Mental stimulation and exercise are of the utmost importance for adult members of a species as intelligent and prone to obesity as Varanus exanthematicus. Here are some ways to determine if your Savannah Monitor is obese! ua-cam.com/video/CBC3WNGdy68/v-deo.html
Is your Savannah Monitor Obese?
Переглядів 1,4 тис.5 років тому
Captive Savannah monitor weights are a commonly discussed issue but appropriate information on what “healthy” looks like can be hard to find. Wild Savannah Monitors are typically between 1-5% body fat but that figure is not useful to casual keepers unless they are able to measure their pet’s body fat percentage and compare. In this video we highlight a couple of simple ways to determine whether...
Monitor Lizard Trust Gaining Process + The pre-trust gaining period
Переглядів 1,5 тис.5 років тому
Being a Star Wars fan, I sort of did this series backwards. A lot of new owners are excited to gain the trust of their new monitor lizards. But care must be taken to allow proper time for new specimens to acclimate as they will come to trust you on their own schedules, not yours. Enjoy! 3 Reasons why your Savannah Monitor Should NOT Live in a tank + Feeding Highlight
Переглядів 14 тис.5 років тому
Tanks/aquariums are sub-par set ups for Savannah Monitors and a few key reasons are detailed above. Also, we are aware that our feeding highlight may suggest that we feed a rodent heavy diet. While 90% of our monitor’s diet is invertebrates, we tend to record whole prey feedings more often that invertebrate feedings since the former are more of a “special occasion”.
Abandoned Savannah Monitor in Florida

The process of catching and re-homing a Savannah Monitor that was released in central Florida. Very disturbing to see an owner that released this poor guy but we’re happy to have him in a great home now... Plus dealing with a wanna-be scammer! Gotta stay on your toes when re-homing valuable exotic animals. Some people are just out here to make a buck.

How often should I feed my female ball python?
Mine would come right up to me and climb my leg.
Awesome video, i also recommend giving your monitor a bowl of food, and rubbing it while its too busy eating. I could pick up my 6 inch monitor by the tail and make him do a handstand as long as his mouth could still reach the food
Good content brother.
My plan if my future snake doesn't want to eat its frozen thawed rodent one day is to give the rodent to my indoor cats. Rodents are one of cats' natural prey items and my younger cat Keplar ate a mouse that got on the house (despite having never seen one before in his life!) so I think that it'll work okay!❤
I like this guy
I am getting one soon her name will be Bayzie Lue
Is there any way to get African soft furred to stop biting you every time I put my hand in their enclosure?
Dubia roaches are easily the best, and its easy to breed them yourself, if you have a baby savanah monitor you should plan ahead an start your bug colonies so when theyre big its not costing you an arm and a leg to feed them. Dubias & superworms, are daft easy to do. My savanah gets egg an rat only now and then, diet should be more than 80% bugs, fatty liver issues is what causes these eating machines issues.
Great video
Great information I just started with mine
Great video are you using pine pellets and dust for the small
Can you feed them dog food? I currently serve my Halmahera Merrick dog food as well as vitamin supplements and greens that get switched up. High quality dog food has meat and so does the Raw diet
Awe she is so cute 🤣 her little face lying there so squidgy 🤗🤗🤗😊

