Reloading .223/5.56 Hornady 75g BTHP W/ Accurate 2495
Welcome back to Cloninger’s Garage. This video will be about reloading the .223/5.56. I will be using Hornady 75g BTHP bullets on top of Accurate 2495 powder. I will be looking at velocities out of this load. I hope to reach 2800 fps out of my Tikka t3x 22.5” barrel. Again sorry for the technical difficulties; we lost the footage for the target camera (it overheated and shut down).

    A few years back Smith and Wesson built some .357 mag. revolvers that would not stand up to the maximum pressure as stated by SAAMI in loading manuals. They were able to get SAAMI to lower the maximum pressure in loading manuals. When loading for newer revolvers you will need to make sure you use a newer reloading manual. There is a difference in maximum powder charge in all my older manuals than there is in my newer books. It may only be a problem with newer S&M revolvers I don't know. Just be aware.

      Yes!! Always refer to as many sources as possible; start low and work your way up!! Not all revolvers can take the same pressures.

We'll prepared cases,Win. primers. 1/2" grps at 100 yds and 3/4" at 200 yds. And that's no BS. Out of an 18 1/2" barrel. It's all in the components being assembled. I have same rifle, best groups are always with 87 Sierra's & IMR 4895 although some success with 75 Hornady's & Varget, fairly consistent 1-1/2" groups with lower powered hunting scopes is what I consider excellent results. I have never achieved really good results with anything heavier. That also applies to my Sav's too. Your results shooting also indicate 5 shot groups are too much for that pencil barrel, it throwing last shot virtually every time, 3 shot is way to go. IMHO anyway!

    • @CloningersGarage
      @CloningersGarage 2 місяці тому

      That's what everyone tells me. The bedding is fine and the scope is not loose. It appears that the barrels on some of these old Ruger M77 Ultralight rifles are not very good. I am just going to knock this up to a poor barrel and move on. Maybe I will replace the barrel in the future. It still works okay within 100 yds, which is all I ever used it for; many years ago. If I want something for longer range I will use one of my other rifles. Thank you for commenting and please come back for more content in the future!! 🙂

    I have one. Since I am in Croatia it was a no brainer since the rifle is made here and if things go sideways parts won't be a problem. Another thing that convinced me was the short stroke piston and the gas setting for suppressors. No mucking about with adjustable gas blocks, buffer tubes or even bolt carriers. Just turn the knob and stick a can on it. I used to have an M&P15 sport 2. Lovely rifle. Sold it after getting this. I'm a minimalist and don't like having too many things to worry about. I do miss the mil spec trigger though. Maybe it's best that I have never shot a nice after market trigger.

    Is 16" barrel with 357 enough for a deer rifle?

    • @russellkeeling4387
      @russellkeeling4387 2 дні тому

      Depends where you hunt. The firearm will have enough energy to harvest a deer but the law may not allow you to use it. In Colorado in order to hunt big game the rifle must produce 1000 foot pounds of energy at 100 yards as specified by the manufacturer and .357 does not comply.

    Your issue is the rifle has a wilson barrel which were hit or miss in the rugers as well as the ultralights pencil weight barrel heats up quick, try cutting a small piece of index card and placing it between the barrel and the black fore end tip, this will add a little fore end pressure and help with harmonics, it may help it worked for mine, make sure your action is tightened down into the stock as well, my best luck for accuracy has been 117gr hornady sst or interlock over a max charge of h4350, velocity will be low in comparison to 87gr but still a great 150yd hunting load. Its worth a try for you as its worked for me but all barrels will be different, good luck and hope this might help.

    The pipe comes 10 feet long. I cut it down to 5'6", so that with 18" in the ground it is 4 feet tall. This way it is easy to get to in order to refill the feeder. This 4' height has proven to be good from several other feeders like this that we have built over the years. I also did not glue the top to the pipe because experience has shown that over the years the board will deteriorate from the weather and the birds pecking it. If I had glued, it it would be not be possible to take off the top and just replace the board, while reusing the toilet flange and the actual bird feeder. If you have any questions, please comment below. Have a great day and God bless the USA!!

      I love my Lil Dandy powder measures. I've tested the consistency of the throws while using it a few different ways. The most consistent is mounting it in a powder measure stand secured on a solid surface. But for plinking ammo, handheld is very fast. I'll even mount it on a turret press from time to time. I have 25 rotors. I store them in a 12 ga shotshell ammo box from MTM. Good vid! 😊
