While regularly staying up late at night with my newborn, I had plenty of time to study all of RuneScape's earliest update logs and Bluerose13x history in order to create the perfect list of Best in Slot combat gear with way too much precision. wait... we were eating moss giant cock??
Words cannot describe how much I appreciate the Gordon Lightfoot reference!
@@Barqitect Love the Great Lakes and all of their folklore and culture ❤️
Giles is typically pronounced with a "J" sound. :)
True, but as we all know, nothing in RuneScape comes with a pronunciation guide. Ardougne being a major offender lol
@HamOSRS Oh it's a real name for sure! I went to school with a Giles. But yeah, Runescape words are... Special.
This was a great video bro! Especially with the added real world reflections of the times. Can't believe you're not a massive UA-camr! It will come, keep working!
@@ScottThePisces Thank you! I'm glad you enjoyed it. Stay tuned for more like this since the story isn't complete just yet. I'm not worried about having a big channel or not. We're just focused on making good content and we believe that will speak for itself regardless of subscriber count.
Funny to think Runescape almost had houses worth more than real life houses
I just did the math and one trillion GP is worth about $200k on the black market so you're not wrong depending on the house lmao.
great vid - may i ask what the music jingle you use in the transitions is? when you show the map and the date?
@@MrMosstin I don't know the exact same but it's the jingle that plays when you unlock a new tower & piece of the map in the Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.
Really well constructed and concise video, I definitely see the J1mmy inspiration, 10/10, subbed (Also I see you, gordon lightfoot enjoyer)
Thank you! Yes, I'm a big fan of him and By Release. I very briefly met him in game once and he was just a nice, humble dude.
I absolutely loved this video, I've consumed so much OSRS content but nothing has been like this at all, and it has kept my attention all morning as I have been getting ready for that day~❤️ Thank you so much for a wonderful content 😊
@@OxytocinPotion I'm glad you enjoyed it so much. We have another similar timeline video on the channel as well going over the history of best-in-slot gear that you may enjoy as well. Also, stay tuned for part 2 of this series.
Great video, really funny. Cant wait for the rest.
@@realname2566 Thank you! I think you'll enjoy part 2. Check out our other timeline video on the channel if you haven't already. Very similar in concept to this one.
cool to see what was happening IRL at that time, like current president and shrek release
@@Arapoib It was a different time back then for sure.
1:10 "Just a short 23 and a half years" I literally was BORN the day this game came out haha
@@Myiic Crazy coincidence for sure.
Something about runescape neighborhoods sounds so amazing.. entirely unfeasible, but man that would be so cool. Definitely something my kid self would've thought up when brainstorming ideas for runescape. I wonder if something like it still isn't possible. Of course, physical housing in the overworld wouldn't be possible in any way, but what about instanced neighborhoods? We do have POH updates coming up so now would be the time if ever. Maybe have it so that your house only shows up in these instanced neighborhoods when you're online, OR you could create a "neighborhood" with your clan and friends. You wouldn't be able to go into other peoples homes unless they were there and let you in, but you could still see them. Could be a pretty simple implementation, but it would add so much to that "MMO" feeling. As for how difficult that would be to add to the current engine, I certainly wouldn't get my hopes up even if it somehow became something jagex was interested in.
Swear the GE needs to be gone... AGAIN...
Or maybe they just don't like the wilderness? Your insistence on painting these hypothetical people as morons at best and liars at worst is cringe lmao. You're like, 30 or something. Surely you can make an actual response to those people, assuming they even exist? inb4 ass blasted
The music between each update makes me think of Harry Potter
It's from Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, but I can definitely hear the resemblance.
The sheikah tower unlock sound from Zelda 👀
@@--Kirby-- The Wii U version, obviously.
Hey man can you teach me how to edit a video like this, or direct me to where I can learn? @HamOSRS
That high detail low detail pic really sent me 😢 OG player since 2004 ❤️
@@J2dad5389 Great year for the game. Stay tuned for future episodes of the series.
Genuinely of the best youtube videos I've ever watched. This re-contextualised my view of a game I thought I knew everything about (especially the stuff about early RS)
I was researching something completely different for an unrelated RS project and started to notice some really interesting patterns. It turns out this side project is far more interesting than the original project. It really is amazing learning why things are where they are even 20+ years later.
The SAB2 songs are a cherry on top!
