Norfolk & Western 1218, Detroit to Fort Wayne, 1990
Saturday, July 14, 1990. Good times on the old Wabash! A photo runby in Montpelier, Ohio and video taken the next morning of the Sunday trip. This was shot by my dad and, yes, I'm the annoying little kid.
For the curious, that's the Grand Trunk (née DT&I) diamond she's banging across as she leaves town Sunday morning.

Arriving upon the sunny shore of Mackinac Island for the 19-ought-five Professional Base Ball Tournament, the Dandy-Fied City-Slicker took his noon meal at the Grand Hotel's dining room. To aid his digestion, he took a constitutional to the Sugar Loaf. Wacky hi-jinks ensue!

A good day's chasing, if I do say so myself! I chased it all the way from Cadillac to Alma on the return trip, and got some neat night video!

I humbly submit a short montage of the videos I took from various vestibules on the train. I had an amazing time, the crew was wonderful! Sorry about all the wind noise but there's not much too do about it. There's some nice whistle work and a little bit of stack talk in here, although 4449 wasn't exactly working too hard. It's not like she was dragging 20 loaded Pullmans over Donner or anythin...

Rick Porcello gets warmed up before a start against the Yankees at Comerica Park in Detroit. Didn't help much, the Tigers lost 8-6 and Porcello took the loss.
great awesome video and catches of this doubleheader excursion with these to steamers nice whistle action too Great to here NKP 765 Scary whistle as well
This is just 1991 NRHS Convention 18 years later
Whoops I dropped the camera
I just love trains
No, I'm quite sure I did.
@lolz976 no thats actually the whistle from the 700, the only reason it sounds different was because of the camera footage
@Kleman09 but can 765 operating further than 2020?
@PereMarquette1223 any video of 1225 in 1988-90 and 92-98?
I was in the silver car St. Paul Pass, it was one cool ride.
Four years. If work goes ahead of schedual then 3 and a half years. But Im shure they want to make her as close to new as possible so my guess is really 4 and a half to five years.
@Kleman09 how long will 1225 be out 15 years?
@Strasburg1991 763 will wear whatever whistle Jerry feels like she should wear. however, it is more than likely that she will wear her Nathan 6 chime she had back in service.
To pianomanmaestro the Pere Marquette 1225 mostly stays in Michigan so you will probably never see it in Arkanas. The 1225 is also down for its 4 year rebuild to comply with FRA's standards so it wont be ridding the rails again unitll 2014
what whistle will 763 wear when she returns to operation?
is that 1225's whistle on 765? if it is then its AWESOME!!
That's 765s whistle
Where is this?
@pianomanmaestro Hey thanks! I'm not expert, but I doubt either of them would ever get down there. 1225 is mostly captive in Michigan, they have a really good relationship with the shortline this trip was operated over. 765 is in Fort Wayne, Indiana and I know they're always working to get it in tip-top shape for mainline trips. If either of them ever got down there, it'd be her. But UP only allows UP engines, so it's kinda doubtful. :(
Cool Cool! There awesome looking! Do they ever run down south twords Arkansas????? Man they need to bring them through Little Rock they would attract a ton of people the only steamer that comes through is the UP Challenger and The 844 but there oil not coal like those puppys! BY the way nice video!
@pianomanmaestro Yep, they both are.
Is she a coal burner?
I did not know there was another berkshire up and running! I thought the 1225 was the last! I am very pleased to see this!
Lil' windy there, chap. Also, that seemed REALLY close when the Pere Marquette passed you. I was on the other side of the tacks when you pulled out of Michigan City, and I got a scare when she blew her whistle at 2:32. (Whatch my video)
cant the SRI restore PM 1223
I was on the train too. Nice video!
This is 110 MPH terratory.
