model and would like to achieve something simliar to you. I hope you can and don’t mind answering a few questions. Do you know your wheel offset measurement by any chance? I had hoped to use the same wheel builders you used (Aspect) but they can’t find any record of your job to refer to. Have you managed to improve the suspension? Many Thanks. Vic.

    Hi Just watched all your videos on the Fuso... You have done a great no, a fantastic job espetially the habitat! We are in the Market for a 6c18D (d is for double cab) to convert in the same way only even smaller habitat but with a sleeper box on top o the Cab. Cant wait to get cracking... AV are a small team, just say you're after a camper box. Our truck sways about a fair bit, I reckon it would be even worse with a sleeper above the cab. As an alternative to the Fuso, have you considered the double cab 4x4 Iveco?

      @@lc10w Right thats interesting... I have considered the Iveco but favour the Fuso... cant recall if you mentioned in your video if you upgraded your front suspension? its costly, but after wtching all the videos looks like a good investmant to create a more stable ride. Your right about adding weight higher, I was thinking more of a pop up type tent box for the kids so it would be negligable (maybe). Are you regretting getting the Fusso over the Iveco given you have now been in it a while? Thanks in advance. Rgds Mark.

    "Injectors needing reprogramming". That is a good reason for us to avoid a Fuso even if it was on the first places of our choices and we liked it a lot. Thanks for the information!

    • @lc10w
      @lc10w Рік тому

      Most modern vehicles need the injectors recoded on the ECU. The injector manufacturer flow tests each injector and gives them a unique code that includes the flow rate. That code is entered into the ECU so that just the right amount of fuel is sent to each injector so that they are as efficient as possible. Most modern vehicle's ECUs can be coded by workshops who have invested in the correct software, but Fuso have added a security blanket over their software so that only they can make ECU changes. Basically, they have your wallet by it's balls! The problem is, there are very few modern COE 4x4 trucks in the 3.5 to 7.5 ton bracket - Fuso, Isuzu, Hino, Iveco and a couple of randoms. That's why MB bought Fuso, because they didn't have a similar truck in their range. There's plenty of US pickups, but you loose more than a metre of habitat space due to the huge bonnet (hood) forward of the cab.

    • @lc10w
      @lc10w 2 роки тому

      The box is composite sandwich - 2mm grp/60mm high density foam sheet/2mm grp. Around the door cutout, it's super high density foam for extra strength as it's a big hole. The edge profiles are 4mm grp and the corners are 4mm aluminium.The cost of the box and subframe will be very different now - material prices have shot up in the last couple of years, and when Atkinson Vos Unimog gave us the quote, it was the first Fuso they had quoted for, and under-quoted. Kudos to them - they honoured the quote, so I'd say they made little profit. If you're UK/Euro-based and looking to have a box made, contact them.

    Been looking into the same vehicle 4x4, great turning radius, world stock, been around etc. I been looking for a refrigerated truck. I don't think I am adventurous enough to ever need frame rotation. Do you think a refrigerated truck body is good for a truck build? Thanks

    • @lc10w
      @lc10w 2 роки тому

      Fridge bodies have been used before, they have ready-made insulation. The Canter 4x4 has stiff suspension to cope with the 3.4t payload allowance, so has a flexy chassis to counter that on uneven terrain. It's amazing how much the chassis twists even in an urban environment. Some sort of dynamic subframe is therefore ideal.

    Hi, I'm wondering if you tackled the pass-thru cab->box yet, it's not clear from the videos. Also can you maybe show a sketch of the final layout? I'm at the beginning of tackling a very similar conversion, same box dimensions actually.

    • @lc10w
      @lc10w 3 роки тому

      Hi. No, the pass-thru will be done at a later date, after the build is finished, as it is a luxury rather than a necessity. I have only cut the outine in the inside so that it is easier to find at a later date, as that wall will be covered in veltrim. If I remember I will add a diagram of the layout in the next video.

    • @Khalinakhe
      @Khalinakhe 3 роки тому

      @@lc10w hey that's a really quick reply. Yeah I'm doing the conversion in Germany and the inspector I consulted said that before I cut anything I need to pay attention to the "structure guidelines" which I guess is some instructions from the manufacturer as to what not to cut. Or car is a nissan cabstar and 2WD but basically the exact same vehicle. I'm envious of the 4x4 and no double rear wheels but I guess ours is under 2.9m and being short also has its advantages. We will install air suspension btw, really easy modification to do on the rear leaf springs, just to aid with leveling the rig when parked. We found it's swaying too much when walking from side to side

    • @lc10w
      @lc10w 3 роки тому

      @@Khalinakhe My pass-thru will be a 'crawl-thru' - the hole in the cab will be not much deeper than the rear window (there's a horizontal stiffener about 20cm below the window), that way I'm not cutting too much strength out of the cab.