Excellent contemporary game to RS Classic. The music is timeless.
This is gonna be a big channel if you keep this up brother
@@tomrawson9017 Thank you! We just want to make good content that's different, unique, and interesting.
Lol. I can imagine you researching for this video to find Bob the Builder as the top song at the time, and thinking “they aren’t going to believe this.”
@@JoshThomas20XX 💯 We can never let them live this down. 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
What a masterpiece keep this coming my friend
@@goob4093 Part 2 is already in the works with a completed script 👀
runescape's original design very obviously derived as a fan project of Ultima Online. It's a big reason I got into runescape so much as a kid, because it reminded me a lot of the same game philosophy as UO - which I had loved playing with my dad for years.
Never knew that. It's actually pretty cool to see the similarities. Definitely somewhere on the spectrum between imitation and grand larceny.
This sounds like an AI
@@philliporsit No my friend, that's just good old fashioned natural stupidity you hear in my voice lmao
Do you know when the Fisher Realm was added to the game?
@@TheHolyGrail2004 Yes, I mention it in the script of the next video. Stay tuned.
Thurgo definitely did that. The cheek! 😂
@@louisjackson286 As long as we're getting quests like Dragon Slayer 2, Monkey Madness 2, Desert Treasure 2, etc. it sounds like we need to hold him accountable in Knight's Sword 2.
Dude what a great video my man.
@@theexpert758 Thank you! Stay tuned for more like this one.
@HamOSRS i really like the way you inter connected the map, with the mobs, with the loot, with the meta, great stuff my dude.
@@theexpert758 I'm glad you enjoyed it. We found the format to work pretty well with the other timeline video on the channel for the best in slot gear over time so we figured we'd try it again with the world map. There will be a sequel to this video. These take a long time to make so we delayed this one until we had some really good progress on the sequel.
@@HamOSRS very excited
Lil bro doesn’t know that those OG Player Owned Houses spots are a riff on Ultima Online
Yeah I just looked it up and I think I was a little too young for that one. You can definitely see the similarities though.
great video
Thank you!
@@HamOSRS Anytime! seriously tho I found this to be a very fascinating topic and I enjoyed seeing the evolution of the game through the changes on the map. Thanks for making it. And I hope you get some good traction from it.
The fact that you could get banned into a black void and then trick somebody into taking your place, it’s pretty cool
@@devinmh9125 I don't believe the banned players were able to switch themselves back to the main game in their place. I think it was just the innocent players trapped there with the guilty.
We had an item called a Disk of Returning, and we could go visit the ban pit any time we liked!
@@HamOSRS makes me think of the phantom zone
Loved this video bro! Hope you make some more
Yes, part 2 has a complete script and some important assets already put together. Stay tuned 👀
@ looking forward to it man!
North of falador next to the wild line , lies a church The zamorack wine church I used to lure people to get the wine and lock the door behind them I once gooned someone for 600 k This was years ago They made the door unclickable I’ve made a permanent mark on RuneScape
A classic lure in RS2. It wasn't quite as dangerous in RS Classic since it was just 1v1 melee combat and I believe they just had a steel mace. Selling their steel mace drops to the Falador mace store was actually a pretty decent money maker back then so it was unlikely you would even be attacked there in the first place as the spawns were somewhat competitive on free to play worlds.
While I like playing OSRS as it is now, it must have been a completely different and more chill experience back then, when everyone was basically a handicapped UIM. Anyways, nice video, always found the old times of RS interesting, like lore of the old times haha
I think Open RSC has a 2001scape server where you can experience what it was like back then except the server is mostly a ghost town of its own. Glad you enjoyed the video. Stay tuned for part 2 coming next.
Runescape seemed so much nicer back then, it seemed more about group play than what it feels like now which is a singleplayer game disguised as an MMO.
Great video! you deserve more subs!
@@BeanutButterBoy Thank you! We are already thrilled with the response so far as it is.
Legendary
16:05-16:36… yup 🤣 don’t know how many times I died due to that
@@Trainer_305 My first death in RS was due to this and it was absolutely devastating 😭
Ok but what you don’t understand is I need that next episode now
@@thiccskips2416 The bad news is that you might have to wait a little bit longer. The good news is that the script and maps for part 2 are already done 👀
“Monster Hunters are hunted by Garbage Pkers” you’re not wrong though💀
