      Possibly so. Most of my reviewed games come from review copies, trades, or things I pick up with sponsorship credit, as I tend to have little to no money to spend on board games, so not sure if I'll end up with copies of those as PNPs, but definitely curious to try out more of them now that I've played this one, so it's definitely much more likely now!

    One clarification at 18:55 - after you defeat a monster the Battle Reward can also be used for Equipment or an Item, not just Loot. Thanks for the playthrough. I Kickstarted this game, like I did with others from them, and am really enjoying it!

      Thanks for watching and leaving a comment! Yeah, getting everything directly from Dan is always the best option with this game. This one is still one of my favorite games of all time, and the newest expansion Characters, makes it even better. I've got a video up from that one as well (though it was a preview using a prototype of the game) and hope to do another one of the new co-op mode before too long.

    Great video and really good game. The art is amazingly perfect, as well as the resources to let you create your own characters / villains etc. The narrative is super fun - we actually like to hear the voice recording of Dan reading it. From a design perspective the "determined" mechanism is excellent, the variety of how they make each quest feel fresh is brilliant, and the balance of difficulty is surprisingly great. It's a great game to get to the table and it doesn't "outstay" its welcome - about the perfect length for an adventure with the kids. Thanks!

    Hi Karl, Great playthrough. I love the purple theming of the game. I especially love the purple wallet. I have many Button Shy games, but I don't think I have any purple wallets yet. You said that in subsequent runs you do not get additional buttons because you would gotten them anyway. True, but in the previous round you would have had to spend probably 2 or 3 buttons to get it. I later rounds you get that button for free, so you DO save buttons. I'm on the fence on this one because I am wondering about how challenging the game is, how replayable it is, and how dependent it is on luck. Also, is it too similar to Fishing Lessons or Glass Garden? Thank you for another excellent teaching video.

    • @PurpleMoosePlays
      @PurpleMoosePlays 22 дні тому

      It's generally quite a bit more challenging than this showed, I got very lucky here. Sure there is some luck from the order of cards, but multiple runs would help with that. Good call on the cost of those buttons in hand vs on the table. As for the other games, it's quite different. Fishing Lessons is a programming game, which this doesn't have, and Glass Gardens is a much thinkier puzzle to me, so this feels unique compared to those for me

    • @TravelingForward
      @TravelingForward 22 дні тому

      Hi! I am the developer for the game - so I have a lot of experience with it (and certainly some bias towards it as well!). I would say it feels quite a bit different than Fishing Lessons and Glass Garden when playing it. They may share some things like abilities for swapping cards around and whatnot, but the overall goal, game flow, hand management mechanics, and theme is quite different. I would also say the challenge ramps up quite a bit on the harder difficulties for Hyperstar Run, and there is a Challenge Mode for the game which requires you to also gain an Achievement while playing to win. So if you want levers for difficulty/challenge level, the game comes with a lot of options for you.

    Having done Light in the Mist, we are planning our second Postcurious game and are debating between this, Morrison, and Threads of Fate. Do you have a recommendation? We only had to use a clue on one Light in the Mist puzzle and it took us 6-7 hours.

      Threads of Fate is the only one I still haven't gotten to yet (it's sitting next to me on the table sneering at me right at this moment, lol). Emerald Flame is a lot of fun and definitely the meatier experience compared to Morrison, so if you want a bigger game, definitely that's the one. On pure experience alone though, I think I'd have to go Morrison. The theming, story, and ways you interact with both really made it my favorite PostCurious experience. In any case, you can't really go wrong with any of them!

    Always great to get a new video from you! I'd definitely interested in seeing Flashback Lucy on the channel (although, I must say, your spoiler-free playthroughs of puzzle games kind of leave me wanting to see much more than what you're comfortable showing. Maybe a separate video with huge spoiler warnings?) I think we've talked about this before, but in future videos of things like this one, I'll consider a full playthrough of the first "scenario". • @Kumagoro42
      @Kumagoro42 Місяць тому

      @@PurpleMoosePlays Gotcha. But I'm kind of thinking you're selling Harmonies short here. I'm also not a fan of abstract strategy, but the theme here clicks so perfectly (something than can't really be said for, say, Cascadia or Calico). Sure you're making strategic choices and it's not a banal game (though it's family weight for sure), but you actually see your mountain ranges grow in your little domain, you build your forests and make the rivers flow bit by bit, and invite all kinds of animals to settle in. Probably not something that BGA can't really capture, also because the components are top-notch quality and so satisfying to hold in your hand, and the graphic style is unique. It's been a huge success with every player I showed it to so far.

      @@Kumagoro42Ok, you've convinced me to look further, because funnily enough, I enjoy both Calico and Cascadia, as well as many other spatial puzzlers, not sure exactly what about Harmonies didn't work for me

      @@PurpleMoosePlays I also resisted Harmonies at first, because it looked to me like a more complicated Cascadia. I only bought it kind of begrudgingly because I found a good offer and I saw how fast it was rising on the BGG leaderboard so it qualified as "must have in my collection". It also has strong Azul influences, though, so that's probably what eventually did it for me because Azul is my all-time favorite in that genre.

      @@Kumagoro42 Ah see, that changes things dramatically for me, as I haven't ever enjoyed a play of Azul, and I've tried several times.

     Yes, I understand, Watching on a phone limits my view on the card symbols, so I’m just playing the word making part. I like these spelling type games. I have the original Paperback card game, but my circle isn’t into spelling games. I just got Slopes from buttonshy. I’m looking forward to trying it out! The card art looks fun!

    Great playthrough! Thanks for taking a look at our game. In your final thoughts portion, I think you really nailed some of the things we were going for design-wise when it came to both the word game and turn-to-turn tactical elements.

    I've watched a number of playthroughs of various games, and in my opinion, you do a fabulous job of describing the games, one of the best. That being said, I really, really wish you could suppress one of your "really's." I'm not complaining, but I find it rather distracting. It was particularly noticeable in your review of Numbsters. You obviously really, really liked that game.

      Lol, just caught myself doing that the other day while recording. Understood and completely agree, but not sure I can stop my subconscious reallys, lol