Can I put brown mulch in a asian water Monitors cage
Great advice
I’ve recently got a savanna monitor a little over two months ago- first week or so had issues getting him to eat- tried the recommended scrambled eggs and nothing- no crickets, Dubia, super worms, nothing- then I made a hard boiled egg and finally success eating constantly and consistently - now that the winter months are here he has stopped eating all together no mice, dubia, crickets, super worms, nothing- he’s not that big and have done research when he’s this young he should want to eat all the time or, at least be eating regularly- temps at 90° or so- two water dishes large enough to dip in, a heating pad and heat lamp- been playing around with hide sizes- any help would be appreciated- Tia
A reptile vet caution me on feeding exoskeleton creatures in abundance saying they couldn't break down properly....my savannah turns its nose at bugs. Just ground turkey, chicken, salmon, fish, with vitamins and calcium2-3 times a week. Still learning. Thanks so much.
I’ve only had my savannah monitor for about 8 months, I did tons and tons of research before getting him. After I got him I realized there’s so many people that have no clue what they’re doing. It’s pretty sad tbh.
Nothing belongs in an aquarium
My gf just said I'm a complete idiot. The gf and I were watching monitor videos together, when we seen the thumbnail for this vid says "Tanks kill Savanah Monitors". I immediately blurted out "well no sh*t, even a elephant would be killed if it was run over by tank and/or shot by it". Somehow I totally forgot that aquarium tanks existed even though I have a saltwater literally 5ft away from us.
Почему эти мыши каждую ночь засыпают свою поилку с водой древесным наполнителем из клетки?
Man you need to come back
The people of ghana see them everyday and they see humans everyday you should look it up, great video tho
Yo striker! Guess who's watching your old videos for preparation for a Savana
Quiet as shit.
I couldn’t afford to buy a commercially available 4x2 for my Sav, so I just built one. He’s been happy as a clam and I’m stockpiling the materials for the 8x4.
Thanks man. Super useful
Finally a useful care video
Love this info!!!
Mine is just pure evil 😈 😂😂 lol
Dope video. The knowledge is much appreciated. Luckily our savanna has been an angel to me. She bites and shits on my fiancee but loves me. She just crawls right up on my arm and falls asleep lolzzz. The trust gaining couldn't have gone easier really.
Thanks for the advice man I’ve had my guy not even two weeks but he’s feeding from tongs and he’s fairly happy me sat next to his viv 👌
Bad volu
I'm sorry...I just dont agree...respectfully ofcourse...I raised both of my savvies in a 20 gallon long till they were a year and now they have costume enclosures...but they are healthy....I have never had an issue with tanks...in fact my youngest one around 2 now...would get stressed out in enclosures as a baby I put him in bigger spaces and he wouldn't eat and was always stressed...one day a guy told me take him out of that and put him in a 20 gallon until he about a year old...I put him in and he trived..ate good...was very active and was very comfortable In That tank...now they are in 4 foot by 6 foot enclosures..but was just saying..
im hoping mine calms a little after trying this it tail whips a lot but as soon as i put crickets in there it runs around to eat
My savannah monitor is about almost 2 years old and he is still alive
hi i am getting one tomorrow
Can you provide some sources or videos on how to care for them because i've had mine for 3 weeks that hasn't been eating. And i know what im getting into, but i want to make sure it eats. I have already taken it to the vet and they didn't know what to do.
My baby savannah (3 months old) hasn't eaten for about 3 weeks now. What do i need to do? basking 110-130. ambient 85-90. cool 75-80. Substrate repti bark 5 in deep (used to be cypress mulch and coconut fiber but was told those could be toxic to it and other reptiles) feed it crickets, dubias, meal worms, even 1 mouse, premium dog food and tried dusting w/calcium and also syringe feeding. Refuses every food i've tried. in a 40 gallon tank rn, getting a larger one (i know it should not be in a tank, I have towels wrapped around it at all times to help it feel secure, my new enclosure is an Animal Plastics enclosure that will be much larger). it has 4 hides and a water dish changed every other day with spring water. It is shedding. It has become very lethargic and is usually in its favorite hide all day. I put socks of mine in for learning my scent. I don't handle it unless syringe feeding ( done that 3 times now.) I don't know what to do. Can anyone help me?
ply wood is poisonous for reptiles
You're right that is not a dog but I do not believe that they don't show affection they do show emotions you just got to look for them
Do you use the mouse size or the rat size cages? I see both sizes on the reptile basics site.
Thanks for touching on feeding frequency and weight.
💖😁🦎
Awesome video...great content.
I'm gonna build a tank my 1 and a half year old savannah which I just rehomed from somebody he live a 40 gallon tank temporarily but I'm gonna build a tank so until I start building we are trying to start trust gaining hes been with me now 2 weeks
Mine is about to be a year old and I keep him in a 75 gallon tank with live plants, half dirt half soil, water it every day, keep the lights on one side only and the water bowl on the other by the plants, he loves his enclosure, lots of places to hide and a beautiful petrified piece of wood, and it’s an open TOP, but I water it every day and he is very healthy so are my plants 👍
As far as I know they don't have the same heavy smell like mice and rats and are therefore easier to house.