      The bare box and subframe combined is definitely less than a tonne, but can't remember the weights or split ratio. However, the lockers underneath are attached to the subframe not the chassis, so I've been calling it a full tonne. With my self-imposed reduced GVW of 6000kg, tyre-imposed rear axle load weight of 4600kg, front axle load weight of 2800kg and 1000kg of subframe and bare box, I have 2200kg left on the rear axle for the interior fit-out, water and travelling gear/stuff.

The only off-road patterned new tyres available in the UK in the size I wanted are Conti LCS which are £600+. The remoulds were £200. Just remember, if you are going to singles and keeping the 17.5"wheel size, the rear axle load rating will drop down to the rating of the tyres.

    I own a.similar Fronte GX ( deep maroon colour) since new. Regretfully, it has deteriorated badly and missing many engine parts. Over the years I have managed to restore the body but am now not making much progress because of the aforesaid engine parts issue. Question : do you know where the location of the VIN (chassis number) and engine number are? I need them for registration purposes. Any advice on compatibility of parts with the LC20 engine would also be much appreciated. Great video! Thanks

    • @lc10w
      @lc10w 5 років тому

      Hi. Chassis number is stamped in floor of the boot on a little raised plinth, next to the coolant reservoir. The engine number is stamped on the block, can't remember where. The LC20 engine is the same but different - it has a single carb and different oiling system, but the block is made to take both set-ups. If you have a running LC20 engine, just bolt the whole thing in - there was a JDM coupe available in low-spec single carb form. NZ only got the top spec triple-carb GX. Parts are now almost non-existent unless you can speak and read japanese to try and source NOS parts from Japan. The few people in NZ that have a Fronte still running has scrapped several other junkers for spare parts to keep their good one running, and I doubt will sell any bits. I parted out almost a dozen Frontes to keep me in parts. If you are handy with tools, you could put a bike engine in instead.

I am not too optimistic of the near-reservoir VIN, because practically the entire boot floor had to be remade as it was rusted. I fear that the number may have gone with the rusted parts! Useful information too on the compatibility of the LC20 engine. Long time ago I had both the GX (three carb version as yours) and an LC20 as well. Occasionally here in Indonesia I see running LC20 - may be I should try get them (for the engine parts). I live in Whanganui, New Zealand, and am the Very Proud owner of a Very Original, Excellent Condition, 4 ownwer, myself included, 1978 Suzuki SC100 CX-G, on of 40 imported by the Coleman Brothers, and if my research is correct, one of only 13 survivors here, not all of which are road ready? Being the tender age of 60, I remeber seeing Fronte's being driven when I was in my early to mid teens, as well as seeing an SC100 for sale at P and R Motors in Papakura a few years later. Back then I wondered if the motor in them was based on the GS1000 Motorcycle motor, which of course it wasnt, it in fact being the same as motor as in the humble Carry Van. The 40 cars that were imported into New Zealand seem to have been chosen at random, rather than sequentially from the production line? As a result, the one other that I have seen "In The Flesh" is different to mine, in that the Front Seats have a seperate adjustable head rest, where as my car, being number 27 off the production line (Chassis Number 100027, Engine Number 100039) has what I believe to be Fronte front seats, which are of a Tombstone shape, and are Black Vynle with Red and Black Chequered Pattern Cloth Inserts. Interestingly, the Battery in my car is mounted in the Engine Compartment, which appears to be original, rather than under the front "Luggage" compartment where they were normally located? I also have a large inventory of spare parts from the wrecks of three other SC100's, including a seat similar to the ones in my car. The chassis number of that particular car was I THINK 100072, although I can't be sure, other than knowing it was close to that number, and I know of one other car with the same early trim design that exist's here in New Zealand, although so far I have been unable to get the Chassis Number from it? There is a FaceBook page for owners and admirers of these reat little cars here in New Zealand, and another one in Finland, bot of which I am a member of. These little cars are now quite rare world wide, and I estimate that, outside of Japan, there are likely less than 300 remaining? As they were a K car in Japan, and as such, pretty much a Throw Away Item, it's likely there are few remaining there as well? I have watched and saved numerouse Japanese Video's on the Fronte Coup such as the one featured here, which seem to number over 100, but I have only seen two Japanese video's with SC100's in them? This leads me to speculate at the possibility that the car I own, because of it's low Chassis number of 100027, is the earliest produced surviving SC100 anywhere world wide? I have a Written Valuation of $10,500 for the car, done by a person authorised to do such valuations, and I am guessing that, because of the rarity of these desirable little cars worldwide, and the following they have, that it will continue to increase in value?
