I'm Tom, a trained banker mason and stone carver, showing the work I make so that people can have a better understanding about how the ancient trade of stonemasonry is done in the 21st century. Hopefully you can join me on my journey to make some cool stuff from the unforgiving material that is natural stone.
I'm back!
So after a little break due to life chaos, Im back! Showing you some of the tips and tricks from daily life as a banker mason.

how does it feel to know that I have touched your box trammel?
Really great to watch, must be lovely to be able to make something so lovely. What a great talent
Love your work. I work in an office and would love to be able to make things like you can.
7.05 “low coefficient of friction”
sick mate
Beautiful
Proper job!!
Savage.
How do you get block stone? What should i look for
What is your marking gauge marker made of?
I appreciate all these videos. I'm sure it's a pain to constantly be worrying about camera placement/monitoring and editing, but I always look forward to being inspired, and you continue to not disappoint. And as always, you're music selection is on point. Thanks... or as you guys across the pond say... "Cheers, mate!"
No.. James Preston would say they’re Cyma Rectas, not Cyma Reversas! 😂
I wondered if you were going to notice that 😉
Very nice Tom. Really like how you managed to form the external mitre after the internal one without having the waste left on to take a template, very impressive.
Welcome back dude. Was ready to sed out a search party
Well, hello again…so glad you are back.
Thanks. Ill be putting stuff out as often as i can!
Great to see you back! I have the same problem with upload speed, so I’ve resulted to using my phone with 5G. It takes only half an hour vs days. No need to explain about being busy, same here in Canada. Always mad right up to the holidays. Great stuff as always!
Thanks mate. yeah Im looking into 5g routers for the house. might be the only option moving forward. living rural is great but the wifi is shit 😂
@@mainstonecarvingare you not able to get fiber or done kind of hard line connection?
Always good seeing you're back.
Lovely work BTW I've always called the board a miller, not sure if that's a term used by East Anglian masons or country wide?
Thanks, If Im honest I've never heard it be called a miller but the variety of names for just about every part of masonry is one of the things that makes it so great!
17:30 imagine someone could actually draw those lines straight so fast and precise
🔥🔥🔥🔥😯😯😯😯☝️☝️☝️👍👍👍👍
Top class, i absolutely love your content, im stone mason myself but i do granit and marble. I would like to know where can i get protection mask against dust like yours?. Wish you all the best and i hope to see more of your videos, they are masterclass 👏🏻
Thanks! My mask is a "Sundstrom" half mask. I also have a full air fed helmet but that only comes out occasionally. Make sure you've got P3 filters and you are good to go! Dont mess around when cutting granit and marble. That stuff is high silica. 👍
@@mainstonecarving Thank you mate, this will help me alot... No more dust in my nose 😅
Beautiful, bravo
Good on ya mate. Just starting out meself after years of fixing. Thankyou, Great tips.
Awesome! good luck with it all. Get in touch if you need any help or advice.
@@mainstonecarving Thanks mate...
Superb stonemasonry content detailing all the processes to make a coping stone with weathering and a stepped moulded return. Great close up shots highlighted the systematic setting out and removal of waste material. Many banker masons tips regarding both the use of hand tools ( eg mitre gauge) and power tools were demonstrated throughout - highly informative. Wonderful precise work as usual and a pleasure to watch, learn and be inspired by. Most appreciative of the time it takes to produce such content given working/home life constraints. Seasons Greetings Tom!!!
So talented and well trained. With a great deal of 'I care' into it as well.
Thanks. I really appreciate that. Im always trying to keep standards up 🙂
Best Detailed Stone carving channel I've seen!
I would love a full tutorial from drawing it up to creation much like this but with more thorough explanation for new people, I want to get into this now lol.
That is a lot of very good and precise work. Have you ever used a lathe?
Thank’s !
That's awesome!
What ear buds you using? Nice work 👌👌
Thanks. I use JLAB ear buds. they are really cheap but have great battery life so I usually get about 6 months out a pair before they are completely wrecked from the dust.
This is amazing, I enjoyed every second of watching, Could you please make more of this videos. I am curious how Corinthian capitols were made.
what an amazing result. very satisfying to watch.
Currently pitching random rubble and hit the same spot 4 times in 2 minutes, needless to say i went for tea
Haw long it wos worck in real time, i lake your work , you give so match details you are very god educate, i am sure your perents had huge influence, good to give to you more inspiration to sare with us, thanks i see you
Fantastic workmanship
Hello Tom, do you know of any online courses with videos that teach the art of stone carving to match the demands of being a baker mason?
you sir area real master mason. salute
Could you make a video of what discs do and how to use them please.
No college in South Wales to learn 😅
great job but i would of coloured the new face down, can't of paid off 3 men
Where in the uk are you
Im in West Yorkshire, huddersfield area
Would love to be able to do what you do. I own a monumental mason but colleges by us don’t teach stonemasonary
Great work guys. I'm a stonemason too, and i wish i could make things like these too
you almost definitely can, just give it a go!
Would you be able to make a video how a column is carved. Especially how did they carve the entasis so perfectly? What is the trick.. strings? Levels? Especially engaged columns that cant be spinned
yeah, the next time I work a column with an entasis I will film it and get it uploaded.
I love your finished work and love watching you do it. Grinder skills are top notch. The water wall is awesome but get an airstream mask for your lungs mate. Been at this thirty years now and wish I had those things years ago and my lungs wouldn’t be fucked.
Thanks so much for your kind words. Yeah I take my lung health very seriously, I regularly change my filters and pre filters and make sure when working sandstone or higher silica content limestone I am strict with changing clothes and keeping my ppe on. I have an air fed helmet but it gives me really bad headaches for some reason so I stick with the half mask. Thanks for your concern 🙂
We need your skills in America. Want to move to Texas? lol
Thanks for the offer but Im happy here for the moment lol.
sick
So this series popped up in my recommended list and it was awesome. Lots of info and amazing craftsmanship. My only question is now that you have a pawn when are you going to finish the rest of the giant stone chess set? ;P
Stunning
