The spy thriller may be coming to an end, now it's more relevant now than ever... Homeland deserves a life after Carrie, and here's why. The show started with a very specific premise, loosely adapted from the Israeli Prisoners of War series: Carrie, an obstinate CIA agent with bipolar disorder, engages in a relationship with American Marine Nicholas Brody, a newly released prisoner of war who may have been brainwashed by al-Qaeda. The showrunner Alex Gansa's series told new stories reflecting the geopolitical situation off-screen: the post-2013 show has been all about contemporary America and its relationship with the rest of the world. The series exploded its original format (no pun intended) and has since evolved to become a mirror in our times, although one that is bigger than life. And it has become a more substantial and more interesting drama since it abandoned some of the more familiar tropes of espionage and began to plunge into the seriously obscure world of government policy and international relations. So to end Homeland at a time when real-world politics is becoming increasingly unpredictable and volatile seems short-sighted. There is an opportunity now to tell exciting and complex stories about an America that is seriously divided, from the man on the street to the highest reaches of the government. The problem, of course, is that characters like Carrie, Brody, Saul and Quinn are over. Now is this really a breaker? Today's Homeland looks and feels very little like the show that first hit our screens in 2011, with not only a radically altered premise, but also an almost entirely different cast. Undoubtedly, the veteran of the Danes series is brilliant in Homeland, as are Mandy Patinkin as her conflicting mentor Saul Berenson as well as Damian Lewis as the marine complex Nicholas Brody and agent Peter Quinn (Rupert Friend). Losing Carrie and/or Saul would have a significant impact, now arguably no more than losing Brody, or later Rupert Friend as the troubled CIA black ops Peter Quinn (two characters really so loved by fans). Losing these key characters (Brody and Quinn) was a huge blow to Homeland, luckily the show resisted, changing and growing in the sequence. The same would happen with any match in the squad, even Carrie's. Homeland reinvented itself before and could do it again. Now we know how Gansa and his team of writers have been plotting the show's conclusion since at least 2017, chances are we won't see the TV show explore a new format without actors Danes and Patinkin at the forefront. This does not mean that the show could not go on without either or both. Because, if nothing else, this difficult period in the history of America offers opportunities for cinema and TV - and especially political-minded programs like Homeland - to deliver challenging and provocative stories. That’s why Homeland should do a 9th season without Claire Danes as Carrie We can say that Brody was one of the best-built characters in history - alongside Carrie, Saul and Quinn. It would be possible to clarify the following doubts: - Would you like to see Homeland reveal how the CIA explained Brody in Iran and his death to the American press? - Clearly, Javadi's ability to receive credit for Brody's capture helped his cause in Iran, but did the US government reveal Brody's role in Akbari's murder? - Was your name cleared for the CIA attack? I'd love to know what you think. - Another loose thread: Paul Franklin and the murder of the "real" CIA bomber. He ended up doing that scene ... why ?? Carrie was publicly humiliated, beaten, doped, shot and put her life on the line countless times without hesitation, just to make others see Brody as she saw him ... and she succeeded. Abu Nazir, the CIA, Jessica and the show's own audience, no one came close to seeing Brody with the clarity Carrie has always seen. Carrie has always read Brody like no one else. Ah, Carrie's dialogue with Javadi was incredible, it will be one of the most memorable moments in the series, without a doubt! “And what you wanted, which was for everyone to see what you see in him. That happened. Everyone sees it through your eyes now ... ” - How did Carrie see Brody? and how did the US come to see this? It's the world?
